My thoughts are the same as yours. I can see how someone might get this ability and go wild, it's like taking a new sports car on the road after years of driving a 4 cylinder car. Could easily get too heavy with the foot and end up wrapped around a traffic barrier if not used with moderation and serious considerationRight, and you've been on the site for years, plus you've obtained the ability in the first place. I expect you'll know the basics, lol. But yeah, the basic concept is simply to exceed your physical limits. Run faster, jump higher (maaaan), and when I say run faster, I mean, you know, a lot.
I've included the actual Eight Inner Gates technique in the spoiler. That is the basis for pretty much all EIG-related activies, so read it well. You have limited usages, so don't just pop the First Gate and stop. Opening the Gates if you're not an Eight Inner Gates Master is a commitment battle-wise; it'll limit your options in the Ninjutsu department in exchange for speed, so think about when you think that trade-off becomes viable. You can keep opening the Gates, going from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th and so on. That'll keep your engine on for longer, but you face the same issue; start too low and you might get burned, so think before you use it.
Of course, if you go above 3rd you'll start feeling the toll EIG use takes on the body, but the effects aren't too heavy unless you start throwing around really big numbers. Again, just always think about what you're doing, but you already know this stuff.
Anyway, tell me your thoughts and we'll talk a little about the individual Gates.
Eight Inner Gates
( Hachimon ) The Eight Inner Gates
Type: Supplementary
Rank: N/A
Range: Short
Chakra: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description: The Eight Gates are eight specific points on a person's Chakra Pathway System. They limit the overall flow of chakra within a person's body. The basis for the idea of the chakra gates comes from the body's limits on the functions within it. This makes the body much weaker, but it keeps the body from expiring too soon. By undergoing intense training, one can learn how to open these gates allowing the user to surpass their own physical limits at the cost of extreme damage to their own body. The user opens the gates in sequence, up to the desired gate to achieve its effects. Opening the gates is a fast process and can be done in mere moments up to the desired gate. EIG Masters can do so easily and in a passive way (not spending a move). When one opens up to a given EIG, that opening lasts 4 turns. Opening additional gates upon the last turn of the active opening adds 2 turns. However, there is an exception. Opening the last and 8th gate can only be done for 2 turns, even if the user opens it immediately.
(Kaimon) - The Gate of Opening: The user activates The Gate of Opening or First Gate, which is located in the brain. This gate removes the restraints of the brain on the muscles so he can begin to access 100% of their strength. Unlocking this gate allows the user to use the Front Lotus. This gate adds +5 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 1.5x faster. This gate also adds +10 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -5 damage per turn.
(Kyūmon) - The Gate of Healing: The user activates the Gate of Healing or 2nd Gate (also named Rest Gate) which is located in the brain. Forcibly increases one's physical strength and temporarily re-energizes the body. This gate adds +10 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 2x faster. This gate also adds +10 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -10 damage.
(Seimon) - The Gate of Life: The user activates the Gate of Life or 3rd Gate which is located in the Spinal cord. The increased blood flow turns the skin red. Allows the user to use Hidden Lotus. This gate adds +15 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 2.5x faster. This gate also adds +10 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -15 damage.
(Shōmon) - The Gate of Pain: The user activates the Gate of Pain or 4th Gate (also named Wound Gate) which is located in the Spinal cord, lower than the Seimon. Increases the user's strength and speed. May cause muscle tissue to begin to tear on use. This gate adds +20 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 3x faster. This gate also adds +15 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -15 damage.
(Tomon) - The Gate of Limit: The user activates the Gate of Limit or 5th gate, which is located in the abdomen. Increases the user's speed and power. This gate adds +30 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 3.5x faster. This gate also adds +15 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -15 damage.
(Keimon) - Gate of View: The user activates the Gate of View or 6th Gate, located in the stomach. Increases the user's speed and power. Opening of this gate releases such enormous amounts of chakra that it can cause nearby water bodies to form a vortex around the user. Allows the user to perform the Morning Peacock. This gate adds +40 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 4x faster. This gate also adds +15 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -25 damage.
(Kyōmon) - The Gate of Wonder: The user activates the Gate of Wonder or 7th Gate which is located below the stomach. Those who open this gate will pour glowing green sweat from every inch of their body, which immediately evaporates from their own heat energy, creating an aura which people would mistake as a green chakra coating. However, the side effects of opening the gate are that the user's muscle fibers are ripped to shreds after exiting this gate, causing intense pain if anything or anyone touches him. Allows the user to perform the Daytime Tiger without great strain on the user's chakra. This gate adds +60 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 7x faster. This gate also adds +20 chakra and damage to Ninjutsu. User suffers -40 damage.
