Yea he played around with him That sneak attack slash was deadly an cuz of that Byakuya really had nothing left that's why once ichigo ripped the mask off he just put all he had left into one attack,that hollow ichigo was stronger I guess but if not for that sneak attack Byakuya would have put up more of a fight..an yea ichigo uses no tactics he just fights straight up..an no gin did not get stronger he just did not use that one technique..ichigo came at gin the wrong way close rage fighting against bankai gin is suicide.
