A wall is a good defense but blocks your eyesight; moving out of the way of a technique may be more cost effective but leaves you open to counter attacks and landing exploits. Choose your defenses wisely in each and every situation and capitalize as much as you can on each one.

Save the coding of your bios somewhere in a PM, social group, word document on your PC or somewhere else in the case you are expecting it to use it again sometime. The codings of bios that are in the Dropped/Declined section can not be reclaimed by regular members, so if you want to be save, save it before you drop the bio.

Sometimes, there is simply no defense possible for an attack. However, accepting that it will hit you and allowing it to hit you may not always mean your defeat. There are many ways to survive many simple attacks. And you only need to be alive to be able to make a move...

You fight to win but you should never be afraid to lose. Fear brings about a demeanor in a fight that will only showcase your shortcomings and eventually, your own mistakes. If you lose, you should lose with a disposition to learn something instead of one that will make you lash out.

When you apply to something (permission, tournaments, prizes, events, etc) be sure that you read the requirements in detail. It saves a lot of time and prevents your dissapointment. Be sure that you fill all requirements before applying. This is valid for anything in the RP system. You can only make something, apply to something, use something, etc if you fill the correct requirements for it.

For example: if you haven't finished A-Rank Earth training, you cannot submit an A-Rank Earth Custom. If you aren't Kage Rank, you cannot have an Uchiha Madara bio so, logically, you cannot apply for permission for one until you are Kage Rank.

Range in the RP is variable and always takes into account logic and manga-context into consideration. This said, we use Short, Mid and Long ranges. Short encompasses a sphere of the area up to 5 meters around you. Mid range encompasses the distance from 5 to 15 meters around you. Finally, Long range encompasses the area beyond the 15 meter mark, its limits bound by the technique itself as well as logic and context. If a technique states "Short-Mid" it means its effective range is within a 15 meter radius of the user. If a technique says "Mid" then it means its effective range is between 5 and 15 meters. A technique that states "Long" normally cannot be used in any range other than at least 15 meters away from the user.

In a technique that produces more than one projectile, its overall power will be divided equally between each projectile. For example, an S-Rank technique that produces two projectiles will produce 2 A-Rank projectiles. For techniques that affect a large area with multiple instances (like a forest of stone spikes), you need to defend from the technique as a whole; its not that each spike has the power of the technique, its that the technique as a whole has said power and needs to be countered. An A-Rank forest that spans 50 meters all around you will need to be defended from with something that can counter that A-Rank strength, even if only in your immediate area. You don't divide the power of that technique between each single branch of wood.

When filling in your bio template; in the 'Looks' - section you can choose to describe your looks, post a picture, do both or simply refer to the other pictures that are posted in your bio. All of them are perfectly legit ways to give an impression of how you look, you can't however refer to pictures that are outside your bio (avatar, signature, profile pic...) as those are often changed.

The element you choose to start with falls upon personal preference. However, there are some bios/clans that are bound to some elements. For example, the Uchiha are bound to the Fire element, be it as a secondary nature or a primary one; it will always be one of its specialties. Still, if your bio isn't bound to any element from the get go, choose one that is versatile enough to allow you to learn the basics of battle. This means an element that allows you offensive moves but also defensive ones, while being simple to use and containing a variety of techniques, from escape-like techniques, to large attacking projectiles to supplementary ones. Still, in the end it has all to do with your personal preference and your feel.

Making a Custom Jutsu, Fighting Style, Element, Clan or Summon shouldn't be a trivial thing. Remember that once approved, it stays yours forever. No one else will be able to do it or copy it. It can also only be shared a limited amount of times. So by default, you need to be very conscious of what you submit. And its also your duty to develop it to the fullest of your abilities, specially when we talk about fighting styles and elements. If you make an incomplete work and leave NB for one reason or another, that work will be incomplete. More so, others that might have learned it will not be able to progress with it and, since they can't be dropped from the skill, element, technique, etc, they are bound to your incomplete work as well. Think carefully when making something or teaching it to someone. Its a great responsability that affects the entire RP now and in the future.

