It's this revelation and this secret vulnerability this entire time that made Sasuke a true badass and finally, at 699- cemented him as a character with depth. QUESTION IS: Why did this HUGE part of Sasuke's character come so late in the game? Literally the final few seconds of the series do we realise Sasuke isn't plain asf. Kishi why.

Pfft, that "revelation" was evident from part one. But congratulations, it only took you 699 chapters to figure it out. Quite a performance I could say.

NOPE. There is no reason for the reader to keep thinking this is how Sasuke is considering time and time again he proves he is cold and pushes family connections away.

This is a last minute reveal for the character. It's sub-text. And very forgotten about sub-text at that.

congrats on being an elitist telepath/lucky guesser? Other than Sasuke's annoyance at Naruto's strength this isn't a recurring theme in the manga yo

Yeah but this insecurity of his (not a bash, insecurities are what make interesting characters) has been there since the Zabuza mission. BEFORE. You think it would've been broadcast to the reader sooner considering there's been so many Sasuke-focused moments and arcs...and very few moments of Sasuke showing this closeted teamwork or desperation to not show weakness.

Thats always been apart of his character and more perceptive readers caught on to it even if it wasn't always explicitly stated:

Those hints always come through when he's in a desperate situation.

Alot of people here think the war arc was the entirety of the manga  I disagree and will leave it at that.

Just because you forgot about it doesn't mean Sasuke fans or other people forgot about it. Don't bring everyone else down to your level.

Is it his power? It's his power right? That's all I hear from what makes him badass.

Hahahahahaha, his power or his hair are the two I hear a lot. :hs:

(psst it's because the edgy antihero archetype that Sasuke embodies is a shonen-demographic power fantasy for 12-18 year old boys)

Very true but to the extreme level Kishi reveals at the end? That's still a little far. Good moments to pick out though, it was always hinted but then pushed away by the fact that every character change he went through- he kept his one expression.

If Sasuke never had chidori and part one get up I would have found him boring as the other Uchiha.

i always felt Sasuke's character could have been improvised. I mean apart from his power hungry revenge obsessed side his thought process about his past could have been developed a bit more especially his internal struggle towards naruto......that was mostly presented at his jealousy at many times in the series. On the other hand when you talk about naruto you get a clear idea from he is coming from i mean you see his loser side, the anger, hatred, his caring and loving side. Naruto's depiction as a character who could be a loser in a moment and a boss in the next, his unpredictability combined with his goofiness made him a more likable character than Sasuke. Sasuke might have been cooler in some aspects, fighting styles specially but his character lacked the emotional depth or should i say his emotions were shown as being too much screwed up. His character shrouded in mystery was always overshadowed by Itachi and often appeared as a frustrated idiot

He was damn good at hiding this fact, that's for sure. Every time Naruto was around, Sasuke appeared to see him as inferior. Turns out all along he respected Naruto and felt inferior himself.
