People really need to stop claiming that Rock lee is an average ninja. When in fact his body is made for taijutsu. What I mean is that no Rock lee is not an average ninja who simply got stronger by training.. The dude is a freaking genius in taijutsu.

Most of you will say he is a "genius of hardwork".. while that is true. Kakashi however, disagrees.

Kakashi's statement is that "This isn't about Hardwork, that kid.. is a genius"

Hell the dude was born with natural stamina its pretty obvious.

Other geniuses argument:

People will try to put Kakashi's statement down by saying "he meant he can use the gates and so on." But in the end he got called a genius did he not?


Uchiha like Sasuke are geniuses due to their usage of the sharingan. Madara was a genius , even those geniuses had to work hard. Instead like Rock lee who had to train his body, those others had to train their techniques and so on. I mean hell Hashirama and Madara fought each other (when training) till they couldn't stand anymore. Is that not hardwork? I mean are there people who believe that Hashirama was simply born with Mokuton abilities and able to caste them, when there had been no other mokuton user in Naruto history. Of course not, he had to train.

Neji was got called a genius because of the byakugan. But its also a manga fact that he worked and trained his ass off for that byakugan to get to where he is. He didn't magically become a "Genius".

Conclusion:

So I don't get why people try to make Rock Lee an exception, with all the "he worked his ass off and wasn't born a genius", when you have the strongest jounin of Konoha saying the guy is a genius whether the hardwork or not. The dude's body is meant for Taijutsu. You can't deny it....

Rock Lee's focus is on Taijutsu, hence he had to go through all the exercises. But for what? To unlock the potential of his body.

PS: Don't get mad or hurt about the post, I simply wanted to give out my opinion on Rock Lee.

Well I don't like how people instantly put down characters they think don't deserve their power but I'd like other translations for that quote... it's a bit ambiguous. Am I wrong or was Rock Lee even below average in taijutsu before meeting Guy? He might just mean that Lee has legendary will (thus a genius of "hard work"), not just hours in the gym to back it up. If I had to make a graph it would be like: no effort < little effort < work < hard work < Rock Lee's fighting spirit

I won't say you're wrong because I didn't look up much info figuring it out but meh... I think Lee's whole character is supposed to revolve around training longer and harder than any other ninja (at least much harder than the average).

Hmm let me get back to you on the translation part.

No the conversation was about unlocking the gates. Something that is considered extremely hard. So he has the body for the gates, hence why "its not about the hard work".

EDIT: I think that is the VIZ translation, I looked up on MangaEden (uses *********** most of the times), they had the same translation.

I believe rock lee is the true embodiment of bruce lee. You train the bosy and mind hard enough you can become an ultimate weapon. We all can agree just hardwork doesn't get you everything in naruto and life. You also need that special something that sets you apart from the rest.I agree that lee was a genius that was yerning for something to challenge the mind and body amd he found it in taijutsu.

I don't know if oen could say he was truly born with a naturally physically amazing body. Obviously slightly, but I'd say nothing more than a starting athlete. He was no different from the other acedmy students when it came to taijutsu, see chapter 84.
All I'm saying is that yes, while his body is an excellent candidate for Taijutsu, give the same body to another average ninja and I doubt they're getting 5 gates in 1 year with a pre-pubescent body. The game-changer is Rock Lee's determination.

(Also, while I wholeheardetly agree the others you mentioned worked hard too (in some cases maybe more), being born with a Sharingan/Byagukan doesn't equate to being born a probable high-school athlete. Once again, not minimizing what other such as Madara and Neji did (in fact Neji is one of my faves too), but Rock Lee is clan-less and I'd say what he managed to accomplish is especially amazing for a normal guy with a body that has a bit of normal genetic stamina.

In addition, Rock Lee trained all day/night, as hard as he could- so much so he could run in his sleep and fight unconscious (one reason Drunken Fist is so dangerous). I'd say he ranks among others who worked hard to get strong, dare I say above most(/all) in his determination to improve.
