So we need feats in a back-story to know if characters are powerful?

not necessary. but considering the amount of hype the characters in Naruto give them and the amount of time the Sannin are shown in the manga, they should have a little bit more than we faced Hanzo and he let us live in exchange for our names as them being "legendary" and powerful

you only become powerful when you don't care about power but only care about protecting others and helping them, that's the true power and that's why the manga is called naruto, naruto wants to protect people and things he cares about and naruto gained all this power along the way because he deserved it, naruto only trains and tries to get stronger to protect others not for self satisfaction, which is why naruto always prevails over the villains, because he fights for more than just pure "power"

haha i like that. +rep

jiraiya also trained the 4th hokage, just saying.

ok lets make it clear again. we are talking about battle strengths in terms of being powerful. he was a good teacher. i never disputed that.

If you are allowed to take things out of context of the manga and completely disregard the true meaning of it, why can't i do the same with your text?

Clarify what you mean exactly.

according to you by comparison, sakura or ino are stronger than naruto.

lol you misread what i said big time. i said if they were the only ones alive.(sakura and ino). naruto wasn't in that equation

"i either wrote that in bad grammar or you cant comprehend. what i was saying was lets say you said Naruto is Kage level. How would you determine that? In order to do that you would have to compare his strength to that of all kages to determine if he falls under Kage level. if Sakura and Ino were the only two ninjas alive, Sakura would be deemed "powerful" and Kage level as they were the only two alive. comparison is how you determine ones strength"

i was saying that naruto killed kages with his clones, that's how he's kage level.

he killed kages therefore he should be considered on kage level. so that's a comparison. that was my point about that

Hidan cannot Kill Orichimaru..What the hell is he gonna do stab and stab and stab himself until Orchimaru dies...Roll eyes

Orochimaru isnt immortal. He is just deemed immortal. He bleeds like everyone else

All of The Sannin fought to a Draw with Danzou. j-Man didn't stop Orochimaru no and when they fought when he had no arms he was poisoned and didn't go into SM,

First it was Hanzo not Danzu. and J-man also said he was at 30%. that was nearly 1/3 of his full power. thats not impressive by no means

I read you post and they make little sense. The Sannin are Strong. They would be all star players on Akatsuki. You can't name a single Jounin ninja not in Akatsuki that can beat them...Please try

I never said they were weak. And did i say a Jonin could beat them. I said they were above your average ninja. Most Jonins skills only go so far. they are the exception

So your saying that they are given too much credit in the manga? But that's how it is written... Whether it bothers you or not there is no changing it. In fact I think your level of what is considered normal in Narutoverse is skewed. An average ninja uses kunai, shurikens, and has like one elemental jutsu and its variants. Think about all those shinobi that are getting slaughtered on the battlefield right now. That is normal. Kakashi, not normal, guy, not normal, Darui, not normal. Dude that gave Sakura that love letter and was mad nervous about it... normal.

yes i stated that but this was not part of my original post either. it was a reply to someone stating that the manga says they are powerful by all nations which is a lie. i stated a fact. jirayia thought he was a failure. not once but twice he said it

we all know the ranks and positions are not all about a person's power. but this thread wasn't about that. idc that they were offered the position of hokage. that has nothing to due with my thread as far as power goes and you just said rank doesn't have to do with just power

I was side tracking just a bit to make a point and reply to your post, that's all. I mean no dissrespect, I promise, but I still don't think you get the true meaning of what I said.

Yes, it is more than JUST power. I'm not a Sasuke hater, but I like Naruto more than Sasuke because of CHARACTER and such things. They're both powerful, but regardless of who is/isn't stronger than the other has no regards to the fact that I have more respect for Naruto than Sasuke. The same thing goes with the Sanin. They're powerful, point taken, but it was more than power that gave them that title. Hanzo acknowleged them in their fight not for their strength, but something more. When the second Hokage passed the title to the Third, it wasn't just because of power, but the decisions he made and that he would always put his village and comrads before himself. Alot of people agree (and I understand why people think otherwise--I'm not taking sides between the two or trying to start an argument) that the Third was stronger in alot of ways than the Fourth, yet was it JUST becuse of skill and technique that he claimed the title of Hokage after the Third? No--it ws that he was a fit leader for Konoha.

im not trying to change. im just stating it. a reflex reaction...like huh...they really aren't as powerful as i thought they were. nothing personal nor does it bother me. just wanted to state it and think if anyone else sees this but most people are butthurt anytime you throw in the name Orochimaru or Jirayia as not being powerful. Note that I did say they wer strong. and to believe it or not the average ninja has mainly 1 or 2 skills sets they have above average skills in. Kiba, tenten, temari, etc. all those are average ninjas with certain above average skill sets. above average ninjas are pretty balanced in everything. powerful ninjas excel in almost every character and easily have their way with opponents. your point is valid though

This thread is basically outling why the Sannin (Orochimaru, Jirayia, and Tsunade), aren't powerful like people think they are.

