Conservatives see both cases as indications of psychological disorder, generally.

What conservatives are upset about is not so much the individual behavior of the people in question, but of the push to treat this kind of behavior as something that is 'normal' and 'to be celebrated.' They see books being sold on the shelves at scholastic book fairs to grade school children about transgenderism.

Children who have yet to discover masturbation can be filled with ideas about whether or not they are of a gender opposite of their physical *** and their parents can throw 'coming out' parties for their five year old declaring she's a boy.

That's what conservatives are upset about - the push to 'celebrate' mental disorder and to try to indoctrinate children into ideas they can't possibly have a concept of.

The fact that these individuals are doing something crazy is a given. There are always going to be crazy people and the media is always going to find them because crazy will get people to stop what they are doing and pay attention to the advertising space. Getting upset over the existence of crazy people is an exercise in futility.

But why is it a mental disorder? Who said it was?

I agree with you on the child part. There's no need for us to push this type of thing on children, and allowing children to change their gender. They can hardly decide what crayon they want to color with, let alone a life decision.

My point was that there are conservatives who support Jenner because that's something they are comfortable with, but at the same time condemn Rachel for being transracial(I know she's not actually transracial, but most of the hate she gets is because she was pretending to be black, and not necessarily the lying part).

But why is it a mental disorder? Who said it was?

It falls into a class of what would be considered communication and/or behavior disorders.

Transgender is, basically, a complete failure to establish individual identity. Rather than seeing identity as springing from an individual's ideas and willpower, identity is inferred from one's own actions as if from an external viewpoint. IE - "I participate in more female behaviors than male behaviors and therefor must be female." Or the person feels more strongly compelled towards actions that have an association with gender and the individual is incapable of separating the social context from personal identity.

This is like saying: "I like swatting at dangling objects, which is feline behavior, so I must be a feline in a human body."

While this line of thinking can be entertaining and amusing - it's not healthy to actually advance as one's personal identity being a cat.

Likewise - the idea that Dolezal must be black (at least 'on the inside') in order to enjoy identifying with the culture of blacks in America is... not only racist - it's within the same delusional category of thought that is incapable of separating "I enjoy these things" from "I am what these things are labeled."

I agree with you on the child part. There's no need for us to push this type of thing on children, and allowing children to change their gender. They can hardly decide what crayon they want to color with, let alone a life decision.

This trend has been noticed for some time within conservative circles and has, in the past, been made fun of by liberals. Basically - the observation has been that there has been an increasing amount of pressure to declare children as "LGBT" - the concept of "grooming" where children are convinced that he/she is homosexual, a girl in a boy's body, or whatever by someone who believes strongly in that culture.

If it isn't a 'recruitment drive' - they're doing a hell of a good job of giving that impression.

My point was that there are conservatives who support Jenner because that's something they are comfortable with, but at the same time condemn Rachel for being transracial(I know she's not actually transracial, but most of the hate she gets is because she was pretending to be black, and not necessarily the lying part).

There are Liberals who are the same - and for purely racist intentions (such as from the articles I quoted - the first of which was simply dripping in anti-white racism).

I can, however, understand why one would be in support of transgender but not in support of transracial.

Gender has understandable differences. Women of all races tend to behave and act in a way characteristically different from men. A guy who wants to act like a girl and call himself a girl... alright - whatever.

Race is far more murky, though. I know black people who act like people who happen to be black. I've also seen white people who act like what I would describe to be animals. There isn't the clear pattern of behavior.

So, when I say: "I identify as black" - I am not just saying that I think I can just alter my biology, I am also saying that what I am doing is how black people behave.

Remember the "racist jokes" we all used to enjoy? You know - about black people and watermelons and fried chicken; mexicans with a million kids; white people and their trailers? Remember how we were all told to stop those because of how inappropriate they were for stereotyping?

Oh.

Further - the idea that I need to alter my appearance in order to better identify with a racial group ... is just a little prejudice, don't you think?

Because if my skin is white, I am not going to be able throw down Ebonics with my black friends and fit in with them as if we were just a bunch of people participating in a mutually held (or understood) culture?

Or that if black people want to "identify as white" that they would have to undergo similar alterations in order to properly interface with white people?

That's the problem I have with it.

It goes so far as to say that races are such distinct things as to require substantial physical alterations in order to bridge the gap between them.

You kept it short and concise.

Someone that gets it. ^

:hooray:

You don't know what white privilege is. Why talk about something you don't understand?

I know what the myth of white privilege is. This "white privilege" also keeps me from the following

Black privilege is being able to take pride in your race without fear of persecution.
Black privilege is when people assume you are poor because of racism, not because you’re lazy.
Black privilege is being wealthy without people assuming you wealth was all handed to you or that you exploited others.
Black privilege is being able to commit violent crimes against another race without people assuming you are racist.
Black privilege is being given ‘affirmative action’ which advantages you in jobs and colleges based on your skin tone.
Black privilege is having the media cover up your race in the event of a black flash mob or gruesome murder
Black privilege is being able to make insensitive comments about other races and not being called out on it
Black privilege is when people assume that the police pulled you over because of racism.
Black privilege is being able to blame your shortcoming on racism.
Black privilege is when people consider you to be superior at sports or ‘better in bed’ without it being racist.
Black privilege is not having to be fearful of offending minorities.
Black privilege is having the establishment lie to cover up problems in your community or protect you from criticism.
Black privilege is when you can be over-represented in a certain field without people trying to amend it
Black privilege is having the government pander to your interests in order to ‘get the black vote’
Black privilege is having Hollywood always present you in a positive light

I get no benefit from people sharing the same color skin as me, it's all about how I present myself. Lets say my name is cletus and I come to a job interview in a coorperation in overalls. Do you thing I would get a job over a black candidate for being white in that scenario? If not then you also believe in money privilege(which white people have more of because there are more of us... get over that).

So you're trying to dismiss white privilege by showing 'black privilege'. You still haven't displayed your knowledge of white privilege so your argument still does not stand.

I'd counter each of your points but I'm busy. Maybe I'll do it later.

White privilege hinges on the belief that whites are always in power. There are black businesses where I can just as easily be discriminated against. In those instances blacks would hold "black privilege".

Now we've got it boiled down to where you only actually get privilege in places where your people are owners. White people have always been a majority in this country. If we gave every person one business to run, I would still have an overwhelming "white privilege".

Bascially it's a way for minortites to fail and pass all blame on to others.
