Rinnegan. Where does it truly come from?

The answer isn't as obvious as you may think...


Is it a Uchiha dojutsu? After all its the final evolution of the Sharingan and necessary to read all of the Uchiha tablet


A Senju trait? You can't access it without Senju DNA as first speculated.


Hagaromo's original eyes? After all he was the only one rightfully born with them.


Ashura's and Indra's potential? Then we later learned that it only comes from having some of Ashura's chakra and Indra's chakra


Did Kaguya create it? It seem she held the blueprint for the Rinnegan when she consumed the Shinju fruit


An Ootsusuki trait? Then we seen momoshiki with his own version

or

A trait of the Fruit? Anyone who eats the fruit will possess the original sharinnegan and create the blueprint for all other dojutsus

The Rinnegan isn't an Uchiha's Dojutsu. It's a Rikudou Power composed of entirely different chakra than the Sharingan is.

Even then, the Rinnegan isn't exclusive to an Indra Transmigrant as BZ sought after Asura Transmigrants as well to awaken the Rinnegan.

As for where it comes from? Likely the Chakra Fruit. Hagoromo inherited the Rinnegan from Kaguya who received her Chakra from the Chakra Fruit.

When Kaguya gave birth to Hagoromo, the Rinne Sharingan gene split into two genetic lines which he inherited; the Rinnegan and the Sharingan. Since it looks like he never had the Sharingan himself, it seems the more powerful dojutsu (RG) manifested, whilst the weaker Sharingan gene remained recessive/dormant until his son Indra inherited it.

The Rinne Sharingan was awakened by Kaguya when she ate the Chakra Fruit, and later shared possession when she fused herself with the Shinju, to form the Juubi.

Momoshiki's planet used to have its own Shinju, and since he's at least a century old, he's been around long enough for one to bear fruit.

Momoshiki ain't canon ;/ I think they gave him rinnegan so he can be strong enough to fight gokage and sasuke.
Anyways,he was looking for kyuubi,to absorb it's chakra and make a new fruit.He had rinnegan before absorbing it. Also madara and obito revived juubi without kurama and hachibi. It is possible that momoshiki collected enough chakra to activate rinnegan... I guess.

The Shinju fruit did exist on NV's planet; it's where Kaguya got hers.

There are many other trees, dotted around the universe; that was highlighted in Boruto: The Movie.
