Mystogan walks through the open field up to his student. Shakujo in hand, he planted it into the ground with each step as he moved forwards, the rings clanging together as he moved to announce his presence. Standing only a few feet from the boy, Mystogan spoke.

So you have earned the right to utilize the Shakujō? How about you explain all you know of this object?

As he stands, Sasuke begins to hear the faint chime of Shakujo rings approaching from behind. At first, Sasuke does little more than turn his shoulders, but once he sees that it is the man he was supposed to meet, he turns around fully.

The Shakujo is a staff that has rings connected to a loop at the top. It originated in eastern oriental cultures by monks and other pacifist individuals, hence the rings. These people valued life to a point that they placed these rings at the top to warn insects of their impending path, so they don't get stepped on. One such peace loving man was the Sage of Six Paths. Later, the staff would become a weapon of sorts, through generations of monks whose ancestors ran into the great Sage, and began carrying a Shakujo to model him. Sasuke pauses with a discerned look on his face.

Although there isn't much information that I could find before coming here, so I feel as if I'm missing something.

What you know is sufficient. The Shakujō was a staff of prayer, being more of symbolic than of practical nature. It was indeed used to ward off life so it would not be unintentionally harmed by the peace-loving monks who carried them, and it was indeed perverted into a weapon of sorts, though its use in that regard was primarily defensive in nature.

One thing to know about the Shakujō is that there are three types - four, actually, but in meaning only. The first type carries four rings, representing the Four Nobel Truths - there is pain in an insatiable craving for this world, this craving keeps us bound to this world through reincarnation and so keeps us in pain, by stopping the craving with discipline nirvana can be achieved, and nirvana will set you free from the cycle of pain, death, and rebirth. The second and third types both carry six rings, but for different reasons. The second represents the Six Perfections - generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, contemplation, and wisdom - while the third represents the Six States of Existence - human, animal, preta, asura, naraka, and deva. The fourth type of Shakujō carries twelve rings, which represents the Twelvefold Chain of Cause and Effect, which I won't delve into.

This style of fighting, which has perverted the Shakujō from an instrument of peace and prayer beyond even its use as a defensive weapons and into a weapon to initiate combat, utilizes a six-ringed Shakujō. While twelve rings would be fine, this style can only handle six at a time, so six would be left resting during the style's usage. Additionally, the twelve-ringed Shakujō is meant to be carried by the Buddha, and not by the monks, so six rings is respectful for you to have. What they represent is up to you - my Shakujō constitutes the Six Perfections as a way to model my life after. It helps keep the demons in check.

Beneath the many layers he wore, Mystogan's face became very stern and serious, his grip on the Shakujo tightening before he reached into his robes to pull out a small scroll.

Please ask any questions you have before we begin. There are no stupid questions, so long as they relate to a Shakujō in general or to what is on the scroll in any way. Please bring up comments, concerns - anything you wish to say at this time. I want you involved as you learn these skills.

Mystogan extended the scroll towards the boy, waiting for him to take it.

Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu (The Nine Verses of Shakujo)
Type: NinKenjutsu
Background: The Sage of Six Paths was a wandering monk who carried with him a type of staff known as a Shakujo. The Shakujo was a staff, normally used as a walking stick, with one end consisting of a large circle with other rings placed on the circle. As the Sage was preaching his teachings of chakra and ninjutsu, a small group of students noticed that the Sage carried with him his Shakujo, and were inspired to follow the path of the great man who was teaching them. The group of students each fashioned their own Shakujo and practiced their usage of hand-to-hand combat along with the usage of chakra, as taught to them by the Sage of Six Paths. While training for combat with the Shakujo, one of the members of the group discovered that by channeling his chakra through the staff, he could manipulate the rings on the end of his staff. Utilizing this new discovery, the group of men developed a fighting style based upon utilizing their chakra with their Shakujo. They then taught this style of fighting to others, who passed it down for generations.
After the first generation of Shakujo users passed on, the second generation began to notice a pattern in the people they met on their travels. It appeared that each one of them used ranged applications of chakra, allowing them to fight at a distance so as to preserve their bodies and health. This second generation of Shakujo users, scared at the fact that all practitioners of chakra they had met were either soldiers or soldiers-in-training, left the way of the monk. No longer were they to be peaceful, but instead the Shakujo users went into practice to make their fighting style more versatile. It was the third generation who eventually discovered that chakra, in concentrated amounts, could cause a ring to simply move through the Shakujo to which it was bound, and cause the ring to float in the air around them. This gave birth to a new fighting style based upon a Shakujo's rings as controlled projectiles. As the generations advanced further and further, the style became more and more refined, slowly becoming the powerful style it is now.

Description on the Abilities and Inner Workings of the Style: Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu is a fighting style based around manipulating the rings of a Shakujo with chakra for both offensive and defensive purposes. The way the user manipulates their rings generally fall into one of two main categories:
Bound Style - The Bound Style of The Nine Verses of Shakujo is based around the use of a Shakujo's rings while bound to the Shakujo. The user uses the staff itself as a regular staff while using the rings on it to augment attacks. By manipulating the rings with their chakra, the user can create multiple desirable effects such as rotating the rings at speeds great enough to allow them to cut clean through solid objects, causing the rings to clasp down on a sword so as to prevent its movement, among other uses.
Ranged Style - The Ranged Style of The Nine Verses of Shakujo is slightly more unorthodox than the Bound Style, and was developed after the first generation of Shakujo users had passed away. This style allows the user to fill each of the rings of their Shakujo with their chakra, and then cause the rings to separate from the staff and to hover in their air of their own accord. The user's chakra is constantly being drawn into the rings as they float in order to keep them suspended in the air, and as such, each ring is capable of generating chakra seemingly from itself, while actually being the user's chakra sent to it through the air. The floating rings can then be manipulated by specific techniques to achieve effects such as deflecting projectiles, joining together to form a shield, and many other uses. Because of the users of this style being drawn towards power and being able to fight at distances rather than up close, the Ranged Style has been preferred over the Bound Style, and as such has been perfected with many more techniques designed for it than the counterpart.

