the third was trained by first and second hokage, primarily the second.....the reason y he was regarded as such a powerful shinobi is because of his ability to use all elements in combat fire..earth...water..etc...similar to Kakashi....In his prime he was never outmatched in taijutsu. The main reason the leaf villagers regard him so highly is because of mantle. We all know the first and second were very strong ninja....so why would u think that their progeny would be weak?? And Orochimaru isnt weak.....think about it....out of all the villains in the manga/anime....he is the only one who is still sustaining.....He lives within Kabuto and I wouldnt rule out his consciousness and cells taking over Kabuto's body and coming back!
