You're awesome for a novice designer. A couple of tips:

- Use the dodge/burn tool to make shadows and make the light source stand out.
- Blur fractions of the background to add depth, which adds a slight 3D effect.
- At the end of the sig, add a gradient map on low opacity to blend the colours in =)

I'm an expert Photoshop designer, PM me if you need any help. ;)

sure it is,sure it is :p

errm well no i dont think its to sharpened and the light source is good but is empty, try either placing your render closer to the center or fill in the empty space with some effects, more smudging,c4ds or smthg, u get me right?
also u could use some clipping masks or just some nice brushes^^

I did put in a C4D but it looked wierd so I took it back out and tried various gradient maps. Looking at it now, it does seem rather empty, but the bright colours make it difficult to do much with....

...Moving the pic will make it look crap 'coz do you see the smooth colours to the right of Ulquirro's head? Thats the smudged hollow mask I kept smoth while making everything else in the background sharper to give it some 'flow'.

...I'll start over

well dont just throw any c4d render and expect to look good, erase part of it, blur some sharpen others...and i get what u mean about the smudging but u can also duplicate your render more than once and move it around in your canvas and then start the smudging.