While both forms of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu draw from the user's chakra reserve, the Ranged Style is more prominently ninjutsu-based, while the Bound Style is based off of the mechanics of kenjutsu.
Example Techniques:
(Saisho no Uta: Kaiten Burēdo) - First Verse: Rotating Blades
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user channels their chakra through their Shakujo, which causes the loose rings at the end of their staff to appear to "stand up", as if they were repelled by some force at the center of the ring which binds them to the staff. Each ring then begins to spin at high speeds, and as each ring spins the sheer speed the metal material gains appears to give it a sharp quality, allowing the spinning rings to easily cut through C-rank and below Wood Style techniques, and even more solid materials such as Earth Style and steel swords or Steel Style.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the owner of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Can only cut C-rank and below techniques and objects without chakra

(Saisan no Uta: Dansu Ringu) - Third Verse: Dancing Rings
Rank: C
Type: Offensive | Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 15 (-5 per turn)
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user channels their chakra through the rings of the Shakujo and causes the rings to separate from the main staff and float around themselves. The user can then manipulate the six rings in the air to deflect average weapons or to advance on the opponent and spin to cut them with the sharpness of an average sword. Each ring individually has no more strength than a freeform kunai, but they may be manipulated freely and can hang in the air as the user performs other techniques.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the owner of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Lasts 3 turns, or until the user calls the rings back to their Shakujo

(Saishū-Tekina Uta: Rengoku) - Final Verse: Purgatory
Rank: Forbidden
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 50
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user releases the rings of their Shakujo, which leave the main staff and fly through the air, each to a separate location in order to create a sort of "box" around the user and his opponent. Then, each ring will begin to spin and release the user's chakra from itself, the chakra being drawn to the four rings immediately adjacent to it (chakra will not travel from, say, the ring to the left relative the user, to the right relative the user) in order to form a barrier in the form of a black sphere of chakra around the user and his opponent. While inside the barrier, the only techniques which can be used are those which originate from the user; earth release techniques that manipulate the ground, water release techniques which require a water source, and wind release techniques which manipulate the wind in the atmosphere are a few examples of techniques which cannot be used within the barrier. The user may also manipulate the barrier to rotate or roll at their will, allowing the user to spin the barrier in order to shift either their own or their opponent's position (assuming their standing on the barrier's surface) in order to dodge to be hit by attacks. The sphere can move so fast that techniques which aren't large-scale can easily be avoided by simply adjusting the barrier's, and therefore the people standing on the surface of the barrier's, position.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the owner of the Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu style
~Must be a practitioner of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu for at least two months before learning the Final Verse
~Only lasts 2 turns
~The barrier can only be destroyed by a Forbidden-ranked technique shot at the barrier, meaning all other techniques are contained within the barrier, making wide-scale attacks dangerous for the user as well as the defender
~Can only be used one per battle
~When the barrier disappears, the Shakujo's rings shatter, making it impossible for the user to use Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu for the rest of the battle
You must be registered for see images
Additional effects and Restrictions: -Can passively control the rings while bound to the Shakujo, not floating, in free-form
-The Ranged Style of the Nine Verses of Shakujo is bound by techniques, making it impossible for the rings to separate from the Shakujo without a jutsu
-Must have mastered kenjutsu
-Must have at least begun Ninjutsu and mastered the Tree Climbing and Water Walking exercises for proper chakra control

Mystogan extended the scroll towards the boy, waiting for him to take it.

Sasuke takes everything that his Sensei says into account before budging an inch, and then he extends his left arm and takes the scroll, reading through it quickly. History told a lot, and if he wanted to master this art, it would be important. He winces once at the mention of the 12 ringed Shakujo, but immediately disregards the thought once he hears of its ties to Budah. Being very respective of his personal spiritual side, Sasuke recognizes when to abandon the strife for power over something greater than himself.

I have no questions yet, Sensei, but I will be sure to let you know if I do.

Sorry about that.

The first of the Nine Verses utilizes the rings as they are. Your chakra flows through them, exciting them and making the rings stand on-end. They spin, converting the energy of your chakra into angular momentum. The energy you provide the rings as they move allows the energy to be translated to objects it comes in contact with, the energy being destructive in nature and allowing your Shakujō to cut through a great many things. Monks will say it was created to symbolically represent cutting through one's tie to suffering, but it was truly created to turn this instrument of prayer into a viable weapon. It's concept is simple, if not dull, and exists primarily to allow one to wield a Shakujō in the stead of a sword, the longer handle and "sharper" end making it idea for keeping distance from and dispatching blade-users. Practice the technique, get a feel for concentrating your chakra within the Shakujō, and tell me all that you have learned and thought of on your own in regard to this technique.

As each ring spins the sheer speed the metal material gains appears to give it a sharp quality, allowing the spinning rings to easily cut through C-rank and below Wood Style techniques, and even more solid materials such as Earth Style and steel swords or Steel Style. Kenjutsu of any rank may be used with the "sharp", spinning rings, but if a section of the staff rather than the rings makes contact with something, obviously there will be no cutting power.

Taking the Shakujō into both hands in front of him, Sasuke begins to pump chakra into the staff. His chakra uses it as a medium to infiltrate the rings placed atop it, which stand on end and begin to spin rapidly. Sasuke then takes some rudimentary jabs and slashes to get a feel for the technique itself and start memorizing the chakra flow needed in order to sustain the technique. Ceasing his chakra flow, Sasuke begins his response.

