Religion is only good for peace on a small and typically personal scale. It can bring inner peace to an individual but for something that promotes pacifism, you're right, it does tend to brew a lot of hatred.
It's not religious that brew hatred: It's the human inability to accept and respect the differences among others. I don't need to go deeper into this.
Look at narutobase: how often do people insult and disrespect each other, simply because one likes a char, and the other doesn't? You might say, then, that the manga brew hatred. What about the "fights" between iphone anboys and android fanboys? Then, smartphones brew hatred. What about CoD and BF? Then FPS games brew hatred.
In the end, the fault is always on us. We shouldn't try to blame things, such as religion, or the lack of it. We should blaime ourself for creating so many fights.
