Just thought i should bring up the fact that Shino is way better than Shikamaru. Like During the Three Tails arc when he battled guren so he could hopefully get one to survive and have resistance against her crystal style jutsu. Then he told the rest of his squadran to go ahead because they woull not expect antoher person while he stood behind and made a swarm of crystal style resistant bugs. He is definatly as smart as shikamaru and if anything he is more powerful he just is not showcased as much.

He is better plus bugs in your body to many bugs for shikamaru to handle they both are thinker too. So Shikamaru out thinking him like he does to most people won't work.

Shino has been consistantly awesome, in the chunnin exams he makes short work his opponents and takes on kankuro as the village is attacked. He certainly doesnt get as much as credit as he deserves, but i must say that shikamaru is one of the top ninjas in the entire leaf, and he is certainly the best strategist outside of his father and possibly kakashi.

I Wouldn't say that he "as smart as Shikamaru" but Shino Is Ownage I would say he is always underestimated and is prob like the 4 or 5 strongest out his peers

Yeah he is better, if they battled and Shikamaru somehow caught him by the shadow, Shino's bugs would tear him apart.

Yeah in a battle, Shika will surely lost but hey we CANNOT PREDICT a Shika battle as who knows what strategy, he might elaborate to counteract...
All-i all, Shikamaru is a better character in terms of awesomeness and strategies...Shino could beat him, surely, but it's not certain and secondly, it'll be unfair to compare Shikamaru on the battle frontline level as that's not his place...
I dont mean to say shikamaru sucks (because he is one of my favs) but shino is also another strtagist plus if shino wanted to he could intentianaly get one of his insects caught in the shadow possesion jutsu breed it so they are immune and put them in his body so they can dispell the jutsu if shikamaru tried it, and there is the battle because being immune to shikamarus shadow jutsu is almost like being immune to shikamaru.

But in truth Shino is known to be a 1vs1 fighter. Its even said in the fight he loves fighting.
Shika is a team fighter.
He would win if they were giving orders to people. Shino doesn't have the leadership personality. He is more anti-social.

Shikamaru in terms of strength is probably the weakest out of all their age groups, in a 1on1 Shikamaru is weak. but out of all of them he is brilliant. nobody is matching his intelligence, not Kakashi, and hes even passinghis dad.
Shino has the advantage in a 1on1 though. Shino has proved to be a great tactitian himself and if we compared jutsus Shino's bugs are way better than Shikamarus shadow possesions. the best Shikamaru could do is shadow strangle Shino but Shino still has his bugs that wuld swarm Shikamaru while Shikamaru has to stand still. Shikamaru would not be able to stand still and use his shadow jutsus.
only way Shikamaru could win if he had time in advance to prepare for the fight. then Shikamaru no doubt would be victorious cuz he'd set up some crazy ass booby traps and what not. and have himself cans of bug sprays even lol.
so all in all its a tie. the fight all depends.

He lead teams pretty well. He isn't the best because of his anti social nature but he has.
i think this fight would be a good fightshino has the 1 vs 1 fighting power and shika has his super brain. shika would prolly end up finding a way 2 neutralize shinos bugs. dont get me wrong shino is a tactition but he isnt on shikas level on that. shika could prolly out smart any of the "rookie nine" he just doesnt have the chakra 2 go for a long power battle. in the order of his generation he would have 2 be like 4th cuz of his brain and shino 5th.
