He's kinda a big deal so you need to go back a few chapters and read up on him 467

He is also known as Rikuudo Sennin

ok so i went back and read up on him and i remember i think what i was asking is what did the 9 tails mean when he was in the cage and saying something along the lines of this is the sage of the 6 paths. what did he mean by that was it a jutsu or a seal from the sage?

that the seal that Naruto used was the same one as the Sage of 6 Paths used on him in the past.

i have read it thru twice just when i read i dont retain anything i read except for a few things here and there. but after i went back and read the few chapters again i was like oh yea i remember now. but what i was really asking about was the seal that the 9 tail recognized that Ironreaver7 answered.
