I don't know, I think Kaido was the first one to hold that title. I always thought it was because he might have been a Zoan user, so the title refers to him having the strongest devil fruit in that category.

I believe Blackbeard is the strongest mainly because he has more affiliation with Luffy and the story overall. He seems like he's going to be Luffy's rival considering what he did to Ace.

And also the fact that Blackbeard is named after arguably the most legendary pirate in history.

I feel like being labled the strongest man alive or creature doesn't make him the strongest yonko being that includes you crew strength and as far as i know shanks has the strongest crew seeing as how he can stop kiado and his 100 beasts if they are all on one ship but still I haven't seen shanks with more than his main crew from my understanding he's the only yonko that has yet to be shown with a fleet so that alone should prove his crews strength

This entire thread is speculation, so don't talk to me about fact. I'm speculating that once we see Blackbeard, he'll be introduced as someone stronger than Kaido.

That's how I'm ranking him.

Also, Dragon was said to be the "most dangerous man alive." So it just goes to show the contradiction of titles.
