That's probably the only reason he said she was lying to herself. To assume her feelings are false is where many people go wrong. I really like that Hinata tries her best. I do. But if she actually won, that'd say a lot. I just hate when people call her more useful than Sakura. That is an absolute lie. Sakura has earned her stripes and is still adding more.
I wish Hinata was more than just an infatuation with Naruto. That'd make her so much more believable. I like her in some ways, but she is much less believable than Sakura (compared to real women). She cried behind Saskue because she realized she would never be able to kill him. That was justified. She cried at Naruto's transformation by the Tenchi Bridge because she knew he was in pain. She cried when Sasuke left because he is a dear friend. It's not like she cries for absolutely no reason. And to turn around and stand up in major battles without shedding a tear says she isn't a blubbering baby. When she cries, it shows there is more to her than just her strength. And what woman wouldn't cry like she does in her position?

I don't even like the guy Naruto but what Sakura did was toatlly uncalled for, adding her history of abuse towards him and you get a witch!

There's a difference. Naruto and Hinata have minimal interactions and not much going for them while Naruto and Sakura are constantly together be it in battle, on a mission, eating ramen, in the hospital, going for a walk in the village, in the movies (in movie 1 and the movies since the first one), and even when they're apart. The fact that she screamed for him when the village was destroyed shows she believes in him, and more importantly, thinks about him. Of all the people in the world, she called out for Naruto. And even as she rushed in his direction during this war, she was thinking of him and ways she could make his burdens less heavy. In Naruto's case, the only time he thinks about Hinata is when he's thinking of all his other friends at the same time.
Naruto would venture in Sakura's direction over Hinata at this point.

I mean, if you had some girl who liked you but there was someone you like, I'm sure you'd go for the one you know a lot about, have a lot of common interests with, share a history with, have been out to eat with, and most importantly can share a laugh with. Naruto doesn't have that with Hinata. It's that simple. She's not a challenge for him. Guys go for the girl they can feel they earned a date with, not someone who is practically begging them. If they go for the beggar, then they're probably desperate.
