"Vanish in the void between Yin and Yang."

Name: Ryōgi Shiki
Nickname: Avatar of the Root
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Clan: Uchiha
Alignment: True Neutral

Appearance

Shiki’s chosen attire is a flowing, white kimono with a floral-patterned sash, allowing her to easily secure her katana which sits sheathed on her left hip. She somewhat unkempt hair that barely reaches her shoulders, creating a slight contrast to the similarly dressed geisha which she desired to be in her youth, who style their hair in unique ways. Occasionally, she will wear a larger, more loose kimono. She has gentle, grey eyes which don’t indicate any particular emotion or expression, though naturally adopting the signature crimson color of the clan's Dōjutsu when activated, and a unique pattern once she awakens the 'Mystic Eyes'. She carries herself with an air of elegance, only making precise, efficient movements when she must, without any wasted energy or thought.

Personality

Shiki’s persona can be perceived as that of a calm and understanding older sister. One may think that she’s detached from worldly affairs, but she simply has no sense of crisis. For her, everything is taken in as “a view across the glass.” She denies the idea of human nature as being fundamentally good, due to her past actions and witnessing the atrocities committed by others. Though she acknowledges the inherently flawed and destructive nature of people, she still stands by them and encourages them to bring out the best in themselves and others. Though her aspect is close to the Merciful Bodhisattva, her underlying personality is that of a meanie, an Impish Bodhisattva.

Fire Release

As a child of the Uchiha, Shiki was taught in the ways of Fire Release. Though her parents, the sole members of the Ryōgi family, were the ones responsible for her growth and development as a person happening away from the clan, they still insisted that she be taught in their signature ability. Due to extensive training, she is able to use all Fire Release techniques with only a single seal, if required, and is capable of using the Great Fireball Shower technique.

Increased Speed

Honing Shiki's body was of great importance to her parents, as they did not believe that the sum total of a ninja's value rested solely in their skill with the elements. As a result of her great physical training, Shiki's physical attributes are superior to the average ninja, her base speed being two levels higher than those of her rank. This skill enhances the lethality of her swordplay, as well as her Mystic Eyes.

Advanced Kenjutsu

The art of the sword is Shiki's preferred method of combat, and the skill she practiced the most. While she is adept with most forms of bladed weaponry, she excels with the sword. Her skill is such that she became capable of learning the techniques of the samurai; Iaidō. She employs the techniques and skills of both Kenjutsu and Iaidō in battles, making her versatile and unpredictable.

Lifeline (Health)

Shiki's rigorous physical conditioning in her youth has granted her greater vitality, meaning that she can take more punishment in combat without succumbing. Use of her Mystic Eyes has also necessitated that she become more resilient. As a result, she has a higher base health than those of her rank (+25% / 40HP).

Shiki grew up in the capital city of Chungsu in the Hanguri Freehold, away from the rest of her Uchiha brethren. This was an insistence of her parents to the then-head of the clan, as they did not wish for the harshness of life that inevitably befell most ninja to claim their daughter. The clan's head granted their request, and the pair left to seek out a peaceful life, where they could raise their child in peace. Her childhood was far less demanding than that of her Uchiha peers, whom she never knew, and she began to learn the skills of a ninja at a far later age than that of most. Even then, her knowledge and skill was basic. It was only taught in order for her to defend herself, never to turn her into a soldier, as she would have been under the Uchiha.

Shiki's parents sent her to a private school, one with a curriculum revolving around civilian life, so that she would have the means to live out an ordinary life. Her hobbies were also fairly ordinary, among them being the harp, gardening, calligraphy, dancing, and cooking. She took additional lessons in swordsmanship, but she never viewed it as a way of combat, instead viewing it as exercise, something to do aside from her other, more relaxing hobbies. Shiki regularly performed well at school, becoming an honors student. Prior to her enrollment, she met a boy named Mikiya Kokutō, but upon meeting him again at school, she claims not to remember him.

