Recently there have been many debates on whether or not the Sage of the 6 Paths may or may not be an Uzumaki. As such I would like to put my two cents in.
First of all we all know the story of the two sons who would later start the Uchiha Clan and the Senju Clan. The definition of clan is a group of people united by actual or perceived kinship and descent. So merely being a part of a clan does not mean you are blood related. The Uzumaki Clan is supposed descendants of the Senju Clan. There are two types of descendants. The first is lineal descendants and the second is collateral descendants. Lineal descendants as the name suggest follow a straight line, such as children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on. Collateral descendants are descendants that don't follow a straight line such as cousins and uncles. Zetsu has said that the Uzumaki's are from the Senju lineage. Lineage means a lineal descent from an ancestor; ancestry or pedigree. It can also mean kinship. Kinship is defined as a sharing of characteristics or origins.
I believe that Rikudō Sennin is an Uzumaki. He gifted the elder with the "eyes" also his powerful chakra. He gifted the younger son with the "body" also his powerful life force. The Uzumaki have both powerful chakra and a powerful life force. As shown when Kushina survived the extraction of Kurama, also when Mito lived from before the founding of the village well into Hiruzen's reign. Zetsu said that the Uzumaki were part of the Senju lineage here(

). Which means that they share a lineal descent from an ancestor. However most people believe it is the younger brother. When in fact it is Rikudō Sennin himself. The lineal relationship would still be preserved. Also furthering this idea is all Jinchuuriki's of Kurama have been an Uzumaki. Naruto also possesses closer DNA to Rikudō Sennin than others being able to unconsciously use one of his sealing techniques. Nagato was also able to summon Gedo Mazo which is the husk of the Juubi.