I use my chakra to control these rings, making them spin very quickly. Due to its momentum and chakra, it develops a cutting power. Depending on how far up the staff I place my hands, I can control the range of the weapon,s something that swords and other cutting devices lack. Speaking of range, the length of the staff is longer than that of a sword, so in battle it would be possible to stay out of sword range while staying within Shakujō range. Also, the staff allows me to give nonlethal shots as well, if I were to choose the passive aggressive way in a situation.

Yo, I need to apologize. Midterms. @_@

If you were intent to use it only as a staff, making the rings rotate would not be necessary. But something to remember is that only the very end of your Shakujō can cut - the rest of it is blunt. Because of this, if your opponent closes distance on you, you lose a cutting edge and are left with a simple staff. The technique is best used when you can keep your opponent at a range you want them at - very close-combat isn't very good for Bound Style techniques.

The next technique is the first of the Ranged Style. By concentrating your chakra through the rings and the head of your Shakujō, you can cause the rings to temporarily merge with your Shakujō's head so that they can slip out and be free, floating around under the influence of your chakra. This technique taxes your chakra pool minimally and can only be sustained for a set amount of time (3 turns), but is very versatile in its use. While it's primary use is to send the rings out to deflect projectiles before the rings return to hover near the staff of your Shakujō, like a yo-yo, the rings may be manipulated any way you want. Need stepping stones to run on the air with? The rings can hold you up. Want to send them out to bombard your enemy? While not lining up with the inherent nature of a Shakujō, that is also a potential use. While focusing your chakra to specifically manipulate the rings you cannot perform other techniques, but if you channel your chakra elsewhere the rings will hover around your Shakujō, detached and ready to accept commands as soon as your resources are free to give them. So, same as before: perform the technique, which is important as the entirety of the Ranged Style techniques rely on this jutsu, and then explain to me all that you know and all that you believe you have pieced together on your own.

Sasuke listens carefully to what his teacher has to say before moving at all. Once he finished, Sasuke grabs up his Shakujo once more and begins fueling it with chakra. Once he has achieved the effects as before and has the rings standing on end, he manipulates the items as one and causes them to separate from one another. Now having the rings floating lazily around the end of his staff, Sasuke begins to will them in a number of patterns and shapes to get a grasp of what this technique was capable of. Then to take things further, he lines them up in front of him, first at shine level, then increasing the same distance up while increasing the distance out by the same amount, effectively creating a started platform of the rings. He quickly trots up the rings, reaching a very high point in the air before depending to ground level once more, and turning to address his teacher.

I rather like this technique, it is very versatile. It can be used very effectively for defensive reasons, including deflecting ninja tools, evading techniques, or by impeding their eye sight. It can be used offensively by going for direct attacks, augmenting taijutsu, or distracting while other things are in the works. It opens my game up to the ranged style, if the rings aren't already separated . Not to mention the slew of other things that can be done that I didn't specifically mention. The overall strength of the individual rings isn't great, but this more supplementary anyway, so that works fine.

The Fourth Verse is a very simple technique. After separating the rings to initiate Ranged Style, which can either be done by this technique or by using a different technique before it, arrange the rings in a hexagon before you. From there, you will need to focus your chakra through each ring and cause it to "leak out" towards the center of your hexagon. The chakra will meld together and form a shield slightly taller than you yourself. This shield may be directed with the staff of your Shakujō, allowing you to re-position it and even adjust its angle to form a platform, allowing you a method of floating through the air easily. There really isn't much to say about it, and I hope by now you understand how I wish you to demonstrate that you understand the technique.

Description: The user, after either having their rings already released from the Shakujo for a separate technique, or by releasing them specifically for this technique, will have each ring align itself in a hexagonal formation in front of them. The rings will then release chakra from themselves towards the other rings, creating a thin barrier of condensed chakra with advanced enough shape manipulation that the barrier can withstand up to A-rank attacks. The barrier may be adjusted as the user wishes, gesturing with the staff portion of their Shakujo where the rings, and by extension the barrier, will move, and can even be used to lift the user into the air and hover so long as they wish. The barrier's diameter is wider than the user's height by only a few inches.

Yeah, I understand. Sasuke says nodding in affirmation and taking his staff into his dominant left hand. With the rings having already been separated through his last demonstration, all he has to do is manipulate them once more through his chakra for the desired effect. Controlling the rings, Sasuke forms them into a hexagon shape in front of his person, while pouring more chakra into the individual rings. All at once, the chakra would begin leaking out toward the center between the rings, forming a layer of slightly visible chakra. Taking this barrier in his control, Sasuke turns and flips it to gain a grasp of his total control. He then turns it completely horizontal, and steps onto it like a platform. Moving about a bit Sasuke steps off safely, and allows the rings to return to his staff.

Another rather useful technique . I form a barrier that could be used for an assortment of reasons, but most notably defensive reasons. Whether that be blocking attacks or utilizing it as a platform to dodge the techniques. Overall it seems pretty useful, and really seems to fit the passifist nature of the style.

Excellent. The fifth verse is known as Saṃsāra, named after the idea of death and rebirth. You send forth your six rings so that they fly at your opponent. Then, plant the butt of your staff into the ground and grab whichever hand is holding the Shakujō shaft, using this motion as a unique type of handseal. Focus your chakra through the rings, and cause them to multiply. There are no "real" rings in this massive wall of barraging rings, as any six of the rings can be what remains at the end. This barrage moves forward and, in essence, "plows" through all in its path. In reference to the technique's name, the rings replicate themselves, meeting their "previous lives" and even becoming reborn should a few of the rings in this massive barrage become damaged or destroyed, allowing any undamaged rings to become the new "true" rings. That's really the majority of technique's powers, unless there's something you think you can see in it.

However, using this technique puts strain on the rings, meaning techniques of the style can't be used for a while afterwards. Just a little restriction on the rebirth of your rings.

