First of all I'd like to talk about Sakura's strenght which is far above the normal shinobi. Byakugō Sakura was able to do this -> [x] the power of the Shockwave can easily bust through the sand Gaara is using on Sakura, given the location [Konoha forest] Sakura has a better mobility in the forest adding the fact that she has a 3 in speed, Gaara would have a hard time keeping up, now all of you might say that Gaara can easily use Sand tsunami and ''LOLBLITZ'' but 1 should know that Acid can dissolve sand.

While Gaara is using his sand technique's Katsuyu can shoot acid and thus dissolve any sand technique which will put Gaara at a disadvantage, considering the fact the battlefield will be all muddy, Gaara won't be able to use any Sand simply due to it being to heavy.

Gaara has never been shown to be overly inventive or intelligent. All of his fights are simply him trying to smack whoever he's fighting with sand and kill them by chasing them around and pummeling them. It could honestly be said that he never even thinks of flying unless it's absolutely necessary to chase the enemy around or for his life.
