I suggest Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind. I read it a while back, but I really enjoyed it. It's not exactly a "Harry Potter" or a "Twilight", though.

If you're interested in something a bit denser but not ancient, you could go for something a bit more 19th century with Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, or anything by Charles Dickins. As for 20th century literature, I recommend anything by Ernest Hemmingway, J.D. Salinger (he wrote other things aside from The Catcher in the Rye), or Franz Kafka... A pretty random selection of three authors, but I could go on an on about each writer's unique style. If you're not really that big on books written before 1980 (teehee :p), but if you're still interested in reading some, I suggest you start with Salinger, and then move on to Hemmingway. Kafka's works can be a bit... confusing.

Lol, why do people keep mentioning Harry Potter. The book isn't even a great work of literature its uses are purely entertainment.
Well, actually, Harry Potter uses some good imagery and story-telling techniques. It's just that most of the people who take the time to read Harry Potter don't see it as "literature" to be analyzed - they just see it as entertainment. :p

Read 1984 by George Owell (Arthur Blair).

One of the greatest book ever written.

A little more luck on the Nazi's side and the world could have been an exact copy of what Orwell depicted in 1984.

Hmm...You're a girl right? Well, I'm assuming you've read the Harry Potter series already so no use recommending that but anyways, I bet you would like these books:
1. Hush Hush- Becca Fitzpatrick (there's a book coming for this series called Crescendo. Better look out for that one)
2. The Luxe Series- Anna Godbersen (You'll like this one if you're into romance and historical stuff)
These are the books I've read so far this summer. :D
Hope these books suits your tastes. :)