Then the user will strike the ground with the Shakujo's staff and clap the fist holding their Shakujo with their free hand. After making the improvised handseal, the rings will multiply and create a large wall of thousands of rapidly rotating projectile rings flying towards the opponent. After the barrage of rings, all but six will disappear, and those six will fly back to the Shakujo, reconnecting and falling limp afterwards.

The Sixth Verse is named "Karma". Mystogan smirked beneath his scarf, twisting the butt of his Shakujō in the ground as he looked up at his student. I believe you're fairly familiar with this one. As part of the Ranged Style, you use the rings to encircle a person, the rings orbiting them quickly, ready to cut a person if they move out of line. Now, there are a few ways to use it. One way is to use the technique as your rings already nearby a target as the result of some other technique, or to send them straight from your Shakujō to your target. A third way to use it is to surround yourself with the rings, using them as a shield to protect yourself from large-scale techniques. Some things to know is that the rings conduct electricity, which means unfocused Raiton will flow throughout the sphere of influence they create, meaning if you can trick your target into using such techniques they would end up injuring themselves. Another thing of note, if you use Karma to protect yourself, the center of the sphere moves with the staff, allowing you to move about so long as you keep the staff with you, while others you may trap inside are rooted to one location. The rings move quickly, able to cut like most of the other techniques of this style, but that's not the most important part of the Sixth Verse. Once the rings have begun to orbit, the technique is self-sustaining, meaning that you can perform other techniques whilst this one continues. Very good if you wish to use it as a defense, but also extremely useful if you manage to trap an opponent inside.

Rank: A
Range: Short-Long
Type: Supplementary | Defensive | Offensive
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: The user, after having the rings of their Shakujo separated either from an earlier technique or specifically for this jutsu, will have their rings begin to spin at high speeds before sending them directly at their opponent. It would appear as though the rings had the goal of slicing the opponent once they got there because of the speed and direction they take, but this is not the case. Once they reach the opponent, they begin to orbit the person in an elliptical fashion. This can best be described by looking at how an electron orbits its nucleus. Because of the number of different rings orbiting, the opponent is essentially trapped in one location for moving would ensure a dismembered limb or two. After activation of the jutsu, the technique becomes self-sustaining, like the Rasengan, freeing the user to do as they wish. Because of the metallic nature of the rings, the technique is even more dangerous as it conducts lightning extremely well - so well, in fact, that unfocused lightning used by the one trapped in the technique will be conducted between the moving rings, interconnecting all of them and shocking the target (who is within the orbit of all the rings) to death.
This technique can also be used by the user around himself. If the Shakujo's staff is at the epicenter of the orbital paths of the rings, they will move with the Shakujo's movements, allowing the user to move without cutting himself. The high-speed movement of the rings allow them to defend against larger-scale solid assaults (the hand of the Stone Golem, for example) while it's useless against smaller or intangible attacks (a barrage of senbon or water/wind/fire attacks, for example), as well as being able to defend against close-combat fighting. However, this defensive property applies if used on an opponent as well, though the rings don't move with them.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Lasts for two (2) turns before the rings return to the Shakujo automatically

I believe I understand, Sensei, Sasuke says solemnly while gripping the staff of his Shakujō once more. Pumping chakra into the rings, Sasuke causes them to separate from the staff and begin flying toward a nearby tree. As they fly, Sasuke slams the butt end of the staff onto the ground while clapping the fist holding the staff with his free hand in order to manipulate his chakra into the rings, causing them to multiply rapidly until the six original rings are accompanied by leagues of like ones. This barrage of rings would travel the short distance to the tree, completely destroying it in the process, leaving six rings behind, which then fly back to the staff of the Shakujō.

This technique is definitely a display of power. It turns the power of six into the power of a full assault, and after all of that, all disappear but six, which return to the staff where they fall limp once more. I'd like to see what would happen if you managed to place the six that would be left over in your opponent's blind spot, in a spot that places my opponent between the rings and the staff, so that upon return of the rings, the opponent would be attacked again.

Moving on to the next technique, Sasuke has a weird sense of deja vu, almost as if he's heard parts of this somewhere before. Shaking the feeling off, Sasuke then prepares himself to use the Shakujō once more, hoping he'd allowed himself and staff enough time to recover from the last technique. He pumps more chakra into the system and separates the rings once more. Controlling them with great precision, Sasuke begins to make the rings circle around himself forming a protective barrier of sorts. After it forms, Sasuke begins to carefully walk forward, testing the means of mobility. Seeing that he is safe, he begins to test it more, this time while sprinting in complex patterns. Satisfied of his control, Sasuke releases the technique, allowing the rings to return to the staff once more.

This is a very versatile technique. It could be equally used for offense or defense, which is rare to see. Obviously it would be harder to use on your opponent, but that doesn't mean that the offensive capabilities are limited. It's intricate relationship with lightning paves the way for even more combos and uses. Great technique overall.

The Seventh Verse is named Naraka, after the realm a being is born into to be purified of the karma from their past life. Specifically, the technique mimicked one of the Eight Hot Narakas, as you send your rings into the sky and call a rain of fire from the into the field around you. To ensure your own safety, position the rings so that the patch of ground around you (short-range) will be unaffected. It's simple enough, though the focus of your Latin chakra restricts your technique usage while the fires rain.

Next, the Eighth Verse: Kāma-Dhātu, or Desire Realm. With this technique, each ring rotates about an axis different than you have been so far (imagine spinning a ring or coin on a table). At the same time, you let your chakra surround and saturate each ring, the rotation causing the chakra to 'slip off' and create a sphere, turning each ring into a small, flying Rasengan. If all of the chakra in a ring is used up, it will return, but if all of the chakra is not used up when attacking or defending, you can channel more chakra to said ring to rejuvenate it. There are a few other nuances which become apparent when using the technique, as well.