On September during the last day of her school's vacation, Shiki finds herself in an alley in the presence of a fresh corpse. She gazes at the corpse in awe of the blood and carnage as if she were in a trance. She would then use her fingers to touch and play with the blood spilled on the pavement, putting and tracing it on her lips, incidentally making it her first ever use of a "lipstick." Just as summer vacation ends, a new semester of their high school begins. Shiki is prompted to buy herself a red leather jacket for the coming winter season in response to Mikiya's prodding about her insistence on simply wearing extra clothing on top of her kimono even during winter.

Just as autumn begins, Shiki and Mikiya would later go on to spend their lunchtimes on one of the school building's rooftops, with the two developing a casual relationship. On one occasion, Mikiya muses about a recent murder that occurred on the last day of summer vacation during one of their lunchtime conversations. Shiki finds herself wondering about the incident in relation to the corpse she saw on the last day of summer vacation, despite outwardly expressing disgust on the matter as a topic of conversation during meal time.

Within the same month, Akitaka warns Shiki of four recent murders, including the first one, just as each successive incident becomes widely known to the general public. Due to the curfew enforced by the police in lieu of the recent murders, Shiki is unable to embark on her nightly strolls that she so often loves to do. With the rising prevalence and media coverage of the murders, all students in Shiki's school were told to go home early upon being dismissed from their classes. Students were also forbidden from attending extracurricular activities. Mikiya learns from his cousin Daisuke Akimi, a police investigator, that the murderer is most likely from his school. While the suspicion initially turns to Shiki, Mikiya does not want to believe it, even though she has an injury consistent with Daisuke's investigation.

SHIKI arranges a meeting with Mikiya, explaining her condition to him and surprising him with the male persona's, SHIKI's, outgoing and cheerful nature, which is drastically different from the female persona's, Shiki's, reserved and quiet demeanor. SHIKI explains the division between the two personalities, and mentions that the two have been out of sync lately. After the meeting, Mikiya goes to Shiki's home, only to find her standing in front of a headless corpse, blood still spurting from the neck. Splattered in blood, Shiki utters:

"Be careful Kokutou-kun.. A terrible premonition can bring about a terrible reality."

Mikiya is questioned by the police regarding the incident, but he maintains that he did not see Shiki there and refuses to give any further information, even to Daisuke. Mikiya then regularly camps out in the bamboo grove outside Shiki's home in an effort to 'prevent' her from committing any more murders. After a while of this, Shiki confronts him with a knife and chases him through the grove and out onto the street, pinning him down with the knife to his throat. When she asks him to say something, all Mikiya can reply with is: "I do not want to die." To which Shiki warmly smiles and replies: "I want to kill you."

When she raises her knife and moves to stab him, she finds she's unable to do so. Quite suddenly, she's attacked by Araya. A brief fight between the two ensues, but after Araya is wounded by Shiki, he notes that she's not fighting to kill but rather so she can flee. He allows her to do so, and Mikiya chases after her. Once he manages to catch her, she confesses to him that both Shiki and SHIKI like him, with this being the only other thing that SHIKI has known besides murder. As such, she feels that since he won't remove himself from her life, she will remove herself from his.

Fleeing to the end of the street, she throws herself in front of a passing car in an attempt to commit suicide. She fails in the sense that SHIKI dies in her place, to allow her to remain with Mikiya.

Following her attempted suicide, Shiki finds herself floating in absolute nothingness, or 「 」. The Root. She remains in this state for two years, realizing that she is both dead and still alive. During this time, her body is in a coma where she is visited by her family and Mikiya. When she awakens, her Mystic Eyes are active, and she attempts to tear her eyes out, causing the other doctors to bandage her eyes. She refuses to talk to her family or the doctors tending to her, causing them to misdiagnose her with aphasia. She eventually begins to receive daily visits from Aozaki Tōko, posing as a speech instructor. She explains the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception and offers to teach Shiki how to control the Eyes, but Shiki refuses. The night before her release, she is attacked by a number of individuals attempting to take her eyes, but she dispatches them with the help of Tōko, as well as her eyes. Shiki accepts Tōko's offer to train her, and begins to work under her after her release.

