Honestly I think both underestimated their enemy while at the same time were too cautious. They wanted to learn his skill set instead of stomping him in the ground with their ultimate powers.

I dont mind that the two powerhouses got downgraded a bit, the manga is more exciting that way. More strategic fights and less asspulls.

For 1 Sasuke switch again within mid air to get his sword back and that why he was within Naruto cloak (who by the way was being a total Sasuke Fanboy the whole time within this fight). Still a 1 handed Sasuke trash these guys. So what was two arms, senju cells having, super 9 tail fox steroids using Naruto excuse, cause the true biggest blunder was Naruto not also attack the two guys when Sasuke switch behind them and did a 1 handed fire ball jutsu (Naruto right then had a opening to attack the older Shin, making a Sasuke Naruto combination attack)? I know the reason why and that is Naruto been sitting on his butt to long and is rusty in battle like Kurama said (victory has defeated him).

Everything else is Kishimoto instead of making the villains more powerful to compete against Sasuke & Naruto. He made the Naruto & Sasuke conveniently less skill and powerful to let the villains compete with them (basically lazy uncreative writing, but that Kishimoto sum up).

It's not Sasuke being naive , it's the guy being strong , his telekinesis is stronger than Sasuke in base mode.

I'm sure that Sarada wasn't in danger , even if she was hit by the sword , Naruto would have healed her.

They understood some of the guy powers during the fight , I'm sure that this was their 2nd goal during this fight , after protecting the children.
They just lost Sakura , and some may say that it's a good thing or that it was Sasuke's plan
