omfg you elaborate son of a ***** just leaving these brilliant ****ing posts

Anyways

Religion is only good for peace on a small and typically personal scale. It can bring inner peace to an individual but for something that promotes pacifism, you're right, it does tend to brew a lot of hatred.

It's not religious that brew hatred: It's the human inability to accept and respect the differences among others. I don't need to go deeper into this.
Look at narutobase: how often do people insult and disrespect each other, simply because one likes a char, and the other doesn't? You might say, then, that the manga brew hatred. What about the "fights" between iphone anboys and android fanboys? Then, smartphones brew hatred. What about CoD and BF? Then FPS games brew hatred.

In the end, the fault is always on us. We shouldn't try to blame things, such as religion, or the lack of it. We should blaime ourself for creating so many fights.

that is blatant bigotry. No one says anything because its "cool" to bash religion, but its no different than racism or homophobia. The mods need to address this just like they address racism on here

I wish I could rep you.

It is very difficult to think of any organised human activity that could not be corrupted…The lesson is that anti-religious corruptions and religious corruptions are both possible. There is no magic system or belief, not even belief in liberal democracy, which can be guaranteed to prevent it.

To illustrate this let me use the outdated cliché of “religions are the cause war and conflict” and show how war and conflict are not unique to religions. In the relatively short history of secularism the following massacres have committed in the name of non-religious ideologies such a communism, nationalism and social-Darwinism:

• 70,000,000 under chairman Mao
• 20,000,000 under Stalin
• 2,000,000 no longer exist because of Pol Pot
• 700,000 innocent Iraqi’s in the current occupation
• 500,000 Iraqi children in the 10 year sanctions

So it can be clearly seen above that war and conflict are not religious monopolies, rather they are human phenomena and not unique to religion.

more people have died in the twentieth century’s secular wars than in the preceding fifty centuries of fighting combined…. No religious war in history, not all the religious wars of history added together, did as much damage as this century’s wars of nationalism and ideology.

Having a religion is like having a ****. It's great that you have one and are proud of it, but don't go waving it around in public and definitely don't try to shove it down someone's throat

I hope you apply this to atheism as well. I've seen some hypocrites before, and they just love this sentence, just as almost as they love trying to push the thought that everyone who is religious is stupid and being atheist is the same as being smart.

Exactly. Just because you're smarter, doesn't mean you need to keep pointing it out

Wrong. Just because you're an atheist, doesn't mean you're smart, nor a scientist. In fact, if you think that a simply belief or lack of it defines one's intelligence, than you're not smart at all.

Who said I was an atheist or that I was saying they were smarter? I was simply agreeing with your point. If your faith was that strong, you shouldn't be so easily offended

Oh, I didn't say that to you directly. I'm just breaking that thought. I'm not offended, but I know that is wrong. Just as wrong as saying being religious is being a peaceful or respectful person. These are thoughts I'll do everything to break, once and for all.

Personally I think the world would be better off with some intellectual skepticism when it comes to religion, but maybe that's just me

I think the world would be better without fanaticism. I dislike religious fanatics. I also dislike atheist fanatics. They are the people that keep those thoughts I'm willing to break. The world would be better off without them, I'm sure of it.

Fanaticism of any kind is disturbing. This also applies to patriotism. All of that breeds hate

I can't read a thread in this section anymore without undergoing some form of moral revulsion. In fact, I've become less tolerant than ever before, something about ignorance is just... repulsive.
