I like that addition that Kishi made and the original anime story is real fun addition to the NV too, won't let NB pointlessly invalidate that for me without thinking about why. Can't remember last time I had a chat about something that wasn't in the manga, stuff gets down instantly and there's zero need.

If the character was taken out, the story would still make sense to somebody who's never watched it. That's filer.

Kishimoto has already stated that without Sasuke, the manga would've ended before it started.

Rivalry is what saved the manga. Sasuke the character could've been easily replaced with someone like Neji and the story would go on just fine as long as the MC had a rival.