Other Information

Mystic Eyes: Shiki is a wielder of a unique Dōjutsu known as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. These eyes allow Shiki to access and manipulate the dimension known as the Root, an isolated plane of existence filled with nothing but azure energy. This energy is capable of altering the flow of time to varying extents, and for different effects, allowing Shiki to traverse the battlefield and the world in virtually any way she pleases.

Type: Supplementary / Offensive / Defensive
Rank: F
Range: N/A (Short – Long)
Chakra: 50 (-20 per turn)
Damage: N/A ( -15 per use )
Description: The Mystic Eyes of Death Perception is a unique Mangekyō ability possessed by Ryōgi Shiki, allowing her to access an alternate dimension known as ‘The Root’. It’s a completely empty space, with only a mass of spiraling, azure energy in the distance. By harnessing the Root’s energy, Shiki is capable of manipulating the flow of time to various extents, resulting in different effects. Each eye can utilise different forms of this power, and the unique nature of the Root’s energy means that it is neutral to any and all elements.

(Kara no Kyōkai) – Boundary of Emptiness: The left eye allows Shiki to manifest the Root’s energy to create non-damaging portals leading in and out of the Root, which can be used for various purposes. In order to transport objects possessing a rank, the portal(s) must be at least equal rank, and the creation of more than one portal splits the rank equally between the total number of portals. Portals drawing in an opponent must be created at least 5 meters away (unless Shiki is within this range). Portals can be a maximum of 5x5 meters and a minimum of 1x1, and all exhibit a wormhole-like effect, sucking anything within 2 meters into it. These portals can only be dispelled by Shiki herself, or in the case of a portal(s) possessing a lower rank than an object or technique that it attempts to absorb. Portals can transport any number of techniques, objects or opponents, so long as the rank of the portal in question is at least equal to the rank of the strongest object/technique. Shiki can also use these portals on herself though these can simply be opened on her person. Portals can also be used outside of battle for direct travel between any landmark (following standard travel and interception rules).

(Akarui Sora) – Cloud Shine: The right eye allows Shiki to use the Root’s energy on herself by filling her body with it. By increasing the rate at which time flows within herself, all bodily functions are carried out much more quickly as a result, effectively increasing her movement speed. Once initiated, the ability takes immediate effect, giving it great utility in battle. When activated, Shiki can increase her current speed by any amount up to a maximum of 4x. Upon deactivation of the Cloud Shine, Shiki will suffer a deduction proportionate to the level of the increase, and will last for a duration equivalent to that which the ability was kept active for. For increases less than or equal to 2x, Shiki's speed will be reduced to 2 levels below base speed. For increases less than or equal to 3x, Shiki's speed will be reduced to 3 levels below base speed. For increases less than or equal to 4x, Shiki's speed will be reduced to 4 levels below base speed. These deductions don't stack, meaning that only the lowest restriction will apply for any given usage, e.g. increasing speed by 2x will only incur the base speed minus 3 level reduction, not the base speed minus 4 level reduction. Additionally, only speed deductions from the most recent activation of the Cloud Shine will apply. The Cloud Shine counts as an S-Rank ability, and must be sustained by expending 15 chakra points per turn, every turn which it's active.

Note: Each usage of the Mystic Eyes’ abilities above B-Rank will reduce the duration of its activation by a single turn
Note: Can only be used a total of 6 times. Each eye's ability can be used no more than 4 times individually. Each usage reduces the duration of MS by one turn.
Note: After the six uses of either effect, the user's eye will begin to bleed from the strain and the pain causes by the use of his MS, causing his sharingan deactivate, and must wait 1 full turn before reactivating his MS.
Note: Use of the portal application for travel purposes outside battles does not require the Mystic Eyes to be activated, but follows the costs and conditions of use otherwise.

