This brave, brave woman. She gave up her white privilege to represent black people and we dare to critique her in the media? Are you serious? Jeez... We can have transexuals but we can't have transracials? Are you kidding me? Smh... What do you guys think?

Um okay >.< this is an awkward situation. In my opinion I don't really have a problem with her being a "transracial" but a problem that she was dishonest and lied !!!

****ing no. It's not okay to be able to wash off oppression and go back to being white whenever she wants and black people can't. Plus she lied.

I sense the transphobia, but the reason is, she's erasing her past and filling it with lies. Discarding her parents, lying to the NAACP, and then some. Not the same situation.

"If Rachel Dolezal did indeed accept a full scholarship to Howard University under the pretext she was black, she took a spot that was meant for a person of color. This isn’t to say that white people don’t belong at Howard. But Howard University was created to give opportunities to black people when no others were available. In a country that still sees large disparities by race in quality of primary education, and family income, an affordable, quality college education is much harder for many black Americans to obtain than it is for many white Americans. Rachel came from a middle class white family and was raised in the privilege that entailed. She may well have taken a spot intended for someone who had overcome hardships she never faced.

As a teacher of African-American centered classes at Eastern Washington University, she misrepresented her teachings as those coming from a black perspective, when they were not. White teachers can and do teach African-American-centered courses all the time, and often do it very well. But it’s important for students to know if they are getting first or second-hand perspective. It’s important to know if opinions being discussed come from people who have actually experienced what they are talking about. In addition, according to accounts by white anti-racist activist Tim Wise, Dolezal used her status as a “black” woman to try to prevent him from speaking at EWU, arguing that as a white man, he wasn’t qualified to speak on issues affecting black people. She used her fake identity as a black woman to try to control the education on black issues that her students received.

...

But instead she fled. And in fleeing into Blackness and claiming it for her own, she did what so many defenders of white supremacy have done — she simplified Blackness to skin tone and hair texture. She divorced the best of black culture from the struggle that it was born from. She claimed the community, the platform, the music, the clothing, the hairstyle — all without a minute of the fear, oppression and discrimination that black Americans have faced for centuries, and still face to this day. "

All emphasis in context.

" A black man is her father. Dolezal at one point claimed her father was a black man who was forced to move from the Deep South after assaulting a police officer. "My dad's exodus, the great migration to the North from the Deep South where they left on the midnight train because a white officer harassed and threatened to, was about ready to, beat his dad with a billy club and he whipped around and actually slapped the officer to his knees," she said. But Lawrence Dolezal, a white man from Troy, Montana, said he is Rachel's birth father. “We taught our children, as we raised all six of them, to tell the truth, always be honest. So we weren’t going to lie. We told the truth: Rachel is our birth daughter," he said.

“Jesus Christ” is the witness on her birth certificate. Rachel once told a reporter her mother believed in living off the land, so she had a nontraditional birth. But Ruthanne and Lawrence Dolezal have shared her birth certificate with reporters. A witness is not listed.

Her family hunted for food with bows and arrows and they lived in a tepee. "That is totally false," Ruthanne said. Dolezal's mother said she and her husband lived in a tepee in 1974 when they were first married, before their daughter was born. "That was the end of living in the tepee," Ruthanne said.

Her black adopted brother is her son. Rachel has said Izaiah Dolezal is her son, but he was actually adopted by her parents. Between 1993 and 1995, Ruthanne and Lawrence adopted four black children: Ezra, Izaiah, Zachariah and Esther. Rachel has offered different versions of this story. "He used to be my brother," she said recently. "But I have full custody of him now."

She used brown crayons to draw herself as a child. Dolezal said she has long identified with the African-American experience, as evident by her choice at the age of 5 to draw self-portraits in brown instead of peach crayon and with black curly hair. "I identify as black," she told NBC's Matt Lauer. But her mother directly disputed the childhood story in an interview with NBC Spokane affiliate KHQ. "That didn't happen," said Ruthanne. "It's disappointing to see that Rachel is still making false statements ... I was hoping to see a change." "

There is a phrase I reserve for people like this: "The harlot is consumed by the beast she rides."

