The Rasengan is only at its basic chakra form and can already do much more damage than the Chidori. Add an element to it and you got yourself one hell of a jutsu. And according to the Chakra chart, Wind > Lightning.

Wakusei Rasengan is one of the most rad things in the manga concerning aesthetic appeal, at least to me it is, when Nardo used it on Muu it was the equivalent to a kamehameha.

Well rasengan was modelled after tbb ( correct me if im wrong) and he can mix it with other natures in w/e fancy way he wants.

Chidori has relation to one nature but used by sasuke in diff ways. I'm going to say chidori.

Think of it this way, Chidori is like a Light Heavyweight MMA fighter, and Rasengan is a Heavyweight Boxer. Chidori might not have as much power as the Heavyweight but it has more methods of delivering a fatal blow. Rasengan really only has one good method of delivery and its to hit somebody with it at a very close range, mainly with the use of distraction but if it hits its going to wreck shop.

I beg to differ, Nardo used the transformation jutsu and transformed into a rasenshuriken to fool the preta path into trying to absorb him, and it can be thrown. chidori does have some variety, but as far as I can tell Chidori can only either pierce or cut.

Naruto has done everything from forming multiple rasengans to strike multiple ppl

To even forming Oodama rasengans with the kyuubi's tails and handing them off to his teammates, I'd love to see Chidori do something like that
