two of the greatest pirates currently living go head to head, i don't really know shanks's full potential but i'm sure that rayleigh has mastered haki better than shanks because rayleigh has been around for longer but still i haven't seen shanks's full potential so i could underestimating him :shrug:

It's exactly as you say it is. I would go with Shanks only because he is younger than Rayleigh

shanks would but in prime i think rayleigh would win or it would be close we havent seen any of the strongest people in there prime fight all out at full stregth like wb we saw him kick ass at 72 just to think what he was like when he was in his prime makes me so scared of how strong other yonku are and of how freakin strong roger was and rayleigh this also makes me wonder how strong garp is so many questions still to be answered

Roger was stronger then whitebeard and rayleigh is roger´s second commander so i´d say he could equal whitebeard in a fight, shanks is very strong but he´s not up there.
Rayleigh wins with extreme difficulty.

Shanks is fresh so yeah he has the upper-hand, he also has mastered haoushoku haki pretty much like Rayliegh though him being old it wont be a piece of cake for Shanks to defeat him, but if we see Rayliegh in his prime would just rape shanks.

yea i have to go to with this shanks is a yonku in all but he hasnt done anything to wow me i couldnt answer this with confidence untill i see shanks go all out

If it was Naruto, then Shank would win because the younger generation is surpassing the older.
But I go with Rayleigh since he would fight without problems Kizaru despite his age. He is far more experienced than Shanks.
