Anyway with some knowledge of Japanese and some other asian languages I poked around some asian naruto forums, and it's interesting to note how their reactions are kinda different.
First off it seems the percentage of people thinking tobi=obito before the latest chapters was even slimmer than here on narutobase, and the few who did believe obito was tobi were almost universally made fun of. But after the revelation by kishi, while most fans were abit disappointed, many of them did actually apologize to obito-fans, even though virtually all discussion sites wonder at the huge amount of inconsistencies in earlier chapters seemingly contradicting obito=tobi. So there really arent many flame wars on "i told you so suckas" vs "im quiting this stupid manga".
There are also some popular theories concerning "because of rin" that seem quite different from what's brought to the table here on the base. Alot of people have raised the fact that, since ninja clans in narutoverse are very similar to ancient families in real world japan/china, sharing similar values, it is NOT POSSIBLE that after obito's death the Uchihas would just let kakashi, an outsider, keep the sharingan. So one such theory went that Uchihas may have made a move on kakashi to retrieve the eye, and maybe Rin somehow got caught up in between and got killed. Now this would explain why Tobi would want Uchiha clan's destruction, while not blaming kakashi personally.
It's also noted how obito HASNT REALLY CHANGED upon taking up the tobi/madara mantel. In kakashi gaiden, obito came up with the famous statement about what's "worse than scum", but he also said if the concept of ninja contradicts his conviction about friendship and loyalty, then he would DESTROY IT. This sounded like a cool thing to say, but it was an EXTREME point of view, how once his conviction dictates that the world is contrary to what he BELIEVES to be ideal, he would end it.
This ideal is almost identical to Naruto's belief, in how he'll end the current system of ninja that does not know true peace. It is extreme reasoning, and can easily lead to ultimate evil, if what is considered "ideal" or "good" is twisted. This is fascinating cause obito would make the perfect counterpart for naruto: he's almost exactly the same as naruto in his conviction. This is also what itachi was takling about, if naruto doesnt remember his friends and only believes in himself, his kyuubi power would only let him BECOME JUST LIKE TOBI.
I used to be a firm believer in izuna theory, and actually said "oh shit" out loud as soon as i saw the title for chapter 599 last week. But now I really think tobi=obito is a master-stroke marking the beginning of the end of kishimoto's grand ninja saga.
