despite teh chuchumaki nardo being teh main character of teh series by virtue of being teh title character, Sasuke's role in the series has been so important that it is arguable that he is teh true main character of teh series. He is teh glue of that holds teh manga together, let me explain why.
1. Kishimoto himself confirms teh series couldn't last without Sasuke. If this alone doesn't convince you tat Sasuke is teh most vital cog in teh series, feel free to bury your head in teh sand some more.
2. Sasuke had a more important role in saving teh world tan Naruto, teh ultimate goal in teh manga. Sasuke's dojutsu prowess was required, not Naruto. Naruto's death would have had less of an impact than Sasuke's in the war arc. Furthermore, Sasuke's rinnegan allowed him to trace teh ootsutsuki, the biggest threats in the universe since the war. Naruto's lack of a dojutsu meant he had to sit twiddling his thumbs until Sasuke solved the world's problems. In other words, Sasuke plays a more important role in the maintainence of peace in teh Nv.
3. Kishimoto explicitly states tat Sasuke=Naruto. When you consider tat Naruto is the main/title character of teh series, tis is crazy. Naruto is not even teh most powerful character in a series named after him, this is Shonen blasphemy. Furthermore, if you subtract title character bias tat all authors apply, it's quite obvious tat Sasuke is stronger. There's a reason why Kishomoto ended teh manga before Sasuke could master teh rinnegan, because beyond teh hour Sasuke had as its owner he was already on Hagoromo's level. Had he left it any longer it would have been difficult to keep them as "equals" and for teh sake of Naruto's dignity as teh main character, he wanted to preserve tat status.
4. Sasuke had several conclusive wins over Naruto throughout the series, something which teh latter can't claim.