(Shimon) - The Gate of Death: The user activates the Gate of Death or 8th Gate, located at the heart, requiring the user to puncture their chest just above the heart in order to open it, enabling the user to achieve what is described as The Eight Gates Released Formation" ( Hachimon Tonkō no Jin ). Opening this gate will cause the user's blood to emanate a flaming aura of red steam, the so-called Steam of Blood ( Chi no Jōki ) from all pores of their body, hair, and eyebrows. Releasing this gate uses up all of the body's energy while making the heart pump at maximum power. Exceeding the power of every other gate, the user is temporarily granted approximately a hundred times their normal power, far beyond that of the five Kage. Once activated, those who are capable can perform the Evening Elephant and the Night Guy. The side effect of opening this gate is that it comes at the expense of the user's life, causing the user to crumble to ash after their chakra runs out, having virtually cooked themselves from the inside-out. This is unlike opening the other gates, which simply injure or damage the body. This gate adds +120 damage to Taijutsu and the user becomes 8x faster and allows the user to warp space with his speed.
Note: The EIG users can only open the gates twice per fight, meaning that if he allows the EIG opening to time out, he can only open the EIGs once more during the match. EIG Masters can open EIGs three per battle if the first two uses are only up to 5th gate
Note: Starting with the fourth gate, EIG users begin to feel the side effects of each gate as they time out. EIG Masters don't suffer damage from opening up to 6th Gate, being left unable to move correctly for 2 turns and unable to mold chakra above S rank in the next turn. EIG Masters will feel the side effects for opening 7th Gate and up.
Note: The user cannot use other self powering techniques (such as custom variations of Lightning Armor, Sage Mode, etc) while he has EIG opened
Note: Opening the 8th Gate kills the user at the end of the 2 turns it remains opened.
Haha, something like that, but with a little restraint you speed up slow, smooth the process over and still end up driving 120 mph in the end.My thoughts are the same as yours. Welp, anyone worth their salt knows that Gate 6 is the best as far as bang for your buck, anything above is far too taxing. Now mind you this was before WSE so the drawbacks were slightly easier to kinda brush aside. I'm actually really excited about the health system and the long term effects it will have on bio's creating greater realism and consequences. It will make things like activating the Gates in any form something to think twice about before recklessly acting. The additional techniques available depending on which Gate is activated is wonderful, as I'm a Taijutsu junie and the more techs I have access to, the better I feel about my miserable rl self xD That's a joke btw.Haha, something like that, but with a little restraint you speed up slow, smooth the process over and still end up driving 120 mph in the end.
Car references aside though, take a look at the technique and its numbers. When do you feel like the tradeoff becomes 'worth' it? However straightforward the fundamentals of the Gates are there is still a lot of nuances to the ability. Remember that each Gate not only comes with a speed and damage increase, but also with additional restrictions like whether you can perform mid-level Ninjutsu or not as an EIGM, whether the drawbacks of deactivation will be enough to turn the tide of a battle, plus the straight-up health cost that will now have a real impact due to WSE. There are also techniques tied to some levels, from the Front Lotus to Midnight Moth.
Positives and negatives. Share your thoughts.
Haha, I get that. It's good to have some custom Tai in the bag.Welp, anyone worth their salt knows that Gate 6 is the best as far as bang for your buck, anything above is far too taxing. I don't think I'd use any of them lightly tbh, I'd probably try to keep it a secret as long as possible that I had the ability in a fight, meaning my opponent would have to be very strong. Strong enough to force me to open the gates, especially if we are talking about the 7th and 8th. As for using that final gate, it makes me feel kinda icky to not die from it lol. I mean it's nice to know that if I had to use it I wouldn't be permanently dooming my bio to an eternity in the dropped/declined section, but it just wouldn't feel right to simply recover from my body turning into ashHaha, I get that. It's good to have some custom Tai in the bag.
Right, so you say the 6th Gate, I gather. I understand your view, as far as the restrictions/drawbacks go. You can very clearly see that the 7th and 8th Gate scale differently than the rest. The speed boosts rise by a half each time until then. You're getting bang for the buck, but you also don't have much to scale up to, unless you want to go all in.
You know what, since the first six basically scale linearly, let's look at the outlier. The 7th and 8th Gate. Take a look at the associated techniques; when would you use these levels in combat? Would you ever go 8th Gate, considering that at least in WSE you can't die with the new health system.