While are three are considered Kage level or S-Rank ninjas know feat gives them this title. All of them had been considered for Hokage before, however only because of limited ninja strength available. Kakashi was also elected for Hokage and he is no where near Kage level.

Orchimaru attacked the leaf village years after he left. During this time the
3rd Hokage got older and the 4th Hokage sacrificed his life during the Nine Tailed Fox attack. Even by summoning the 1st Hokage and 2nd Hokage and having the Sound Four blocking outsiders into the fight he barely could manage to come out with a win against an old 3rd Hokage who was nowhere near in his prime.

With that being said that was the only time in the manga showing any of the 3 Sannin winning a match. There name, Sannin, was given to them by Hanzo, who was considered one of the strongest ninjas at the time only in spot that they manage to hold their own and not die in 5 seconds to him like common enemies that approached Hanzo. They basically were pitied upon. The same ninja lost to Nagato who was only a few years trained with his Rinnegan.

This same Nagato created his 6 paths of pain and managed to kill Jirayia in SM. Jirayia was at his with end with arguably 3 of his weaker paths. Many people argue had Jirayia known Pains secret he would have won. This is far-fetched as he could only beat 3 Pains with genjutsu with the assistance of Ma and Pa and was his last resort at beating Pain. Same token had Pain even knew Jirayia could use genjustu 3 Pains would have been enough to take him out.

In the fight between the Sannins all the parties look pathetic against each other in probably one of the worst fights in the manga between 3 highly known characters. All 3 were handicapped for one reason or another due to their poor judgement or inability to sense. Orochimaru had no hands due to the fact of his battle with the 3rd Hokage. Jirayia let Tsunade poison him with some drug. And the fact that he said he was at 30% is laughable. 30% is pretty high considering he was getting his ass handed to him by a No Sign Weilding Orochimaru. Tsunade was recovering from her trauma but her so called strength run out temporarily and didn't have enough of it to kill a weak Orochimaru.

Orochimaru ended up losing to Itachi and Sasuke. Most people argue he was weak against Sasuke lying in bed. However knowing that his body is getting weak why would he think it would be easy to take over Sasuke? Also if Sasuke overspammed MS and started losing vision who's fault is it that he's weak because of it? Orochimaru was ill because his body-transferring technique only allows him to have certain bodies for a certain period of time before it rejects him. His illness is cause by himself in other to stay immortal. This has yet to be seen in Kabuto as well.

Jirayia fails to master justus before Naruto does. Naruto learned Rasegan and a completed SM way before Jirayia even mastered them. Jirayia even considers himself a failure

There's no denying that they are strong. However, they aren't as powerful as their names give them. They were good in Part 1 because not enough characters were introduced. When you see the whole picture they aren't too powerful and most ninjas can stand their ground with them even if they lose

I agree with Chaotic Blades. :)

See that's one of the problematic issues with battle comics i.e. Naruto, DBZ, etc. Is that to keep everything interesting each opponent has to become stronger then the previous. forcing the main character to get that much stronger, to the point of over powering. It happened in DBZ for sure and it is happening in Naruto. The thing i do like about Naruto is that there is a mental and emotional progression with the characters as well. They have personal revolations and realizations.

Anyway, yes I agree to an extent, the presentation of the Sannins made them seem unstoppable, just as how Hiruzen was deemed "the god of shinobi" but when compared to what we have seen from the previous kages, he doesn't APPEAR that strong. HOWEVER you can't judge his level of skill by that one fight against orochimaru, as well as the first's and second's skills. The battle area was very small and it was a direct head to head battle. If they were in the position the previous Edo kages were in on the battlefield, any three of the previous Hokages would be surrounded by bodies as well.

So, what I'm getting at is that the Sannins are really strong, yes, and have an extremely high level of skill and proved themselves, to Hanzo, to be worthy of the title of legendary. We really don't know the whole story, or any of their amazing feats that they accomplished against Hanzo for him to give them that title. None the less he gave it to them. The story can't show us all the minute details of everything, we have to take the authors word for truth and it sucks that the three sannins don't live up to their hype for you, yeah they aren't as great as Madara, but they are still pretty great.

jiraiya: one of the best mid/close fighter in naruto verse
tsunade:the best healer in naruto verse A.K.A super fast healing and one of the best close range fighter in naruto verse

I mean they were battling him and he looked as though he was toying with them but he was amused with their power. legendary seems to be idk, weird seeing that they fought him for about 2 mins and they were out of breath looking like they were about to pass out.

So "should have"...
Is this some sort of requirement? If so, provide proof, kishi

I said that because we don't need a background a the 1st or madara and his brother or minato because the manga has gone out of its way to actually say this ninjas are powerful and were feared and respected for their power and people went out of their way to obtain their power if they could. sannin were strong but they were respected by people because of who their sensei was and their will of fire.
