That wasn't her intention. She did not go to the Land of Iron specifically to make a fool of him. Are you all missing why she said what she did in the first place? She was going to tell him about everyone's decision, but couldn't bring that pain to him. She was actually protecting him.
And honestly, when was it implied that Lee, Kiba, Kakashi, or Yamato gave a crap about it? Weird looks on their faces? Yea they reacted, but they moved on almost as quickly. Kiba and Lee knew she was lying so they knew what she was up to. They could tell she was trying not to hurt him

And I can see why Kishi made Naruto tell her what he did. It was not, and isn't just yet, an appropriate time for him or her to be concerning themselves with love. In the future, when she's sure to say those 3 words, I'm sure it'll be much more believable. And her backing will probably be tougher than Hinata's because Naruto has done so much for her already. I mean, nobody can tell if she was lying when she said that she loved him. It's the Sasuke part. He was ready to believe her until she mentioned him.

Sakura for example is supposed to be very intelligent, yet she still wants someone who tried to kill her, and attempts to lie to one of her best friends to achieve an implausible goal.

Hinata wants to be more independent, but she thinks about nothing but Naruto while her country, her friends, her family is being slaughtered in a war. Not only that, but she jumped in front of an adversary she obviously couldn't beat, to save a guy she's obsessed with, thus complicating the fight and endangering everyone around them even more.

It's not really their fault - a story and a character doesn't write itself - but Kishimoto who seems to think most women/girls possess so little personal strength and logic it's borderline retarded, and only goals in life are men.

i haven't really thought about the female characters in the story. anyways, this thread made me do it. I do not have anything against Sakura, nor Hinata, neither am I cheering for either one of them. i could say, they are both kind a antipathetic for me, i don't know exactly why though.
Sakura feels kind a full of herself, as if she could do anything. it's true, she truly cares of her friends and does her best to protect them. she loves Sasuke and she really wants to save him, even if it means from his own self. anyhow, i think that does not give her right to act on her own. i'm not sure exactly how to call her, may be a bit conceited. well, that's her character and i can't blame her for that.
Hinata is the complete opposite - she could not do almost anything, she could hardly find strength in herself, even thought she might not be that weak. she loves Naruto, that's clear, but she has no faith in herself, she's really introvert and weak-willed, in my opinion. even if i take in mind her life up till now, i mean the clan heir stuff. that's just the type of person she is - timid. btw, when she jumped in to help Naruto in the fight with Pain, i'm sure she knew she was gonna die. she just didn't want to see the person whom she loves and always looked up to get killed right in front of her eyes. she knew well that probably nobody from the village except of Naruto could defeat Pain. for this, i admired her and i still do when i remember the moment.
each one of them has her pluses and weak points.
i can't call Sakura a completely selfish person, neither is she that much of a selfless character or a likable one, at least for me. :> wease:

I was thinking that exact same thing. All their shortcomings just show Kishimoto's lack of in-depth knowledge of females. Therefore, he seriously degrades them in his story. All of the important girls seem to be frivolous and let a man guide their actions. I can see how he "forgot Sakura." She's a girl, therefore he deemphasizes their role in battles. Keep her out of fighting by making her a medical ninja. Hm. That's sad really. Though, I still really like Sakura despite her mistakes and lacking feats compared to Naruto and Sasuke.

While some have made good points (about Sakura doing it to relieve Naruto from the promise he made her), I still don't like her. When she said all those things to Naruto and then hugged him, I got the feeling that she was jumping from one boy to the other. I mean she was 'in love' with Sasuke for years because he was cool, handsome, smart etc and Naruto was an annoying brat to her. Then when she sees that Sasuke isn't the perfect boy she imagined him to be, she drops him like a stone and then approaches Naruto (I can't remember if she said she loves him - my memory is a bit blurry about that part, because it has been a while since I last read those particular chapters).
A girl who gives up on a boy as soon as he shows he isn't the perfect person she imagined him to be, is a bit pathetic in my opinion. Naruto, who has had a Chidori shoved through his lung by his best friend and who has been training his ass off to catch up to Sasuke, still believes in his best friend when he didn't even like him in the beginning and a girl who claims to love him, gives up on. -_-
She may have tried to relieve Naruto from his burden but by doing it like that and by trying to kill Sasuke without telling Naruto about it, she didn't really succeed in her attempt. Plus I found it low of her that she didn't tell Naruto she was going after Sasuke. He had the right to know after all.
So yeah, I don't like Sakura at all. While she isn't a weak girl, her character isn't really likeable in my opinion.

