the shigami academy was founded 2100 years ago.
Shunsui and Jushiro were the first to become captains from the academy. Unohana was the first ever Kenpachi and older than Jushiro and Shunsui. Considering how less time poeple like rukia and renji spent in the academy, i guess its safe to assume jushiro and ukitake took the same amount of time. DOesnt that mean they have been captains for more than 2000 years?

If so shouldnt they be loads stronger than the other ones?

We don't know how long rukia an renji were in side the academy do we?

And yes kyoraku an ukitake are stronger than your average captain..their shikai's probaly don't look so great but going off of what their shikai's do you can tell their bankai's will be bad ass.

Well Shunsui has already proven that he's one of the strongest Shinigami in the series, and that's while only using Shikai.

On the other hand we haven't seen much from Ukitake... But I guess we will at some point
