Didn't a man go into prison after posting rasist comments about Muamba when he collapsed during a football match? He became seriously ill after as well... How disgusting, I can't believe people are this rude and cruel. I do hope he's recovery well and returns back on the football pitch (only if he wants that is). I agree with this. I don't get why some people don't understand that everyone is equal. I just finished reading To Kill A Mockingbird, so I know how racism affected some people in the past. But even to this day it still affects people. This might be a problem in the world that won't go away.

It's actually really not that odd as racism has only very recently became something 'bad'. At the start of the twentieth century, thus the same period as right now, it was common knowledge that there were 'superior' and 'inferior' races, which was even scientifically 'proven'. That notion was incredibly strong till the middle of the 20th century. It's only after the things that happened during the WW that racism really became something bad. However even then during the '60 and '70 there was a lot of discrimination. In America the entire society was separated. It's only in the last few decades that anti-racism transformed from just being a moralistic notion to having a practical effect on the society and then mainly in the Western countries as the countries that fell under the influence of the former Soviet Union, like Poland and certainly Ukraine, that's another story. That Obama became the president of the USA can be considered a small miracle as 20 - 30 years ago people would have laughed at the idea. And then I'm only talking about Europe and the USA.

It's not so surprising that there's still a strong notion of racism around those parts of Europe and that's not the only problem they have. I've also heard about manifestations of feminists, related to trade of woman for prostitutes and that kind of stuff, who want to boycott Euro 2012.

Yes overall it was a bit of a paradoxical decision to let those two organize the event, though the reasons behind it were highly likely both political as symbolical or something.

Even on NB we have from time to time problems with racist persons. Last week I got a message from someone who I infracted for making a thread saying that black people are stupid and that they should stop whining. That's a racial slur, but he then demanded that the infraction would be revoked as it was the 'truth' and that children shouldn't be on a forum if they can't handle 'objective' opinions.

But to see that disturbing footage on TV was atrocious, and I can imagine how the citizens of Poland and Ukraine must feel as I felt pretty embarrassed when the riots were going on in London
