Religion brings peace?

I think religion teaches a lot of good things like not to hurt others, not to lie, etc. But it takes us away from the reality. Also many wars happen from religion.

The idea of religion was originally meant to bring peace. Although it turned out quite the opposite. It caused many wars and deaths.

Buddhism is peaceful, but originally it was not a religion. Long ago it was a system created by Siddartha Guatama, teaching his followers to meditate. However as time went on the traditions changed, the system unfortunately became a religion. Now they worship pictures and statues of the Buddha.

Religion is only good for peace on a small and typically personal scale. It can bring inner peace to an individual but for something that promotes pacifism, you're right, it does tend to brew a lot of hatred.

Wars didn't happen because of religion. They happned because of humans. The religious wars of the past were meant to increase one's power. The crusades, the best exemple, they were created to get land and gold, because that was power back then.
Spreading some religion, that was just an excuse.
How do you explain, in the religion wars in europe, a guy supporting a religion in his country, and supporting the ohter in another country? Does that really seem because of that religion, or is because that was what was going to keep him in possesion of his power?

As this is true, the opposite is also true. Religion doesn't bring peace. Those ideals about love and respect, that's what brings peace. You don't need to be religious to achieve those ideals, and being religious doesn't mean you respect and follow them.

What can we conclude? That by changing our behavior, we can make peace. Blaiming religion to be responsable of our problems won't solve anything. We, humans, created those problems. And of course, putting our hopes on it won't solve anything either.

At it's core Hinduism is essentially like Buddhism. Obviously if you look at hinduism superficially then all people think it is are a bunch of gods. Like the person above me said, it can definitely bring individual peace.

It can also bring world peace, but there are too many extremists in each religion (even Buddhism).

Religion is meant to bring peace. The wars brought upon by them is our fault.
You know why? Because we tend to tell everyone that our religion is better
than theirs or something like that. Not NECESSARILY us, but our religion leaders
. Some may even want us to convert. Wars are brought out upon by us.
Not by the ones we are praising and the thought of religion.

that is blatant bigotry. No one says anything because its "cool" to bash religion, but its no different than racism or homophobia. The mods need to address this just like they address racism on here

It all just depends on what you believe in and the type of person you are. People have different beliefs and people are influenced by things differently. If you are willing to start a war for your religion than is that a peaceful religion? No. As long as you love and live peacefully not only with yourself but with others than you're good. I believe in Jesus Christ but I don't believe in religion.
