They were both given upgrades by Hagoroomo so they should have equal strenght in that sense, but Naruto fighting someone with the Rinnegan and that knows how to use it, he should have lost. Sasuke is better than him.

It isn't called Sasuke Uchiha. If this manga was about Sasuke then he would be the star and Sasuke would have won. But plot dictated Sasuke not be the one to win as the manga is not about him. So saying Naruto won because of plot is pointless and doesn't make Sasuke's loss somehow void.

Naruto knows how to counter the Rinnegan paths and wouldn't of made much of a difference. Let's not forget Naruto also didn't use techs that he should be able to, but didn't because of plot.