Well, in a WSE setting your body wouldn't entirely disintegrate... hmm, I think we should make some extra drawbacks on 'deaths' like this to be frank. I have to agree, I think some form of restriction should def be added. It defeats the whole point of the super honorable death by using the last gate to protect your nindo! *Might Guy smile and thumbs up* Even though I know it'd affect me as well, I'd be fine with it as surviving the 8th Gate without Riker there to use the Yang seal with his Six Paths Naruto bio would just feel wrong lol. Tbh, even that felt icky to watch/read, as much as I didn't want Guy to die but it seemed so asspullish, imo, the way he was saved from that restriction. I digress, that's a discussion for a different section of this forum lol.Well, in a WSE setting your body wouldn't entirely disintegrate... hmm, I think we should make some extra drawbacks on 'deaths' like this to be frank. Since you've been waiting so long, I'll just post some info about some EIG stuff generally. Ask any questions about the techniques on the EIG jutsu list in general, if you have any. First I gotta mention the best technique on there:
(Chiratsuki Kaihi) Flicker Evasion
Very useful, but remember that this isn't an automatic dodge, as it stresses. However, if you got enough speed it can be used to dodge multiple techniques at once. ( Sukaiu~ōku ) - Sky Walk is the same concept, but faster, in the air, and generally more badass.Type: Defensive
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description:
A skill usable by all EIG users and masters, once one has opened at least one of the EIG, he will move at high speeds to dodge, attack or defend from techniques. The ability pertains to movement in the battle field, meaning running, walking, jumping, dashing, etc and its speed depends on the Gate currently opened.
Note: This version can only be used by EIG masters with at least one gate opened
Remember that even if the Tai attacks have elemental-like properties, like fire with a few and air pressure, wind, in another, remember they're still Taijutsu attacks and thus neutral to elements. It's just the strength of your attacks that create these effects.
( Sekizō ) - Evening Elephant
Is really OP. Five punches, 80 for the first, plus 20 every time after. That's 600 damage, and no usage restrictions. 8th Gate though, so use with care and pure intentions.Type: Offensive
Rank: S
Range: Short - Long
Chakra: 40
Damage: 80
Description: This technique is a continuous assault of five punches, with each "foot", as they are referred to, being performed faster than the one before. It creates a vacuum of pressurised air which bears the appearance of an elephant's leg, causing devastating damage to the opponent. The first punch alone was capable of creating a 10 meter deep tunnel in the ground. The subsequent punches are delivered as the user moves at high speeds around the opponent, attacking from all angles, culminating with the final punch, strong enough to break through the Truth Seeking Balls shield. The first hit alone deals 80 damage, each after deals 20 damage more than the last one.
Note: Can only be used with the 8th Gate open.
Remember not to try and stack the Gates with other stuff and though it's a bit of a fluffy restriction, remember not to use any F-ranks the turn after they close.
Before we start wrapping up; pick a few techniques out you like and tell me about them. If we assume you're actually gonna use the Gates on occasion, I'd like to hear how you'd go about it, in rough terms.
And there's the fact that you still have stuff like K'Tai, normal Tai, Kenjutsu, some CFS, etcetera, at your disposal. With jutsu usages regenerating at 1 per week in WSE the Gates can actually be used more liberally, so there's that as well. I know there's a kind of implicit courtesy between NB'ers to not just spam powerful stuff, but in an age where +20 boosts are everywhere, and the conditions are good, I don't think you should be afraid to test out your newfound abilities. Honestly, at this point I've probably been your biggest obstacle, lol.I have to agree, I think some form of restriction should def be added. Flicker I'm familiar with from using the Bijuu version though it's slightly different. I try not to use it except for emergencies, though Sky Walking is amazing for super-speed combo's. Loved that next one, Evening Elephant. Of course if you've gone that far and the person somehow got thru it like Madara did, no doubt Night Guy is following close behind this one. Hell even if it K'O'd them I'd prolly Night Guy a cliff or something just cause why waste a chance when the 8th gates already opened.
A few I like... Where do we start xD I love em all. I'm seriously a Taijutsu junkie and the more options I have the warmer I feel inside. If I had to narrow a few of the Gates related ones in particular excluding the obvious aforementioned ones of course, I'd start with the chakraless Morning Peacock, I'm biased to love anything with fire in it's description plus it was a cool looking powerful attack, same thing goes for Tree Leaf Roaring Flame Hurricane such a cool useful move and devastating for cqc. Reverse Buster because it really comes off as a DBZ style fighting move, and once again, biased lol. Little Toe Attack, don't let the name fool you. If that lands on someone they are gonna have a severely broken bio in need of healing stat. Daytime Tiger is great but far too taxing to use, its one of them I better win with this attack, attacks. Crane Wing Formation is a great attack or counter to incoming ninjutsu attacks helping clear a path to the opponent. The Lotus ones and Extremely Powerful Whirlwind of the Leaf are of course great for executing close range combo's that overpower an opponent. Well, damn i think that's all of them.
