Should Naruto have Become A Chunin?

Me honestly? I believe he should have. After the return of Tsunade he was quite easily at the level needed for most Chunin to battle at, which is relevant because that was when the promotions took place. With the Rasengan and Toad Summoning contract, I doubt many Chunin ninja could stand up to a Rasengan to the face or the summoning of Gamabunta, Gamahiro or Gamaken.

Shikamaru, I honestly don't think deserved the Chunin promotion. I mean, his strategy was great against Temari and he basically held off 15 oto nin long enough for his comrades to escape. But realistically, his chakra reserves at this point were pathetic. And he only had 1 Jutsu when he got promoted outside of the academy 3.

Naruto may not have played it very smart for the most part, but he did beat Neji and then go on to smash Gaara and then the Ichibi. I don't care what anybody says, the very fact that he fought off a freaking Bijuu - albeit the weakest one - should have been enough to get him a promotion to special Jonin. Yet Naruto doesn't even get to be a Chunin?

Did you even read this properly? The promotions took place once Tsunade arrived in the village. And Shikamaru got promoted because of his feats against Temari and holding off those oto nin. Naruto done way more during that time, yet didn't get promoted.

The examiners were Izumo and Kotetsu. And they were not there to see Shikamaru hold off the oto nin. Logically speaking, that means Asuma spoke up for Shikamaru.

Naruto's maturity isn't in question here. He performed feats worthy of a higher rank than Chunin and had shown quite a few good strategies.

Shikamaru got to be a Chunin from his mind alone. Yet he was pitifully weak in comparison with Naruto. If one says Naruto is too immature to be a Chunin, then they must also concede that Shikamaru is to weak to be one.

Think the whole point is so we can see his outfit, Kishi didn't want to draw him with the jounin jacket over is trademark orange outfit.

It also allows Kishi to insert comedy, such as the other characters poking fun at him for it, everyone knows he's surpassed all ranks now XD.

I'm pretty sure that there was mention of him holding off the 15 oto shinobi. But even then, if it was just taking into the account the results of the exams. Shikamaru still shouldn't have gotten promoted. He used his jutsu like twice, and then gave up after holding Temari for like a minute. If his chakra reserves were really that pitiful, then he would never have survived out on missions as a chunin.
