I think you should remove the -rep function. The reason for this is because when sometimes you -rep someone, they'll -rep you back for no reason.
This week I just -rep'd someone for the 1st time because I didn't like his post. Guess what he does? He picks any random post of mine on the same thread and -rep's me for no valid reasons,
Theres no point in the -rep function
Some changes are made in the rep system today seeing the complaints:
Now the rep power will increase at 2000 per post rather than 1000. So all of you will see a decrease in your total rep power as well as negative rep power from now on.
Also there is a cap on maximum rep power set at 50. So other than admins no one can have a rep power higher than that. That will also limit the negative rep power.
This change was made seeing the repping games and rep abuse cases recently. Other than that you can report in case of genuine rep abuse.
When reporting, please remember that just like people can give you positive rep they are allowed to neg rep if they don't find your post up to the mark. How ever if it is being used to troll, harass or other malicious intentions and your post was genuine one then only it may be classed as rep abuse.

No..That seems fair enough. But one question does that change every time you gain 1,000 rep points you get a increase of one rep point added to your total rep giving power.
So, does it now also take 2,000 rep points to gain a 1 point altering your total rep power?
Hmm... that seems fair. But for some reason... I think that not much will change.

I honestly have to say I agree with removing the reputation system in it's entirety. Sure what Sanzen says is true, but that's kind of the point of rep tbh, to let others know of how good of a member you are to the community. You get trolls and such who get a lot of reputation for posting random images of things they think are funny, but are just unintelligent. Yet someone who makes posts of decent quality won't get anything because it's too long and the community won't read it. It would be far better to base your assumptions of people based on the quality of their posts, not how many green bars they have on their profile. Then Rep should be removed altogether.
If there is +rep then it's only right to have -rep. Besides, don't think it'll be removed simply because you got neg repped.

My point in the matter is that people use reputation to judge others, and it shouldn't be like that.
