How would they incorporate that in the story? Honestly, I wouldn't find it very interesting - I would read it, but it's not like it's something that absolutely has to happen in the story.
Also, wasn't it stated that she's just a normal girl? So no special bloodline or special family? It's not because her teammates are special with their bloodlines and heritage, that that means she should be special. The reason why Kakashi took her in his team is simply because she formed a team with Sasuke and Naruto and he found that in the end they did corporate well. If Hinata, Ino or Tenten even had been in the same team, they would have been taken in by Kakashi as well.
I can deal with her sacrificing herself in the end for Naruto or so - that could be made believable because she does have an affinity for medicine, but Slug Sage Mode (if such a thing exists) is already out of her reach. Sage mode requires a large amount of chakra reserve and she doesn't have that. She has great chakra control, but not a large chakra reserve and the latter is needed to at least be able to learn Sage mode.