I dearly hope that Kishimoto-sensei isn't going to let Naruto end up with Sakura. That would just ruin the serie for me. And I wouldn't go as far as to say that Sasuke is insane. Besides if someone like Sasuke had really existed and had acted like that, I wouldn't have given up on him. If I considered him as my best friend, I would support him and try to help him heal, not giving up on him because he isn't perfect anymore. Maybe I'm insane, but best friends are there for each other - and if one of the two is acting stupid (or acting like Sasuke does now - which is completely understandable in my opinion, but that's a whole other subject), then it's the task of the other to smack some sense in him.
So I'm sorry, but Sakura doesn't deserve my respect. She may be good in healing and fighting, I give her that, but the way she handled the whole Naruto, Sasuke thing ... That completely ruined her for me.

Actually most people hate Sakura because they think she is weak and useless. Hinata is nothing close to being the best heroine but people seem to like her more because she actually tries even though she's not up to the task while Sakura will just stand there kunai in hand. I never really cared about pairings in Naruto but if one pairing shouldn't happen right now its NaruSaku because of the lie Sakura told. If someone were to lie to me like that just to make me "feel" better (Naruto would have eventually found out that Sakura still likes Sasuke) I would be extremely discouraged to pursue a relationship with them. That moment was the most annoying moment in the history of Naruto to me.

It's a mistake Kishimoto put in for a reason. I'm sure Sakura has learned from that mistake when Naruto told her she was lying to herself, and she is probably going to find a way to fix it. She's smarter than Naruto that's for sure. And despite that mistake, they still carry on as though it never happened. Naruto could see that she was relieving that burden when he found out what she was really up to. That showed him that she is striving to ease his pain.
She said it as a ploy that much was true, but I think she has more than enough reasons to convince him the next time she's ready to say it. Since Part I he's gone so far for her and she knows this. He puts his life on the line to keep her happy/safe and if she really wanted to, she could convince him. He cares for her that much is certain. He practically goes further for her than he does for Sasuke.

Yeah right... Part 1: Sakura: Tried to protect Naruto and Sasuke from the sound genins (chunin exam), fought Ino (draw), tried to fight Gaara (to protect Sasuke). Hinata: Fought Neji. Part 2 (current): Hinata: tried to fight Tobi (with her team and team 7) and fight 1 Pain body (main mission was to try and free Naruto from the chakra receiver pinning him down), fighting the white Zetsus (with Neji and other ninjas). Sakura: fought Kakashi (with Naruto, bell test), fought Sasori, his kazekage puppet (iron/magnetic element) and 100 puppets (main mission capture or kill), punch Sai and threaten him (Sai is was a root member and isn't a push over), tried to calm Naruto down (4 tails that beat Orochimaru), fought Sasuke (with team 7), tried to kill Sasuke (her feeling stopped her but she had the balls to try it and alone at that, knocked out Kiba, Lee and Sai), Confessed her true feelings to Naruto (its not easy for everyone, read comment below for proof she does love him), Beat the white Zetsus that tried to kill her in the medic tent.

I always disliked sakura in naruto part 1, but when shippuden came out i was like ok maybe she isnt so bad. She started to become more useful and was nicer to naruto, and I started actually thinking that her and naruto should be together at the end. Then she did that fake I love you crap. I dont care what she does anymore I officially hope Naruto and Hinata get together. Sakura always thought Naruto didnt deserve her and that she loved Sasuke, but it is Sakura that dosent deserve Naruto.

Most people want to ignore all the obvious signs Sai, Yamato, and even Sakura herself throw out there because IF Sakura didn't love Naruto back, that'd make it all the easier for them to assume he's going to get with Hinata.. A character he spends no leisure time with. :shrug:
