Salem Bastion part 1:
A lone boy seemingly in his teenage years stands on top of the highest building in the sand village looking thoughtfully out into the deep dessert in front of him. He seems destraught and desolute of any happy feeling, suddenly his thoughts are interrupted by voices. Village civilians were walking and speaking in excitement as they walked. "General Bastion is the greatest general we've ever had, some even say he's next in line for the title of Kazekage" said one of the villagers.
"Yes I've heard the same, the leaf may have us outnumbered and overpowered but they are taking the full on offensive while we are on the defensive, they will never be able to beat us in the dessert" replied the other villager. The boy stopped paying attention after this but then started listening again when he heard the villagers mention the uchiha clan. The boy walked following them, he jumped to the ground and descreetly trailed behind them. "Their is an Uchiha captain however...by the name of Wolf Uchiha who seems to be a serious threat. Apparently his uchiha unit has taken out countless of our men near the edge of the dessert, he has yet to meet up with our generals forces but so far all of our captains have fallen before him.
He is so powerful the General of the Leaf's army doesn't even have to take much responisibility or authority in the war, this captain is taking care of it all...if he meets up with Bastion..." the villager started to explain but was interrupted by the other villager walking with him. "No no theirs no way he will be able to stand up to Bastion" he said. The boy following them stopped after hearing this and then his thoughts went back to that place...his obsession with uchiha and their powers. He had always been obsessed with the sharingan and the Uchiha clan and studied much of history, he studied the Akatsuki and especially Orochimaru.
He believed Orochimaru had the right idea in his pursuit of the sharingan but he would never speak this to his father or anyone for that matter, no he wasn't stupid he knew very well what this kind of talk would get him. "Salem! Salem! your fathers home and wants to speak with you!" a woman came running and yelling to him. Salem recognized her as one of his fathers servants, he never knew his mother she died giving birth to him. Salem thought to himself how clever his father was, his father knew since he was revered as the great General Bastion he is seen as a hero and would get much more attention then he desired if he made a front door entrance through the village.
But Salem could never figure out how his father always managed to sneak in without getting caught. Salem hurried home not wanting to hear a lecture from his father for taking too long. Salem loved his father and accepted that to be a fact but also felt a great anger and hate toward him at times. His father was revered as the greatest puppet master in the village and also the best strategist. The biggest reason his father was so admired though is because he had mastered the Iron sand technique invented by the Third Kazekage.
Only the current Kazekage was considered to be stronger then him in the village. His father forced him to learn the puppet master jutsu and also perfect sand jutsu, although Salem showed such little interest in the Iron Sand technique that his father didn't believe he even deserved to learn it. Salem didn't care that his father didn't force him to learn it but he did have the speculation that his father wouldn't teach it to him for fear that Salem would surpass him. Salem had a blistering anger toward his father for forcing these things on him but he still loved him. He realized they were a lot alike in a lot of ways. Salem finally arrived and walked through his front door.
"Took you long enough" said his father. Salem didn't reply. "Have you worked on your puppet jutsu at all today? you know it's about time you build some of your own whether then tinkering around with my spare ones" said his father. "I will eventually...it's not like I'm fighting a war right now, like you" replied Salem seemingly in a good natured tone. "Don't try to trick me boy I wasn't born yesterday, I know you and I know you are hiding your true talents from me" replied his father with a grin as he sat down with a cup of tea and folded his arms his full attention on Salem who was walking through the kitchen area pretending to look for something to keep from meeting his fathers revealing gaze. "Naa what you see is what you get old man" replied Salem with a seemingly over relaxed tone. "Haha ok then..." replied his father.
"What are you doing back anyway the wars not over yet" said Salem hoping to change the subject and get it off of him. "Well thats a keen observation (he said sarcastically) it seems Captain Wolf has stopped his forces just a few hundred miles away from us so he is obviously planning something...anyway I just snuck back here quickly to tell you something" replied his father. "What's that?" Salem asked as he sat at the other end of the table. His interest was peeked he knew this would have to be very important if his father snuck away from his men to come and speak to Salem about it. "I have a feeling Wolf is planning on hitting my forces head on full force seemingly without strategy, so that he can use this as a distraction and sneak a few Uchiha assasins in to take some innocent villagers here hostage so that he can end this war quickly" explained his father.
"How could you possibly know that?" questioned Salem. "Because I have been studying his style and his combat habits, their are a lot of reasons I believe this actually but of course I don't know for sure, that's why I'm telling you and not the Kazekage...I just want you to descreetly patrol the village and the outsides of it and all the dark alleys and warn the Kage if you see anything suspicious, don't bother with other shinobi because their aren't many of them left here...just go straight to the Kazekage" explained his father.
"Or I could kill them myself" replied Salem as he got up knowing exactly what his father would say next. "No you are still just a chunin, so do as I say" replied his father. "I may be a chunin but you hardly ever let me go on missions or do anything that the other chunin do" Salem stated and felt himself getting anrgy as he did. "This isn' t the time to speak of this just do as I say, I need to get back...I love you son" said his father. "I love you too dad" replied Salem with a note of disappointment toward the end. Salem left and began searching the borders of the village after his father left. After a few hours passed Wolf launched an all out assault on Bastions forces.
Sand and Leaf ninja battled it out the numbers were something like: 3500 sand shinobi against 9000 leaf, but because they were in the dessert the sand ninja had a huge advantage and took their numbers down so quickly they seemed to be at a stail-mate. Wolf moved 12 of his men through a seemingly unoccupied area of the dessert with his sharingan active and his pupils moving quickly searching the area, they walked very light footed as if they were walking on egg shells. Wolf had shoulder length dark hair and an extremely well fit build.
Suddenly Wolf yelled very loudly "Everyone in the air now! and launch your strongest fireball jutsu directly at the ground!" no one questioned this command for they had learned to trust him. All of the leaf shinobi (None were uchiha but Wolf, Wolf had sent all his remaining Uchihas on another mission) leaped into the air and fired off their fireball jutsus including Wolf. This proved to be a good call because when the dust cleared their layed the bodies of 11 sand shinobi who were attempting to attack from underneath. The leaf shinobi landed back safely on the ground and awaited their Captains next command. Suddenly they heard "Ultimate Sandstorm Jutsu!" very loudly and then a terrible sand storm covered them all.
Wolf stood searching the sand with his eyes when he saw dark figures moving in the storm. He heard the screams of his men and attempted to search for them to assist them but he found himself lost. Suddenly he heard the faint sound (faint because the sandstorm was roaring very loudly) of a footstep behind him. He swiftly pulled out a kunai and spun it between his fingers he slashed through the head of the opponent behind him easily without even completely turning around. The sand storm then stopped and he looked to see all his men dead and the enemy he just killed was a puppet laying now lifeless and detached from it's strings.
Wolf then looked ahead of him to see a middle-aged man with brown hair standing staring him down with a slight smile/smirk on his face. "Your Captain Wolf correct?" he asked. "Yes and you are?" Wolf asked as he flipped and spun his kunai in his hand at his side out of anxious-ness. "General Bastion of course" replied the man with a slightly playfull tone. "So it was your puppets that killed my men here not other sand shinobi?" asked Wolf returning Bastions playfull tone with a serious and solemn one. "Yes thats correct" replied Bastion. "Viron Bastion...I have heard so much about you, I can't help but feel a little anxious" replied Wolf. "Yes the fact that you can't stop twirling that kunai at your side gives away your nervousness" Bastion stated in return. "I'm not nervous I'm just prepared mentally for this" replied Wolf plainly.
"You are so serious...lighten up a little buddy" said Bastion. "I'm not your buddy and this war ends here..." stated Wolf. Bastions smile grew larger and then suddenly puppet hands came from beneath Wolf and grabbed his ankles. Another puppet stepped infront of Bastion who still stood with his arms folded and that same smirk on his face and charged toward him with a katana heading into a lunge. The katana pierced through Wolf but then Wolf dispersed into sand. Then suddenly Wolfs hands emerged from the sand underneath Bastion and grabbed his ankles. "Copy cat" said Bastion.
Long chains emerged from the sand all around them and the two puppets Bastion had attacked with began running in opposite directions, one to his left and the other to his right. The chains pulled up and Bastion stepped a few steps backwards now that Wolf had released him. The chains pulled Wolf out of the sand revealing him to be all tied up in them. Wolf struggled greatly to get free but couldn't. "Thats all you've got? but their were so many stories about the great Wolf Uchiha" said Bastion. "I know I can't best you Viron but you have failed to anticipate my real plan haven't you noticed those dead Leaf shinobi over their aren't Uchiha?" Wolf stated more then asked.