The Nineth Verse, Dukkha, is suffering. It is the pain and uncomfortableness of the mundane life. With you Shakujo, this is represented by one ring carrying the responsibilities of the others, channelling the chakra that is usually used for all six into one. This ring is the directed by your staff and moves about in fluid, precise manners. If you wish, an elemental nature may be imbued into the ring, the element representing you the user, as the original intention was.

(Sainana no Uta: Jigoku) Seventh Verse: Naraka
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Mid-Long
Chakra Cost: 30 (-5 per turn)
Damage Points: 60
Description: The user will release the rings from their Shakujo (or manipulate them further if they're already released), and will send the rings into the sky. From there, the rings will all begin to spin as the user channels his Katon chakra into the rings. As the rings spin, they will generate a multitude of small fireballs, about the size of a ping-pong ball, which will fly in every direction and rain down on the ground. Due to the spacing of the rings and the range of the fireballs from each ring, the only safe place is a meter radius circle around the Shakujo's staff, which will cause the floating rings to move with it (meaning if the user, holding the staff, walks forwards, the rings above will move so that the user remains safe). When the technique ends, the rings will remain in the air for a second after they finish spewing flames before returning to the Shakujo.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Can only be used twice per battle
~Requires two turn minimum in between usages
~Lasts 3 turns, or until canceled
~The user can only use Katon and chakraless techniques while active

(Saihachi no Uta: Kāma-Dhātu) Eighth Verse: Desire Realm
Rank: S
Type: Offensive | Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 40 (-5 per sphere per turn) (-20 per sphere regeneration)
Damage Points: 80
Description: The user, after having the rings of their Shakujo separated either from an earlier technique or specifically for this jutsu, will have their rings begin to spin, but differently than normal. Normally, the rings spin along their own circular formation, which would make the ring appear to not be moving at all if one doesn't look closely. This is normally done to make the edges hot with friction and cause it to gain a type of cutting quality. The Kāma-Dhātu has the rings spin on a different axis so quickly that it almost looks like they've formed into small spheres instead of being simply rings from the blurring effect from the high-speed rotation (as if you took a ring or coin and spun it on its side on a table top) [see video below for further explanation]. As the rings spin, the users chakra is sent out to each ring equally and creates a field of chakra around the outside of each ring. As the rings spin, they move at a speed so fast that the chakra cannot cling to the physical being of the ring effectively, which creates a drag-like effect where the chakra from each ring is curved to such a high degree that the other end of the ring connects with the chakra "flowing" from the opposite end, creating a true sphere of chakra surrounding the spinning rings. Each sphere may then be controlled individually with strength granted by the constantly-rotating spheres of chakra equal to a B-rank technique of any element. When these spheres are damaged by C-rank and below techniques, the user may send more chakra to the damaged sphere to regenerate it and raise its strength back up to B-rank.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Can only be used twice per battle
~Must wait a three turn gap between uses
~Rings may return to the Shakujo at any time. Rings are forced to return if damaged by a B-rank technique. If they are damaged by an A-rank or above technique, the user must physically collect the ring as it can't "fly" back to the user being out of chakra
~Regeneration of spheres is a choice of the user's and counts as a move of their turn . Returning to the Shakujo staff if damaged by a C-rank or under technique (including no damage) is also a choice but doesn't count as a move. Rings which are returned to the staff or are damaged by A-rank and above techniques no longer count to the "-5 per sphere per turn" chakra cost

(Saikyū no Uta: Ku) Ninth Verse: Dukkha
Rank: S
Type: Offensive | Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 40
Damage Points: 80
Description: The user, either by manipulating his rings as they are floating or by separating them from his staff first, will cause the six rings to touch together, transferring all of their chakra to a single ring. This ring will then emit a chakra coating over itself as it spins, the chakra acting to help protect and strengthen the ring. The single ring, carrying the chakra of the other five, will then be able to move faster than an average kunai with as much precision as the user wishes, controlling it's direction with the end of their Shakujo. The ring may pierce through up to A-rank techniques without so much as losing momentum due to its small size, high rotation speed, and powerful protective chakra coating, allowing it to pierce through a great deal of defenses to pierce an opponent's body. Even if the opponent dodges, the user can control the direction of the ring with their empty Shakujo. The user may also, as all the chakra is transferred to a single ring, choose to imbue said ring with an elemental nature, giving it the strengths and weaknesses of said nature, as well as basic effects of the element on contact with an opponent (burning with fire, cutting with wind, numbing with lightning, etc.). When the technique has ended, the user must touch each of the fallen rings with their Shakujo to recollect them, as they have lost their chakra.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Can only be used once per battle
~The user cannot use any other jutsu while controlling the rings.
~If elemental natures are imbued, then jutsu above S rank for that element cannot be used next turn.
~No Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu techniques may be used for two turns after this technique's usage

So yeah I forgot all about this until I went to update my Trunks bio, my bad man.

Holding the staff in his left hand, Trunks channels his chakra into the weapon to release the rings sitting at the top. At his will, the rings would break from the ring holding them and spread evenly through the air above Trunks, fully surrounding him in a short range ring. Fueling the rings with his fire chakra, Trunks would then have the rings begin spinning violently, building heat as they spin. One by one, small orbs of fire would begin popping out of each ring, heading any and every direction. Before the display was finished, the land before them had become scarred and scorched from the flames. As the last of the fire plops on the ground and smolders, the rings would hang in the air a moment before returning to the Shakujo.

This would be a good technique to use if you were to find yourself surrounded, or plagued with an enemy that can escape your immediate senses. It attacks everywhere simultaneously, so as long as they around, they'll have to deal with it before they can deal with me. The safety of movement makes this an awesome technique, because I can make the safe/danger zone wherever is ideal, and move them if need be without harming myself with my own jutsu. The worrisome part is the fact that the only safe place is directly beside me, meaning that is where my opponent could look to for shelter.

