Also, are people forgetting what happened with Vergo and Smoker? The more smoke Smoker had, the larger the target Vergo had to be able to strike. The second Crocodile bonds his body and consciousness with the desert, Sanji can literally stomp the ground and make Crocodile pass out due to the connection.

If they are connected to it, it will. There's a difference between launching or firing your element and being connected to it. You cannot dispute this, the manga page above confirms it.
