I know these two bands can't really be compared seeing as they have two different sounds, however they both consist of Tom Morello on guitar, Tim Commerford on base, and Brad Wilks on drums. So inevitably they have to be compared over and over and over. Of course, these two bands are probably too old for most of NB to have heard of, with Audioslave releasing it's first studio album back in 2001, and Rage Against the Machine as early as 1991.

However, I grew up listening to Rage, and Audioslave came around in my high school years.

So we'll be scoring both bands from one through five on several categories, Technical Proficiency, Vocals (Two different vocalists, Zach De La Rocha for RATM and Chris Cornell originally from Sound Garden for Audioslave), Riffs/Licks/Solos, and Overall enjoyability. Feel free to voice your opinions as well.

Seeing as a lot of people on NB will have no idea who Rage Against the Machine or Audioslave is, I'll include some music.

First up, Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name:

Following, Audioslave - Cochise:

Technical Proficiency:
RATM 4
Audioslave 3
Vocals:
RATM 3
Audioslave: 3.5
Riffs/Licks/Solos:
RATM 4
Audioslave 3
Overall Enjoyability:
RATM 4
Audioslave 4

As for my personal opinions, whereas Rage went all out to make crazy sounds, Audioslave went for a smoother yet harder than Sound Garden vibe. Both played out very well for their style. While I was never a fan of Sound Garden, Chris Cornell did very well for Audioslave. His voice definitely changed and became quite brilliant in my opinion. I really don't like to compare the two, but feel I have to.

Also, while I know they're two different bands with two different sounds, I can't help but feel disappointed at times when listening to how calmed down Tom Morello is.
