If you hate him, why do you want to try and find him decent then?
Anyway, everyone has their own reasons for liking a character. I can't say why you have to like Sasuke (that would be like someone trying to convince me I should like Sakura). I can only say why I like him and why he is one of my two top favourite characters.
First of all, Naruto has his motto of not giving up, right? No matter what happens? That's something that Sasuke has in common with him. He never stated it out loud, but he refuses to give up as well. He was taunted by his brother, being told he would never be strong enough until he completely hated Itachi and told he could only defeat his older brother if he killed his best friend.
Sasuke could have gone for the "easy" way out and could have killed Naruto, but instead decided he would train and get stronger that way.
He barely got any encouragement of his father but he still refused to give up on his training, pushing himself to make sure he could make his father proud as well. (And contrarily to what some people assume, he trained hard to be at the level he is now)
Secondly, the fact that he seems the most realistic character of them all. Yes, he has thoughts of revenge and hatred. Yes, he was thinking of destroying the village. No, that doesn't make him good. But come on, how many people can honestly say they wouldn't think of revenge if they experienced the same pain Sasuke experienced? Would most people be okay with the knowledge that a council wiped out their entire clan and forced the one person they looked up to, to kill the clan?
Would most people be just like "Well, shit happens, I guess" and go on with their life?
Sasuke is most of the time realistic in his thoughts and reactions. What most people seem to forget - or just refuse to think about - is that Sasuke was just a small boy when his entire clan was killed by his own brother and who had to grow up with the thought that only hatred would make him able to revenge his family. If someone killed my entire family, I would want to take revenge as well (not saying I would actively take revenge, but I would consider it)
In that aspect, I find that Naruto lacks a bit of realism. He was considered a monster by almost the entire village and very few people were willing to talk to him like a normal human being. He should have resented the village, but instead accepts their hypocrisy when they are suddenly happy to have him when he saves their lives from Pein. It takes him nearly dying against a powerful enemy and saving the entire village from that enemy before they finally acknowledged him.
But we're talking about Sasuke and not Naruto.
I can understand why Sasuke acts the way he does. I don't approve of all his actions, but I can see why he would want to perform them. Like destroying the village. Is it right to take revenge on people that had nothing to do with the murder of the clan? No, that isn't right. It is, however, understandable if you consider the concept of "an eye for an eye". The council took away his entire clan, he wants to take away the entire village. That is his reasoning (well, not sure if he's still thinking about it)
Another thing I like about him, is the fact that he was one of the first who acknowledged Naruto for who he was and was even willing to admit that Naruto is his best friend. He never cared about the village's opinion of Naruto. He found him an idiot, because Naruto was being an idiot and considered him weak because at that time, Naruto wasn't putting any real effort in his training. But he never called him a monster, never blamed Naruto for something he didn't do.
While Sasuke may be influenced at times by what other people tell him (again, considering the lack of decent information, it's not surprising really), he's still able to form an opinion of his own about something. That's something a couple of characters had to learn later on in their lives.
I find Sasuke an intriguing character. He's not completely good, nor completely evil. He is in a grey area - depending on what he decides/gets to hear, he can go either way. He never fully enters the bad side and keeps hovering on that thin line between good and evil. That's what makes him so fascinating to me. Naruto for example, is completely good - no question about that. Orochimaru? Completely evil - again no question about that.
Sasuke? I can never answer that because he has potential for both.
So yeah, that's why he's one of my two top favourite characters. His whole personality is intruiging to me ^^
And yes, I know this is quite long - sorry ^^; I probably didn't convince you, but at least now you know why some like Sasuke LOL