Never forget that the RPG of Narutobase.net is still a section of the Forums. Despite having many unique rules, everything in it is still bound by the Global Rules of the Forum and anything punishment given as a result of breaking the rules might also have consequences on aspects of your RPG. For example, if you are banned, any custom technique, bio, battle test, training etc might be declined, dropped, failed, etc due to being banned. If you are on detention, by default, you cannot submit customs or bios, though you can still RP with what you have and you can still be trained. If you are silenced, nothing you post can be seen on the forums so, by default, you cannot participate in anything. Additionally, don't forget that you cannot use alts to bypass punishments, regardless of what they are. For example, if you are banned from a thread, you cannot use an alt to keep posting on that thread.

If you have a custom bio with a Cursed Mark, you are free to describe a unique and custom full transformation for it in your bio (in the "Other" section preferably, next to the CM note though you can also describe it in "Looks"). Basically, since all CM activations were unique and different between individuals, if you have a custom bio with a CM you can also patent your own unique transformation. This is, however, purely aesthetic. The abilities you'll gain are those of the CM you have and its full transformation. But you can have a unique look which might go well with your bio and your own way of rping.

When there are RP mod applications and you send in an app, be sure to show some real understanding of how the RP functions in depth with a limited amount of words. It came to my attention during the last applications that the overall quality of the apps was rather low, including those of many veteran RPers who seemed to have had an attitude of that the apps are nothing more than a formality and that the RP staff already knows you. Always write your app based on the assumption that it's checked by someone who you do not know and doesn't know you.

CFS, CE and CC are three different things, but it happens frequently that people mix them up, especially in the CE Bureau. With CFS you create nothing new in the sense that the skill or skills your style is based on, are accessible in theory by anyone who fits the requirements, you merely use these skills in such a way it becomes a 'style' or in other words it's technique. With CE on the other hand you create a completely new type of elemental chakra based mostly, but not always, on the 5 basic elements. This chakra has inherent a limited set of strongly interrelated characteristics and both these characteristics as the creation of the chakra have to be supported by strong arguments. In essence CE are quite limited concept wise by their very nature. CC are the same as CE in that both of them create something completely new, the difference however is that CC are practically complete custom abilities that cover a broad spectrum of possibilities. The abilities do not have to be justified (much) either, they just have to be reasonable and acceptable. They are also different in that CC don't have a set of interrelated characteristics, but a set of interrelated abilities. To demonstrate this with an example: covering your fists with fire and use them in a boxing style would be a CFS. Creating a completely new type of fire would be a CE and a CC then would be that you can eat fire as nourishment, be immune to fire, be able to swim through magma, have heat-sensing abilities and have fire that can stick itself to objects like glue.

When you have very specific RP questions and you want to ask an RP mod about them, always try to ask it to the mod who is most knowledgable about the matter as there are many guidelines that are being followed in practice, but aren't anywhere officially written down. So only the persons who follow them, know them the best. For example if you have a question related to CJ, ask a CJ mod; for a question related to the NW, ask a NW mod etc.

When traveling and arriving at a new landmark, be sure to read both the first post and posts before your own before you make one. Events that occur on that landmark have the potential to alter the terrain and this can be reflected in the first post to show this, so be sure to read and make your RP accordingly.

When you are researching a potential CE and the first things you come across are chemical formulas, the potential of it immediately drops because these are most of the time substances that do not exist in nature or only exist inside of other substances and/or connected with them. They do not exist independently and not in large quantities, they can only be obtained by extraction and/or produced in a lab, both scenarios that are very difficult to mimic with a CE. The results are also almost always very small quantities that look like white powder. By now there have been several CE submitted that visually look nearly the same.

Regularly check the Ninja World section for the latest RP events, even if you are not in a village as the nature and intended participants vary from even to event. So is it possible that an entire village is required to be able to participate in one event, but in another that everyone individually, villager or not, is allowed.

When replying to a test that serves to acertain your knowledge in a given or various areas, don't copy paste your replies from wikipedia. Normally, the test has a note saying something along the lines of "in your own words" which is pretty clear. The point of a test is to acertain your knowledge on something, not your ability to use Google. This includes Sensei Tests, Sage Missions, Training Replies, Medical Training, etc.
