Rasengan is better because it doesn't use tons of chakra like Chidori does, nor does it cause you to experience tunnel vision if you don't have the Sharingan. Also, Chidori just cuts, whereas Rasengan continuously grinds, thus inflicting much greater damage.

Rasengan is surperior in the end, Chidori cuts straight through the opponent.

Rasengan doesn't cut but it seriously wounds, possible kills a person in first hit, since it is so powerful and does not need handseals, plus you can add an element increase its power.

This makes the Rasengan one of the most devastating jutsu.

If we look back: Kabuto got wrecked by Naruto using the Rasengan in combat for the first time, and he had just mastered the stage of making the rasengan (or somewhat close)

then he uses it in many battles, until he combines his element wind, making it so powerful that Kakuzu and his remaining 3 hearts all get completely annihilated with a single strike.

I can keep going but i won't.

The Chidori is kinda like just one version that wont change kinda.

This except the Kakuza part let's replace it with the mini rasenshurikkens that raped the zetsu's and another big advantage is rasengans various sizes

Hmmm... Well its isn't the tool, it's the craftsmen :D
Or well in this case the ninja using the jutsu.
I am going to base my answer on a ninja that can use both jutsu's, and of course its Kakashi :) He can use both jutsu's and if I recall correctly, he can only use chidori 5 times or something, but they are powerful (However this is also due to him having a lightning nature). When he uses Rasengan, it does look powerful still and can use it many many times.
With this conclusion of mine, I am going to go with Rasengan.

Comparing Rasengan with Chidori is stupid:
Chidori is a complete technique which needs Lighting chakra nature;
Rasengan is the ultimate chakra form manipulation. still incomplete(as left by Minato. By adding wind to it you get Futon Rasen-Shurinken, which is the complete techinque. All the others form of Rasengan are incomplete no matter what the size or the name.
However If we were to compare the Rasengan with Chidori, the Chidori is stronger because it can pierce trough Rasengan. Rasengan deals damage over an extended area and it's more like a techinque that will deal damage for as long as you mantain the technique; Chidori is more of a pin-point technique, dealing burst piercing damage. Chidori definetly wins vs Rasengan; And btw someone said that Chidori consumes more chakra than the Rasengan...that's false ... it just happens that most of the Rasengan users have much higher chakra pools ( Minato, Jiraiya, Naruto) than the users of Chidori(Sasuke, Kakashi)

It does take more chakra... Kakashi can use Rasengan more times then Chidori. Apart from that I do agree you, well to some degree :p

Chidori is my personal favorite cause it looks cooler and idk but the hand signs before just add on the coolness. Also like the way Sasuke holds his arm and lighting focuses around him when he uses it. Rasagen just bores my it is just a spinning ball while chidori is like a crackling, static ball in your hand.

They are both lethal techniques.

The Chidori is classified as an assassination move. It can puncture it's target in a blink of an eye and kill them before they can even react. This is mentioned by Gai during the Chuunin Finals and demonstrated by Kakashi versus Kakuzu.

The Rasengan is the pinnacle of shape manipulation and delivers enough force to seriously damage it's opponent.

You can compare the two techniques like this:
-The Chidori is like a knife or a blade
-The Rasengan is like a sledgehammer
Both of these weapons are different in appearance and use, but they can both kill you in 1 hit.

As for which one's better, I would go with the Rasengan. Why? Because it doesn't have an elemental disadvantage like the Chidori. Both are powerful techniques, but the Chidori can't be used against a Wind-user because it'll be mercilessly countered. The Rasengan on the other hand can, in theory, be used against anyone because it's composed of normal chakra.

Everyone who's bringing up the Rasenshuriken or other variants of the Rasengan are wrong. Those are derived from the Rasengan, but they are not the Rasengan. The Rasengan is in reference to the original base version. Even the Oodama Rasengan is technically not the same as the Rasengan. It may just look bigger, but by definition it is a different version.

The Chidori also has variants like the Chidori Senbon, Chidori Nagashi, Sasuke's Chidori Spear, and Kakashi's Lightning Transmission. Yet, they are not the same as the Chidori, the original base version. So stop bringing them into this discussion.
