I can easily say this is the worst anime I've ever seen. (There are definitely worse out there but I don't watch something unless it interests me.) I have no idea how it became so popular and how people actually like it.

I have had some friends recommend it to me and I know it is popular, but seriously, its terrible. The only slightly interesting character was the red haired guy from the first episode. But then he just disappears from the story for no reason. And is instead replaced by the most generic, annoying, ditsy anime girls. All of their personalities are exactly the same and you can't tell one from another.

This show amazes me for one reason. It made such an interesting world but managed to not show any of the parts that people wanted to see. Instead we get scenes of them just sitting around and eating or talking about romantic bullshit. They made it to 70-something floors, and they only managed to show like 3 boss fights. What was the point of making the setting so cool if you aren't going to expand on any of it? There was no strategy, training, questing, PVP, new skills, dungeons, leveling, adventuring, exploring, resource gathering, or anything you would expect to see in an MMO. It was all just garbage.

When they finished the game I stopped watching. That was the only thing that kept me watching and they just scrapped it at floor 70. WTF is that? I'll tell you what it is, its terrible writing. Probably the worst I have ever seen in a professional show.

I don't even want to know how bad the arcs after they leave the game are.

I agree.
The romantic aspect made me quit, it's so annoying. I read the novel summaries and quit after I found out he could just go in and out of games whenever he felt like it.

I see your point. I was kind of disappointed by it, too, to the extent in which I stopped watching halfway through. However, I won't say it's a bad anime. The plot is actually kind of interesting and original, and as far as it goes for me, it's the way it suddenly turned from a shounen anime into what seemed a shoujo that ruined it. Kirito and Asuna's 'relationship' shouldn't have been the main focus of this anime. U_U

It really should be labeled as a Shoujo so poeple like me don't get fooled into watching it. The concept was cool. But it seems like the writers completely ditched the MMO part and just focused on the ditsy girls.

Agreed, it was an atrocious piece of shit. I'd say it was one of my worst had I not watched Demon King Daimo. Well, I take that back, D King Daimo probably even beats it. Smh.

Don't let anyone tell you different, those saying you're stupid for having common sense were caught up in the hype of SAO. I congratulate you, sir, for being able to notice SAO's obvious flaws.

Really, though, SAO sucks. Deal with it.

Any teenager girl would come up with a lame love story like that
That's an insult to teenage girls. One of my boys actually told me straight to my face that SAO had a better love story than Angel Beats, had we not been in a class I would have slapped the shit out of him. Lol

I assure you an infant could make a love story 10 x better than SAO's.

That friend of yours is mental...........
even Hinata and Yui story in ep 10 alone make the romance in SAO look mediocre.

Wasted potential. It could have easily had 100 episodes with epic story arcs and the romance. They did rush it. It did have its moments, though.

It was just plain bad. They could've really gone in-depth with all the floors but they just time skipped everything.

The set up was great, but then the story just revolved around a love story which was badly written in itself.

The second half was terrible and the deus ex machina ending was even worst.

SAO had the setting down, which it never fully explored. Most characters were pretty poor, originally the selfish self centered and concerned Kirito, who occasionally gave a shit about people who were in a similar situation, or could be in a similar situation to him was cool. (EG the whole Betear establishment to protect the Beta testers) But then he became some muffer who rolled over to any girl in trouble, while abandoning Klein, one of the few characters who actually showed promise. I think the whole Santa Clause arc part, with his 'team-mates' dying, and the resurrection attempt was decently well done, though it could have been darker but still it was reasonable, but after that it just became a pile of happy rainbow spewing BS. SAO pretty much flopped when it came to PVP, and it lost its intensity as the story went on. To put it simply, you can't have a scenario and premise like SAO did, and try to make it overly happy, which is what it attempted to do. It needs to be darker...

That's how it is in the books... What's funny is, that when an animation company animates something and they don't stick to the original store-line, people cry about it; but even when they do, people still complain...

Lol The plot's similarity to the manga/novel isn't the problem here. It's the plot itself.
