For the past few months (since naruto manga ended), I've been posting 100% of my threads in the naruto discussion. I've had some mixed responses from mods (some merely commenting on my actions, others infracting me and trashing all of my recent threads), however thats not what I'm here to talk about.

Narutobase is a small community now. Regardless of the registered users (and non registered users), the daily active members (role player nonwithstanding) is very VERY small. Gone are the days where general discussion would have a couple hundred people viewing it. Typically, every section besides naruto discussion has dwindled to the single digits. So save for the handful of people who view threads soley from the "recent threads" section, you will seldom get any views, let alone discussion on a topic.

I'm a member of a good few forums. The reason i come here rather than say, narutoforums (which if i'm being honest, has much better modding and is a better community overall) is because there aren't a crazy number of forum sections. My thoughts can get heard better. But now that our numbers are shrinking, several sections don't behoove long discussions. I haven't seen a non naruto related thread go beyond 1 page in a long time.

We really NEED to remove the various sections from narutobase. We just don't have the numbers. If you post something about art, you're not likely to get any comments. at all.

So i propose, we reduce our numerous sections to just 3. Naruto discussion (manga, anime, fanfiction, etc), Non-naruto discussion (other anime, tv, personal stories, erotic encounters, you get the idea, an all purpose non naruto section), and role playing.

Unfortunately, the single worst thing about this base is response from the powers that be. It is impossible to get any sort of formal response from anyone. Any news about the site. any info on the comings and goings. I mean sure, pm a mod, you get an answer, pm a gmod, you get an answer, you can usually even hear from admins, but admins usually still don't know about whats going on. Its difficult to know if your feedback is getting heard.

I want some response from YOU guys though. What do you think should be done about our member # problem and threads not getting viewed?

I disagree, it's fine how it is.

Edit:

If your thread is not being viewed/responded to, it could be simply that no one is interested in your topic. Titles also influence if people view your thread, then again I never saw it anyway being one of the people who just browser recent threads....

Naruto (or manga/anime in general) isn't everything we talk about, nor the only thing we want to talk about. Thus, I personally don't see the need to do so.

Why would I view your thread in Naruto discussion section if I'm banned from there.

The reason we have so many sections on NB is so people can talk about things other than Naruto, as well as to attract more people. Before the end of Naruto, NB was practically a Naruto forum with a MAC section that didn't have nearly as much attention as the Naruto section did. In the making of the other manga/anime sections and the like, it may attract more members. The number of sections issue is a two way street.

This.

Plus having many different sections keeps things organized which makes them easier to moderate.

Naruto Base is transitioning to a manga and anime forum for people with interest in different manga and anime to come along and discuss. This means that the forum will regrow as the transitioning occurs and that means there is no point in doing what you have suggested. Besides, it's completely fine the way it is. To me it looks like you're just making excuses because the amount of people that are "discussing naruto" - which is the entire purpose of the forum right now, aren't veiwing your threads. They simply aren't interested in your threads, there isn't any reason to post them in the wrong section, because if they are in the correct section, people with that interest will surely respond.

For example, right now lets look at the number of people viewing different sections. There is 1 person in fanclubs section, 3 in videos section, 2 in the writers section, 2 in the entire art hall, 18 in design hall. Meanwhile theres almost 300 in naruto discussion. Those other people NOT wanting to talk about naruto aren't getting their threads read. Simple because theres nobody viewing those forums. Its not a matter of "they aren't interested in those, so they don't view them", they aren't even SEEING those. You're telling me that someone doesn't want to hear an update about one of their favorite games? unless they're browsing the gaming section, they won't see it. You can restructure it differently than i had it, but you can STILL cut down on sections by a LOT. Look you can have a naruto section, a "other manga" section, a role playing section, and a non-anime discussion. I'm simply saying that the various non anime what so ever sections unite to garner more viewers.

If you want people to visit your threads name every thread: This is why Sakura is the best."
You'll get plenty of responses.

All you people commenting are only retorting how it affects you and you are mostly looking in the anime sections.

So let me give an anime specific response. The ENTIRE dragonball section has 50 threads. Fifty freaking threads. in the entirety of that section. So with the 38 people in the entire MAC section (only 38), hardly anyone will see any dbz threads. so if they didn' tbreak up mac into several sections and just made it one section, at least those 38 people would see a dbz thread. feel me? But my individual breakups don't have to be the ones we use, just SOMETHING to limit the MASSIVe empty sections here.

If you want people to visit your threads name every thread: This is why Sakura is the best."
You'll get plenty of responses.

I don't want to misrepresent myself. this isn't about my threads not getting viewed. This is about me not even BOTHERING to post to the "specific section" i need for a thread. For example, i've never used even the naruto subthreads. whenever i had a naruto thread, even if it has its own sub section, i still use the master naruot section. Why unencessarily restrict yourself.?