Then Trunks would take the Shakujo and extend it toward a tree not far off from their location. The rings would burst from the staff in a fluid motion, and then begin to spin on the opposite axis than normal, eventually creating the illusion of a sphere. Now adding chakra to the rings, Trunks notices how the high velocity of the spin causes the chakra to slip off of the rings, creating true spheres of chakra. Manipulating them in the air, Trunks gets a feel for how they were going to act and maneuver due to their different shape and consistency that other techniques. Once he has a feel for control, he directs all of the rings toward a large tree at once, causing it to splinter and burst. Trunks then recalls his rings and begins speaking.

This is a very nice technique indeed. The momentum of the rings is hardly hindered, and I still have full control over where they smh I and what they do. Unlike most of these techniques, this one gives blunt damage which is always a nice option to have. The option to recall or recharge the rings are nice options too, because then the spheres can become equal powered chess pieces that you can maneveur to your liking. Strength in numbers comes into mind here as well, because even though the spheres have moderate power individually, attacking all at once is a lot of moderate power to overcome.

Extending his Shakujo once more, Trunks attempts the last technique that his teacher spoke of by first placing his other hand on the staff and channeling his chakra into the rings. Once they have separated from the staff, Trunks would make them all touch a single ring, transferring all of their chakra upon doing so. Falling as they touch, the final ring remains the only ring in the air as the last one transfers its chakra, taking on a glow in the process. As before, Trunks would work with this jutsu flying around until he felt as if he had complete control over it. Looking over, Trunks sees a group of trees in the distance and sends the ring that way. The ring slices through several rows of trees without breaking momentum at all, traveling at incredible speeds. Once Trunks understands the inner workings and destructive nature of the technique, he recalls his one energized ring and touches the rest with the tip of his staff, giving them enough chakra to return as well.

This technique has a lot of power and potential. It travels at speeds that most cannot catch with a kunai, with enough precision to shave someone after busting through their wall to do it. That is why it takes an incredible amount of concentration, to the point that I dont think I could perform another jutsu while this one was going on, even if I had the the ability. Which in turn would leave an opening for attack on my main body while I have this jutsu active. Shadow clones or summons could help with this problem though, so the point is moot unless I have dangerously low chakra. Overall, a grand technique that most would call formidable to say the least.

"Before we move onto the final verses, I just have a couple of comments to make about those last techniques, and one about the style in general. First, keep in mind your ability restriction while using Naraka - it's a thematic technique that on one hand is very nice, but on the other restricts the user maybe more than they'd like. Second, Kāma-Dhātu treats each ring-sphere as a B-rank technique, which means by drawing them together you can get A-rank power, but also A-rank "defense". You touch on their strength in numbers, but the true power is that when they take damage, the rings slowly lose power, and only become useless if they lose too much. By grouping rings together, you can distribute the damage each one takes to keep your rings dancing about the battlefield as you wish. The only issues come with realism - you'll never stop a 50 foot wall of flames with six small spheres that are essentially weak, flying Rasengans, regardless of rank. Just things to keep in mind.

Finally, a comment about the style, by combining it with the Manipulate Advancing Blades technique, you can levitate and manipulate your Ninja Tools, in this case being the rings, from anywhere on the field. This includes when your Shakujō no Kyū-Setsu techniques can no longer manipulate them, such as with Dukkha. You can't use the style with MAB, but you can recall the rings for yourself.

Now, finally, as the last thing before we move on... Think fast."

Mystogan pulled from his sleeve two kunai, tossing them directly towards his student without so much as a change in facial expression. It was so casual, as if something like this was as normal as asking a student to take a seat. The first kunai, which was released a fraction of a second before the other and so was closer to the boy, was aimed dead-center at the student's forehead. The other was set in position to skin his left ear, leaving at most an injury that would be no deeper than a paper cut, though considerably wider. The true purpose of this was to prevent dodging to the left for him. Settling back after throwing the weapons, Mystogan waited for the boy's reaction before moving on.

As the blades leave his teachers hand, Trunks is a bit surprised on two levels. First, he didn't expect his teacher to actually attack him. Another training maybe? Second, he expected his teacher to realize that as a fellow master of the medical arts, such a remidial attack should be well under Trunks abilities. Or was he counting on Trunks being overconfident and actually have something else up his sleeve? Either way, Trunks takes no chances and separates the rings of his Shakujo from the staff and prepares to intercept the weapons with the rings forming in front of him in a nearly casual pattern.

Sending two rings forward to meet the kunai, Trunks manipulates the angle of the rings so that the tip of each blade would scrape past the hole of the ring, yet catch on the ring of the handle. This would cause the first kunai to be flung just over his teachers head, due to returning its own momentum against itself with the shape of the ring, although miscalculated a bit due to Trunks' inexperience using the style. The second though, Trunks would accommodate for, turning the angle of the ring slightly to return the kunai at the teachers forehead, arguably close to the path of the first kunai Trunks faced, direct center of his forehead.

Description: The user channels their chakra through the rings of the Shakujo and causes the rings to separate from the main staff and float around the stationary ring which previously bound them. The user can then manipulate the six rings in the air to deflect average and basic chakra-infused weapons, the ring returning to the staff on its own afterwards. Each ring individually has no more strength than a freeform, chakra-infused kunai, but they may be manipulated freely and can hang in the air around the Shakujo as the user performs other techniques.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu
~Lasts 3 turns, or until the user calls the rings back to their Shakujo

Trunks allows the other rings to float around his staff lazily, ready for attack at any moment.

Did I pass that test, Sensei? Trunks would ask wondering if the return of force would be looked down upon by his teacher. By now, he should know the teachings that should be important, but realizing that he is susceptible to allowing his nature to show, Trunks hopes for the best.

As the kunai came towards Mystogan, he simply tapped it away with the metal head of his own Shakujō, the rings clanging together with soft 'tink' noises as the kunai lodged itself into the ground by his feet.

