So lets talk about this.
We know that in the beginning of the series sasuke had expressed a desire to surpass Itachi, but I can't help but feel that as the series neared its end this aspect was treated poorly.
Throughout the later part of the series sasuke is constantly reminded by some other character about how he is inferior to Itachi in some way or other. This really shouldn't be the case
Then again when Itachi returns instead of leading the fight he is pushed to back and is constantly lectured by him and saved by him.
Hakugeki, Inorganic reanimation, Sound genjutsu, Itachi rescues him from all this, and is the main fighter and ultimately defeats kabuto while sasuke is a mere assistant at best and spectator at worst.
On why exactly this looks bad you can look at Naruto who has the reverse.
Naruto was the lead fighter against the juubi/madara/obito and the hokages were assisting him, not the other way around. And kishi had no problem showing and telling us that he achieved what he wanted.
Now you will say "b-but OP look at how biiiig sasuke's susanoo is!, he will stomp itachi"
That is not the point, the point is Kishi's reluctance to plainly say that sasuke has surpassed itachi and how he subtly finds ways to show him inferior to itachi.