Bounded Field: Shiki is a user of the sealing arts, incorporating its unique capabilities into her techniques and fighting styles to gain the edge over an opponent. The sword she carries is marked with a seal that allows her to wield it without need for direct contact. Combined with her mastery over the elements of Lightning and Fire, she is granted access to Mystic Fire, a special type of flame that possesses neutrality to all elements, and exhibits unique qualities due to the incorporation of Fūinjutsu. She has the Cygnus seal on her left arm which reads 'Repository', and is connected to the usage of Mystic Fire.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: N/A (Short – Long)
Chakra: 15
Damage: N/A
Description: The Oathbound Insignia is a seal with supplementary purpose, and is designed to be utilised in tandem with one’s weapons or tools. The seal can be placed on any piece of equipment or item of the user’s, or even ones they do not own, provided they make physical contact with said object. Once placed, the seal creates an invisible, form-fitting barrier on the object which is able to exert directional force and pressure on it, similarly to that of Infinite Embraces. This allows for the weapon to be controlled in a manner visually similar to that of the Lightning Blades Levitation, but through manipulation of a barrier, rather than an infusion of elemental chakra. This saves the user the trouble of having to physically reach for their weapon, and makes retrieval from a holster or from afar much easier. The user possesses total control over the behaviour of movement through the barrier, able to freely manipulate a marked object as they see fit. The speed at which a marked object can move via the barrier is 1.5x the user’s base speed at maximum, and always moves at this speed unless otherwise stated, allowing for swift recovery of the object. The user is able to mark their weapons and tools, but it must be stated in the user’s biography, otherwise one must manually place the seals during battle or when the situation allows. Only three objects can be marked at any given time, living targets cannot have this seal applied to them.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: 30
Damage: N/A
Description: This technique employs a tag seal with the word ‘Repository’ inscribed on it and placed somewhere on the user’s body or on a weapon; in the case of a weapon the weapon must remain in contact with the user at all times. The seal can either be placed on the user’s biography and stated or placed during travel or battle, counting as a move. Cygnus Loop is a technique which utilizes Fūinjutsu’s ability to seal infinite quantities of various objects within a vessel, in this case the Cygnus seal. This acts as an effect chakra storage unit and can store infinite quantities of chakra absorbed and drained from another target through two methods. The first method passively allows the seal to link itself to the user’s absorptive techniques, such as the Multiple Infinite Embraces. Typically the Embraces will drain chakra and immediately deposit it in the user’s body; with the Cygnus seal this chakra is instead deposited in the seal itself. The second method is through the seal’s unique relationship with Mystic Fire Release and Fūinjutsu allowing the user to utilize Ultraviolet Radiance, a technique based on the Cygnus seal. Regardless of the application used when chakra is drained from an opponent or their techniques the chakra will be deposited within the seal. In essence Cygnus Loop acts as a bank and middleman. When chakra is stored in the seal the chakra is ‘purified’ within the seal. This effectively converts stolen chakra back into raw chakra. For example, should the user absorb Fire chakra and store it within the seal it will be converted into stored chakra and made readily available for the user to use for a future technique. Alternatively stored chakra can be freely absorbed into the user’s body to replenish their reserves. The Cygnus seal itself is an A-Rank seal and is fortified as such due to its relationship and infusion of Mystic Fire.

Paradox Spiral: Shiki wields an element known as Osmium, which is characterised by the small, granular form it takes by manipulating one's Earth, Fire, and Wind chakra natures in tandem. The grains composing the element are extremely sharp and durable, and can be manipulated individually or collectively, allowing for a wide range of uses. Shiki carries a small amount of the element in a small gourd secured to her hip, and can be wielded on demand in emergency cases.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: N/A
Range: N/A (Short)
Chakra: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description: Unfinal Shapes is a basic, supplementary application of Osmium combined with Fūin, designed to enhance its utility to mimic the usage of Sand Ninjutsu by Gaara. By having the element itself pre-made, and kept stored in a gourd or container of some kind, it is carried on hand by the user. The element carries a small amount of the user’s chakra sealed inside it via Fūinjutsu, which can be unlocked simply by flushing it with more of their chakra. In this manner, the user is capable of performing any Osmium technique using this premade reserve of the element. However, this can only be done once per turn, regardless of the rank of the technique used, and costs a move. Should they choose, the user can use that same source of Osmium for another Osmium technique, and it will behave according to its new rank/power, simply requiring that the user expend the stated amount of chakra, as if they were using the technique normally. Use of Unfinal Shapes requires that it be posted in the user’s bio, and at the start of battle.