If this is the type of person you want to elevate to a heroine, then, by all means, I can't stop you. Just know that the destruction of those who glorify this type of behavior has been ordained. You will never find fulfillment in the direction you are walking.

Gender- biological
Race- sociological
That's not the same thing.
As a black person I am not okay with Rachel lying to help black people when she could have still helped as white woman. Her lies destroyed whatever good she has done. She lied about a black man being her father, stop talking to her parents because of their race, told her son/ brother Isaiah that white people was racist, said all her adoptive brothers were her sons she told one of her Hispanic students that she didn't look" Hispanic" enough. One of her black brothers said this was a slap in the face to black people because she never experienced struggles black people go through because she lied and used black face. But you said this woman is like" Joan of Arc". It's like people forget that if this woman does experience something she doesn't like posing as a black woman she can easily said" I'm white" .

Race is not simply a social construct. There is a strong biological component to race caused by recessive and dominant alleles and phenotypic traits. Biodiversity is biological, and it can be tampered with by science. Gender is a social construct by the way. I think you meant ***.

You give her crap about not experiencing the struggles of black people (which I won't argue), but do you think Caitlyn Jenner really knows what it is like to be a woman? Would he know what it's like to give birth, to have an evolutionary drive to create and nurture life? To experience a menstrual cycle? Hot flashes and menopause? Embarrassment of bra size in middle school gym class? To get paid less for doing the same job? He's a rich white man and an Olympic athlete. He may think he does, like this girl thinks she's black, but they are not. You accidentally proved my point. There is a lot more to being a *** or a race than just messing with hormones and skin pigmentation. There is a social aspect to both that coincides with the genetic component. You'll never truly be both unless you were born that way.

People either need to disapprove of both, or support both. If you pick one or the other you aren't being logical.

there is no such thing as white privilege. There is only money privilege. "White privilege" suggests that only whites can own businesses and discriminate (removing minorities from any and all responsibility for their own actions). Jay-Z could just as easily discriminate against me while I have now way to effectively discriminate against him.

You don't know what white privilege is. Why talk about something you don't understand?

Race isn't a simple social structure. It's complex one. People either need to disapprove of both, or support both. If you pick one or the other you aren't being logical.
Yea race isn't simple...it is complex.I didn't say it was easy.Do you have empirical evidence to back up what you said(stuff I put in bold about traits and alleles)? There's not trait that determine race specifically.Like how their are dark skinned people/light skinned people,Black people with blue eyes, white people with big lips. You know not all women deals with those things. Some women can not have kids .also biodiversity-the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.<what does that have to do with this? Here is my evidence backing my claim about race being social..
But ultimately I wish we never had this concept of race within the human race. I think if we got rid of this"sub racial categorize system" we probably wouldn't be having some of these race related problems.

I just want to know why she did it? Did she have any political agenda and from Aim's post it looks like she does otherwise lying wouldn't be necessary.

So no conservatives are pissed about Rachel but not pissed about Jenner? Alright bud.

Conservatives see both cases as indications of psychological disorder, generally.

What conservatives are upset about is not so much the individual behavior of the people in question, but of the push to treat this kind of behavior as something that is 'normal' and 'to be celebrated.' They see books being sold on the shelves at scholastic book fairs to grade school children about transgenderism.

Children who have yet to discover masturbation can be filled with ideas about whether or not they are of a gender opposite of their physical *** and their parents can throw 'coming out' parties for their five year old declaring she's a boy.

That's what conservatives are upset about - the push to 'celebrate' mental disorder and to try to indoctrinate children into ideas they can't possibly have a concept of.

The fact that these individuals are doing something crazy is a given. There are always going to be crazy people and the media is always going to find them because crazy will get people to stop what they are doing and pay attention to the advertising space. Getting upset over the existence of crazy people is an exercise in futility.
