You people aren't getting it... Of course, for online gaming, a connection is always necessary, but what if the game is purely single player?

Imagine if the 360 had to be always connected. What if a technician from the cable company has to come over and do some maintenance, leaving my internet connection down for a few hours? An always-on console therefore wouldn't allow me to play a game like Skyrim if I wasn't connected to the internet. This is also a privacy issue; sometimes, I don't WANT to be online.

If this rumor is true, Microsoft is seriously setting itself up for financial suicide in the console market. Of course, those with stable, good internet connections will appreciate this console, but contrary to proper belief, not everyone's internet connection is reliable (hell, even here in the States we don't have it as good as other countries...)

if that happens, maybe you should go outside or do something else? how many times do you have someone come to your house to do some work that requires they shut off your internet? I haven't had that happen ever except when getting internet installed. If something as extremely insignificant as that will stop you from getting something, then im sorry that reason is absolute garbage.

Ok you cleared up that you played xbox. thats fine. Although i understand its your opinion to like PS more than xbox, stating earlier that it is a fact that PS > xbox is not fact. It is your opinion, even though it is wrong. They both have great qualities and great weaknesses. You also mentioned in a sarcastic manner(at least thats how i interpreted the text) that xbox " ''great and almost realistic'' graphics and games, etc. Better not go further. " which to me is HILARIOUS because although i admit that technically the hardware in the ps3 is SLIGHTLY better than the xbox, there is virtually no difference at all in graphics or "realism" than the two systems. They both have terrible textures from medium to up close, they both run at terrible frame rates (30 frames and lower) usually, they both cannot use directx11 textures and anything else dx11 does, i can go on.

lets use a scale of how good the hardware is in each system compared to another with a scale 1-100. xbox = 20 out of 100 in how good its hardware is. ps3 = 25 - 100. Thats how insignificant it is. Try playing bf3 single player on a ps3 or xbox then play on the PC and see the difference. Or crysis 2 or 3 for that matter. It would change your perception of what realism and graphical power is since you seem to only comprehend the graphical power of current consoles.

Now the new consoles will be just under par of PC hardware when they come out. but still won't keep up. Although at the time, it would be extremely hard to tell the difference.

Yeah its pathetic that the gaming will require a online connection. I might consider just investing in a gaming pc and start gaming on there. I think mods for skyrim alone could bring me to play pc.

Ah lordy, Mod Civ 5 and give Skyrim the "Naruto Anime Overhaul Mod".

Ok then, try thinking of it this way. An "always-on" console gives you very little sense of ownership. Let me explain. To have to require an internet connection makes your console dependent on that service, not allowing it to do the thing it was designed to do: PLAY GAMES, when there's no internet available.

Another thing; this makes your gaming experience dependent on the stability of Microsoft's servers. If you keep up with gaming news, you'll remember the SimCity fiasco with always-on DRM... what if Live Servers are hacked, similar to PSN those years ago? That would prove disastrous on a PR and financial level... (just ask Sony)

Now, I'm sure you and I have good internet connections, but there are still a lot of gamers around the world who live in non industrialized and technologically less advanced areas. Why would they need to pay for an internet connection (on top of Live's yearly subscription fee) just to play games? Very controlling of Microsoft if you ask me.

I find it HIGHLY offensive about the people saying that everyone has internet. Newsflash: THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE OR CANT AFFORD INTERNET.

The only way I can get online is through my school and going frequently to the library, therefore I cant play games online on my xbox because I cant afford internet myself.

I do agree that it's pretty unnecessary, but it's not something to complain about. People who only play singleplayer games should get Playstation anyway, it's always been better at that. Majority of the Xbox playerbase plays online games.



I have never met a person who has a game console but no internet, wifi is sort of a priority.

yes, usually high budget exclusive projects such as those, excluding gta, tend to really have nice visuals even with the mediocre hardware current consoles have. God of war looks great and fluid, metal gear and killzone have very nice visuals. Software has a great part on how the graphics look. there are games on a console that can look like total crap from a third or unknown party. Then there are games that look amazing from high budget exclusives.

Those exclusives use up every source the hardwares power. Like i hate most of xbox games graphics. I did like odyssey of the west graphics even though they were not THAT high budget, but they had awesome visuals. Another example for the xbox would be Gears of war 3. That game had amazing graphics for such a weak system. More games however, especially exclusives, tend to look a little better on the ps3. one of my favorite ps games that has great art and visuals would be shadow of the colossus. Graphically, god of war is amazing for ps3.

Thats much better. Though i still may not agree with some of your reasons, you gave a more in depth explanation of why you dislike it. I agree that games should not have to be forced to go online to play especially single player. I personally dont have a problem with it being online since i always am online.

Now for people that dont have internet; it would seem like common sense that if they cant obtain or afford internet, they shouldn't bother getting a high end console system or they shouldnt be able to afford one for that matter.

I completely agree with the second paragraph. Games that rely on the companies server to maintain itself sucks because what if that company goes to the ground. Your purchased item would be useless. Example: halo 2 servers going offline to focus on other things even though people liked to go back and play halo 2 online.
