Lil Wayne from 05-08 might not been the most lyrical rapper, but dammit, his flow and punchlines and energy made up for it!

I actually agree with you, Ghan. Kendrick might be more lyrically inclined than Lil Wayne but to deny that he is a brilliant rapper would just be stupid. The key word being 'rapper' here. The word rapper being the used here in the sense of the more mainstream hip-hop artists, a rapper performs, records songs tailored to fit the requests and the current trends of hip-hop. No one has the amount of energy Lil Wayne had while he performed, no one put as much effort and work into their music as Wayne did (who else you know can have a top 100 songs by them from one single year?) in 2007 and the years around that. His music might not make your scratch your head or think deep about what he is saying but it certainly flows together very good and to put it simple, he commanded the attention of the hip-hop world, even now he is still in the front light of hip-hop, just not as much as past years.

kendrick lamar may be the best mainstream artist, but thats not saying much....I LMAO at the fact that there's 100's of underground rappers who will eat kendrick....but don't get me wrong, he's ok for a mainstream cat

So you KNOW hes a poet....a VERY good one at that...and you question whether or not hes a lyricist? This kid was like 15 holding his own up on Def Poetry Jam...if you listened to his lyrics, and didnt peg him immediately as a fast rapping "poet turned rapper" You would understand he spits literal gyroscopes around kendrick...lmfao