"I already figured out your plan to take hostages in the Sand Village...I'm guessing you only sent a few Uchiha assassins to make sure the Kazekage doesn't detect them so I'm sure my son can handle them" relplied Bastion who's expression and tone had changed to become more serious. Wolf was left baffled by this. "I can't believe this...how did you know?" questioned Wolf. "A lot of things gave it away really but that's not important...what is important as that you will stay right here with me while my clone goes and gets our interrogator" replied Bastion. Wolf closed his eyes and dropped his head toward the ground accepting defeat.
Wolf pondered on how he couldn't see through the generals puppet chain jutsu with his sharingan but he guessed that Bastion had somehow managed to quickly have the puppets set it up as Wolf traveled into the sand beneath him. But still he predicted I would come from beneath him and managed to set up that jutsu at a time I wasn't looking, and not to mention he figured out my backup strategy without any evidence at all? he is truly amazing, Wolf thought to himself. Meanwhile Salem found an area outside of the village between two large clifts, somehow he knew this would be where the assasins would attempt to sneak in.
He deducted this assumption based on the fact that this area was completely abandoned and thus must be the only area the assassins would come from. Salem quickly placed explosives along the clifts. He thought about tripwires but didn't bother knowing that the assassins would be too well trained for them and wouldn't fall for that so instead he placed a seal on them that would allow him to make them explode by use of hand signals. He carried wrapped up on his back 6 of his fathers spare puppets which he made sure were properly equipped and ready to go. He had every intention in the world to face these assassins on his own and thus prove to his father he is more worthy then he thinks he is.
Not knowing his father had actually expected this of him in the first place. Salem hid and waited and finally after sensing a disturbance he saw a shadow flicker by the side of the clift across from him. He waited a few moments as you would wait for a fish that has taken the bait to get a good hold on it and then finally he made the hand signals creating the explosion which sent debris flying everywhere. Salem then immediately without any delay unwrapped his puppets and ran out in the open hoping to finish the assassins before they could re-group since he knew they would have managed to survive the blast. He saw one of them laying on the ground with a sharp earth plate in his leg and the other one was missing.
The Uchiha leaned up and reavealed his sharingan Salem found himself mesmorized this was the first time he had seen one in person. But he then quickly came to his senses and realized the enemy was attempting to put him in a genjutsu. Salem stopped his chakra flow to stop the jutsu and then swifty flicked a small shuriken at the wounded Uchiha piercing his throat. He then heard from behind him the other Uchiha was shooting multiple fireballs from the top of the other clift at him. Salem pulled his puppets up to guard and then sent them out to attack. The uchiha swiftly jumped meeting them head on dueling with them and quickly destroying them with skillfull kunai skills. The Uchiha landed about 14 feet infront of salem.
"You may have killed my ally because he was wounded by your trap but now you must face me without the advantage of traps and I am at full health...still I am impressed you knew we were coming and somehow knew we were coming this way...you were laying in wait for us" stated the Uchiha. "I have nothing to say to a dead man" replied Salem calmly and coldly. The uchiha grew anrgy and charged at Salem. Salem pulled a wall of sand up to shield him and the Uchiha stopped and looked upward at the rising wall. Then suddenly Salem emerged from the top and sent several shuriken flying toward him. The path of the shuriken led the shinobi backwards and then to the side where he stopped and then began forming hand signs.
He then let out a blast of air which despersed all of the sand and left Salem on one knee seemingly helpless. The Uchiha smiled and opened his mouth to speak but then Salem quickly pulled a string setting off an explosion directly under the Uchiha killing him right away. "I told you I've got nothing to say to a dead man" he said again out loud just before the Uchiha exploded. Salem dusted himself off and began to walk away but then he stopped and turned back to the sharingan eyes these ninja held. He wanted so badly to just cut them out and take them but he knew this was insane. The thought tortured Salem so much he knew this was insane and would disappoint his father greatly but he could't help it, he couldn't overcome the urge so he pulled out a kunai and...he did it! he cut out their eyes and stuck them in a pouch not knowing this would be the beginning of a dark dark road that layed ahead of him.