"It wasn't a test for ability," Mystogan began. "But for aptitude. There were a number of ways you could have responded, and a number of them would have disappointed me greatly. As you responded with your Shakujō, you made none of the disappointing choices. And how you responded has decided your next technique.

This is the Final Verse, Purgatory. It deviates mildly from the Buddhist traditions of the rest of the style, but it is the Tenth Verse of a style known as the Nine Verses of Shakujō. It also doesn't deviate too hard, as Buddhist tradition has a kind of purgatory, though it's commonly known as Naraka, which was covered in a previous Verse. No, the Final Verse takes its roots from other religions, where Purgatory is more of a state of existence where your soul is cut off from what you once were. A state between the material world and their afterlife, Purgatory is seen as a time of cleansing, where you are left with nothing but the memories of the word you just left, through death. You may exist there for some amount of time before passing on, perhaps being judged, perhaps achieving enlightenment, perhaps, in Buddhist tradition, after living out the lifespan set for you by your Karma. In any case, it is a dark void, a bubble trapping people between two worlds, which is reflected in our Final Verse."

Planting his Shakujō in the ground, Mystogan released the rings out to surround himself and his student. Once in position, the rings began to spin, releasing black chakra that connected with the chakra from the other rings, forming a spherical barrier surrounding the two of them. Inside the barrier was dark, having not a single light source for either of them to see.

Description: The user releases the rings of their Shakujo, which leave the main staff and fly through the air, each to a separate location in order to create a sort of "box" (more akin to a sphere or ellipse) around the user and his opponent. Because the sphere is comprised of the user's own, dense chakra, seals created by a foreign chakra (that of an opponent or ally), including those required to perform a summoning (ie. the ones that spread out from the hand), need to be of equal or greater potency to take effect, otherwise being "swallowed up" and diluted by the user's chakra. This is to further aid the purpose of the technique, which is to sever the user and the opponent from the environment, and any allies or other enemies nearby. Because the dense chakra also blocks light, it causes the interior of the sphere to be pitch-black, and such renders regular vision useless.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the owner of the Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu style

"Welcome to Purgatory. This is a barrier technique that isolates you and your opponent from everything else. There is no water here, nor any earth. If it is not something you can produce on your own, Purgatory essentially makes those techniques null and void. The barrier is comprised completely of your own chakra, which overpowers any seals or other techniques that take place on a floor or the ground. Aside from your own, of course, as your chakra can work with itself. As you can see, Purgatory even isolates you from the light of the sun, leaving you and your opponent to find alternate ways to locate each other.

There's also one more thing about Purgatory that you should know."

Slowly moving his arms out and taking a dedicated battle stance, Mystogan began to release a current of electricity around him. The electricity lit up the inside of Purgatory, allowing his student to see him, but also allowing the student to see the effects of the technique. The lightning would hit the black walls and then seemingly bounce off. The curved edges of the barrier were containing the technique, redirecting it as if there was never a chance to destroy the barrier. After a moment, the lightning died down and Purgatory returned to its darkened state.

"The walls contain wide-spread techniques. It's better demonstrated with larger jutsu, but that would be dangerous. I'm not here to kill you, so that small demonstration will need to suffice. This means if you release a 50-foot wall of flames, the entire power of that technique will be contained to the interior of Purgatory. Concentrating wide-spread attack can be good for you, but it can also work against you. Finally, a concentrated S-rank technique can break through the chakra, while you would need a wide-spread technique of Forbidden rank to achieve the same result. These walls are strong and made for containing spread-out power, but it's good for you to know their limits."

Holding his Shakujō high in the air, Mystogan ended the technique, the chakra slowly melting away before the rings quietly returned to their home. Then, he pointed the head of his Shakujō towards his student.

"Your turn."

As his teacher speaks, Trunks listens to every word carefully, trying to take in every detail. Just as his teacher finishes telling the meaning behind the technique and how it relates to the style, Trunks watches with anticipation as the rings seperate from his teachers staff and take position around the pair. The rings would begin to spin and spread a black chakra around them, until they find themselves completely surrounded without even the first bead of light entering the barrier. In complete darkness, Trunks watches the flicker of lightning raise toward the ceiling following its curved path before dying out. As he watches the display, Trunks listens to the warnings and tips his teacher has to offer. After all, he wouldn't want to kill himself with the technique. With the room dissolving around them, Trunks grips his Shakujo and prepares to attempt the technique.

Just as his teacher, Trunks begins by slamming the staff end onto the ground to release his chakra and rings, which then fly until they reach specific points around the two. As before, the rings would begin to emit black chakra that would spread around the pair, until it comes into contact with the next section of black chakra forming one entity of chakra that completely surrounds teacher and student. Waving his hand in front of his face, Trunks confirms that he is in complete darkness before allowing the technique to begin falling apart.

This technique is great for more than a few reasons, but I will try to make it short. Isolation from other opponents while you battle could be key, as well as cutting your opponent off from any form of aid. Limiting the fight to inner-strength by controlling the environment, this comes in handy when facing opponents of certain fighting styles. Further limitations due to the type of attacks deemed safe by the walls of the technique, making large scale techniques a bad idea unless suicide is your goal. You can even take it a step further and prepare for some of these weaknesses. For example, a shadow clone outside of their side of Purgatory could set traps to react to them freeing themselves. This technique would also make great combinations with other styles of fighting, such as the legendary Flying Thunder God style.

"Just so that you are aware, planting the staff into the ground was cosmetic, and not required.

And now, we complete your training with the appropriately titled Forgotten Verse. When it comes to the Nine Verses, a vast majority focus on the Ranged Style of fighting, leaving any use of the rings while attache to the staff to be fairly generic and generally staff-based. However, the Forgotten Second Verse is the epitome of the Bound Style half of the Verses. It is called Moksha, and was created by the sect of Shakujō users who surrendered the Path of the Monk to pursue the Path of the Soldier. Their minds were narrow in their way of thinking, and they only saw the Shakujō as a decorated staff, rather than the symbol it is and all it represents. Because of this, their crude usage resulted in a technique of raw, overflowing strength.

