So this question has been bothering me all morning. If something as heavy as the Earth but not as big as the Earth rested on the surface of the Earth would that force the Earth out of its orbit or will it be able to support twice its weight.

If it's rested instead of impacted, the earth will get closer to the sun than it is. F is greater without change in earth's speed

:wesobi: Don't take this as a definite answer.
From what I know, Space isn't all Space. Space is actually a fabric.
Currently, all planetary bodies make a dent in this fabric due to their mass and if we were to place an object with the same mass but not size on Earth, the dent would be deeper I guess..perhaps close to that of either Saturn's or Neptune's and I don't think it'll push Earth out of Orbit. Maybe probably increase or decrease the number of days in a year?
It should also have an effect on the moon because our current dent is what keeps the moon in orbit. Something like this I think..:wut:

But if its not the same size of the Earth then its mass must be because of its density. And its only on one side of the Earth wouldnt that playing a big roll in the orbit of Earth.

:wut: Actually, I'm not really sure Earth's orbit would be affected. (If I'm not mistaken) I believe Earth moves along its orbit because of the Suns' gravity pull on it. I'm not sure increase in mass will change that. Especially with Earth and Venus between two smaller sized (Mars and Mercury) planets.
Perhaps your scenario will effect the Earth's rotation on its axis..or slightly tilt the planet.. :wut:
Again, I'm really not sure about all this. My knowledge on this comes from watching documentaries

Yes. A center of gravity would be established between the three bodies, the earth, the other body and the moon and based on that the orbit would shift nearer to the sun imo.

So in other words the object somehow doesn't cause the Earth to explode all across it's surface or anything just crushes the things underneath also Earth and this mysterious magical object doesn't combine due to the impact and increase in size as well as restart evolution or effect the moon or the second moon that would form from the initial impact that would launch matter into space and you want a logical answer?! :dafq:

Bruh learn basic science then come up with a legitimate question.

I never said it impacts the earth. It only rests along the surface. How would it impact the earth if it has no momentum. It would crush everything underneath it but thats probably all it would do. That makes my question legitimate

So basically we would burn to death depending on the change in the distance relative to the sun... AWESOME
Yeah we would either have the Tropical seasons or deserts depending on the distance it changed with...

one more thing I forgot to ask:
You lost me when you stated, Earth will "support", WTF :sdo: support what??? learn space geometry more XD

If it has same weight as earth i guess it will have same gravity as earth
So earth and that thing will be pulling each other and they will mold together
Then earth's gravity will increase or at that event when that thing popped up, which will draw moon closer and bring down some close flying asteroids and screw their and it's own orbits around the sun.