For the LONGEST time, my sig (and status) was "commenting on my thread = instant plus rep" and it got me MASSIVE threads. People comment anything for a rep. But it felt insincere. ITs not about view counts. Its aobut meaningful discussions

Look at another forum site. the league of legends board (i use this example because its HUGE). I don't even likeleague of legends (actully i consistently bash the game) but their forums are HUGE. and they have a section just called "general discussion". You can post any non league topics there.

I've seen normal ass threads consistently get thread pages in the hundreds of thousands.

Well this still is a Naruto forum so surely the majority of the community will come only to discuss Naruto.
You're telling me that someone doesn't want to hear an update about one of their favorite games? unless they're browsing the gaming section, they won't see it.
As I said before. Whatever it might be, they will get their updates elsewhere. The majority here simply come to discuss Naruto. Its highly up to then individual whether they want to explore other sections...

I guess it can happen, but there is still no point. The forum is slowly growing as the transition occurs and therefore more people with different interests and such will once again fill these sections up with activity.

If anything should be remove, it's the NDS. Lol But, I wouldn't remove it completely, merely into M.A.C Base. But, that's not up to me...

OT: You mustn't go into other sections all too often. While I agree NDS is probably the most active, other sections do get replies, just majority of the time they aren't troll-ish garbage which makes majority of the threads in NDS long.

Why would the staff members would even think about that? The way it is right now is fine, people just need to expand their animes/mangas library.

A terrible suggestion sir.

Why are you even comparing a forum that is related to one of the most popular games out there with an anime forum like NB?

I've seen normal ass threads consistently get thread pages in the hundreds of thousands.

People just want to be involved in the drama, they just want to see some fights between x fans with y fans, that's how humanity works nowadays in my eyes.

We are working on the project and site called Mangabase, as you have noticed small changes are being made from time to time for the sites to be merged together. Once the time is right the forum will be more and more focused on manga in general. Right now the forum is mainly Naruto oriented, and there is some Naruto novels coming out soon and we will see what that does to the community as well. Either way, we are doing our best to keep our members happy and interested, and we are trying hard to bring the latest news on both the Naruto front as other mangas on our mangasite.

And now to the next claim, about members. We have as many active registered members as we always had. The activity is about the same as it was before the manga ended. The difference being the manga release days, we do not have the spike no more that came cause of those days. And we do not have as many topics regarding naruto to discuss due to that there is no more chapters to discuss, other than past so naturally it will feel less in the Naruto related sections. This might change a bit with the novels coming out. But that is only a prediction we can make and assume.

We have many members that has different taste in whats fun and whats not. We have a whole heap of people that spends most of their time in the premium chat section. We have others that is only interested in GFX. And we have people that comes to this site to just read about others thoughts regarding Naruto of course. My point being that all the sections is used more or less, and there is no need to remove it. The people who is interested in Naruto will stay in the Naruto discussions sections. The RPers will mainly stay in the RP sections and so on. To remove the fun for one group won't make them join another section, it will most likely make them search for another website to fill their needs.

And last, I do reply to every PM I ever receive that needs to be responded. Of course I can miss one once in a while when it's overwhelming, but I can assure you that I will answer any question you have regarding the site. If it so is a bug or a suggestion you want to report or suggest. Many times we do not reveal all our future plans for obvious reasons, we like to keep it as a surprise rather than people starting to spread rumors.

Of course zise, you have at least responded to each of my messages, i mean of specifically regarding the future of the site etc. I remember when registration was down for like 8 months, many people wanted to know what the plans were regarding the open-ness of this site. And no answer really was made clear until registration just up and opened again.

I think i've given a sub par explanation of what i mean. Lets take an extreme. Lets say that in the naruto discussion, you had a "naruto uzumaki" section, then a "sasuke section" and a section for each single character. With all the necessarily voluminous sections, someone trying to make a thread about mizuki would probably not get a single response. Sure, some would just post that thread to the naruto section, but by that logic, you'd have someone not posting in the (most) correct section. Thinning out the sections was just one of several viable ideas. Another would actually be to ADD some sections that are less specific. For example, the art section, the writing section, and all those other ones have literally single digit viewership. So if you added a larger category and didn't penalize people who posted in a slightly less appropriate section, then you could get more people seeing and experiencing their work. So for example if you just had a section along the lines of "Member submissions" that was all encompassing. Now that we're on the same page, back to my main point. Adding a "non naruto" (or non manga if you guys are transitioning) section would allow people to post and get a decent amount of responses.

My point is, the VAST sections can be too arbitrary.

That section is called chatterbox. Regarding the registrations that was closed back it was announced that it were to happen. And we had no idea when we would open it again, and each time it was asked.. That's what we answered. However now it's open, so that's in the past.