Moksha, so you know, is more commonly called Nirvana among Buddhist tradition - Moksha is its Hindu name. One of the four goals of mortality, Moksha refers to ascension beyond the cycle of death and rebirth known as Saṃsāra. The other aspects are living a moral life, amassing material possessions enough to live comfortably, and living a life of pleasure. All are important, but in cases of conflict living morally supersedes living comfortably or in pleasure, and striving for Moksha supersedes all. Moksha itself is a tough concept to grasp - one who has been trapped in shackles their entire life cannot comprehend what life without them would be like. In this case, these 'shackles' are your human nature, your desires, even all physical objects in this world... You cannot imagine awareness without anything to be aware of. Nirvana and Moksha have minor differences, but at that point we're moving away from why we are here. The difference, quickly, is that Nirvana has no consciousness, while Moksha all is One unified consciousness.

This has little importance to the technique itself, but serves as a connection between the name and application."

Holding the very butt end of his Shakujō, and pointing the ringed end away from himself, Mystogan began to make the rings spin.

"The technique begins much like the First Verse, but is taken to a far greater degree."

The rings began to spin faster and faster, a high-pitched scraping sound emanating from the staff, growing louder and louder as Mystogan continued.

"The Second Verse is the Bound Style technique which breaks the boundaries between Bound and Ranged. It has ascended beyond the classifications we have given to the jutsu of this style."

The rings began to glow red as they continued to spin, and then white with a soft haze of heat distortion surrounding a half-meter diameter sphere around the head of the Shakujō.

"Moksha is Bound while not relying on the Shakujō itself, or even true close-quarter combat. The rings spin until the friction they made with the head of the Shakujō creates a horrible screeching and heats them up to blazing white-hot status. The heat haze around the head is your true weapon with this Second Verse, deflecting or simply burning/melting anything that touches the hot-air barrier. Enter close-range of an opponent, and the sound can cause inner-ear damage. But do not be fooled by this technique - it is not Fire Style, or any other 'specialty' subdivision of jutsu. This barrier plays on par with all elements, and is extremely dangerous in close-range. Even to the user - it is required that you essentially hold your Shakujō from the very furthest end point, which results in the staff's movements being wider and less precise, though it hardly matters with a half-meter berth at your disposal.

And finally, a truly astounding aspect of the technique... Perhaps it would be better to simply watch before I explain."

Winding up his arm, Mystogan swung the Shakujō across his body, sending off a single super-heated ring which flew into and straight through a tree, igniting and destroying portions of its trunk while the ring itself was still three meters away, though with the speed at which the ring moved it was difficult to see with the naked eye. Setting down his Shakujō with the other five rings clinking together, the one shot off quickly flew back, reattaching to the staff as Mystogan looked back to his student.

"By concentrating all of your chakra to a single ring, you and release it into a Ranged Style technique and shoot it off like an arrow. The single ring acts as a congregate of the entire Verse - One unified consciousness - and thus gains the heat and speed of the other five... Resulting in a three meter radius heat-haze barrier that ignites or melts anything in its path. Its projectile speed also isn't anything to laugh at, resulting in a very potent technique overall. Now show me you are capable, my student."

Description: An ancient technique, sealed in a scroll from the time of the second generation of Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu users, it wasn't until many generations later that the Forgotten Second Verse was discovered. Building upon the First Verse, the Forgotten Second Verse was a testament to those who left the way of the monk and entered the way of the soldier, learning how to weaponize the Shakujo, yet not knowing how to manipulate the rings as projectiles.
To begin the technique, the user charges chakra through the Shajuko, which will cause the attached rings to spin around wildly. The rings will perk up in a similar manner as the First Verse, but the chakra coating them will acquire different properties. As they spin, they will create a great drag and friction around the brim of the staff's head and the air around. In a fine balance between self-preservation and output of energy, the ring portion in contact with the staff, and the staff's head will glow past the hues of red to become a scorching white light, with the vibration around the rings and staff acquiring powerful repellent barrier of displaced air and a deafening metal on metal friction sound. The user is then able to swing the blazing hot staff, using the heated air barrier to stun and repel any target in close proximity, the air not only pushing way the target before it can actually come in contact with the heated ring, but also heavily burning the target as it is being repelled. If in close proximity with mechanical sensible organs, such as the inner-ear, the metal sound will disrupt and pierce, adding deafness to the burning damage. In practical terms, this hot barrier suffers no elemental weakness or strengths, a combination between energy damage (heat) and physical damage (displaced air), allowing the user to imbue Kenjutsu and Taijutsu techniques that use the Shajuko with the barrier's power. The scouring rotation lasts for 3 turns, after which the rings will simply become limp and cool down, for 2 turns. The radius of the barrier is half a meter, which is the distance the user must remain from the staff's head, in order not to be affected by it, making the motions of the style looser and wider, as the practitioner will usually wield the staff from it's very bottom, creating distance from the head.
Additionally, the user is able to focus chakra on the staff's head during the technique, forcing the rings to infuse their chakra onto a single one, which will embody all the power of the verse. The user is then able to shoot this ring off the Shajuko, towards the opponent, at the speed of an arrow. This will forcefully end the verse and begin the cooldown at the end of the turn, where the projectile will fly back towards the Shajuko, after it dealt damage (counts as a move). As the single ring has gained all the chakra, and therefore speed and power, of the other rings, the barrier of heat it gives off as it flies slowly expands as the chakra cannot contain the heat in such a localized area, causing the barrier to grow six times its original size; three meters in radius.
Note: ~Can only be taught by the master of the Shakujo no Kyū-Setsu style
~After the barrier finishes, during the cool down, the user is unable to use Shajuko techniques
~Can only be used once per battle
