I know his genjutsu is top notch that much is obvious. We also know that itachi looked up to him. And at that point in the manga he was stronger than itachi because he had MS which itachi did not. I'm not calling him weak. I'm just not that impressed with what is said about him in the manga. Besides KA and his branch genjutsus.

Kabuto wanted to revive him - Kabuto only revives powerful ninja...
The MS powers were more than likely related to the users desires and power...
Itachi considered him his superior...
