I saw some other threads here talking about Light and how they wish L lasted and it got me thinking.

This post here by Incendiary got me thinking about L
"Ok, somewhat unrelated question but still about Deathnote....

Why didn't neither Light nor L say anything like "what notebook is he talking about??" after Higuchi talked about forfeiting the notebook with Rem???

Wasn't that a key piece of evidence right there, why didn't anyone question what he said?

Also... is there anything L could have logically done after he realized Light had gained back his memories to avoid dying and prove Light is Kira?"

L knew, KNEW, and couldn't definitively prove Light was Kira, do you think he acknowledged finding someone smarter than him and bowed down to Light giving him the win. In other words do you think L let Light kill him as an acknowledgment? A lot of kids who watch DeathNote will say Kira is too good that's why he killed L blah blah blah those same people only watch DN at it's surface value and don;t see Kira was the villain of the story(but no need to get into that)

In summary: I believe L allowed himself to fall victim to Kira's traps what do you think.

Okay my mind is really clouded right now and I can't seem to think about anything but.....

I'm fairly certain that L's intention wasn't to get a heart attack.........
He wasn't someone that was obsessed with finding a rival as far as we have ever known.

I didn't say he was obsessed more like he found someone to succeed him so he stopped trying and gave in to his successor.(If that makes sense) Anyway it seemed like L knew from start to end and I like to believe L died knowing Light killed him he just knew he couldn't get any evidence to stick so he gave the w to Light.

spoilers for a reason

Yes L was working around trying to get Light to somehow use the deathnote , but he couldn't really figure out a way to do it..
So his main goal was to prove the 13DayRule to be a false one. The problem with the writer with that is , proving the rule doesn't exist does not mean Light is Kira. It only means the 13 day rule was fake , but it does not provide any sort of evidence that Light is actually Kira. That just means after finding out the rule is fake, they will continue to suspect Light as Kira.. Only suspecting him and not proving he's the actual serial killer.. meaning the investigation will continue to go on for longer. L did realize Light was Kira when he suffered the heart attack though, but it was too late.

on another note.. L's "defeat" could open a possibility for him to be "revived" because of the rules of the shinigami. Shinigami aren't supposed to "kill to protect" people , and if they do, they the shinigami itself will die. However,

here's the big twist

a shinigami killed two people to protect one person. The shinigami killed W before killing L. So the shinigami should've died after writing the first name down and killing, but instead the shinigami was still alive after killing W and was able to also kill L. The shinigami killed L for the sole reason for saving Misa. Before that, the shinigami killed W for the same exact reason. In other words, the shinigami known as Rem should've died after killing Watari , and not been able to also kill Lawliet afterwards, so L should've still been alive. Its up to the writers if they realize that and do something with that in the future. They could have the shinigami king make an exception after discovering what happened, and give L his life back.. (if possible).. since its fictional.. its possible.

Currently to me that doesn't make sense.

I doubt L wanted Light to be his successor.
Besides, doesn't L know about Whammy's House?

L was too smart. Jumping to conclusions that were illogical.

The way they thought was also hypocritical. Sometimes they stress the importance of thinking outside the box and thinking of abstract possibilities. Then they will refute or not even consider possibilities because it is needed for plot progression.

However this is understandable because the characters are only as smart as the writer who has the added advantage of foresight.

Even then most people are retarded with foresight so the writer did quite well to be slightly above average.

This is one of the reasons I didn't like Death Note that much. Sure the suspense, character progression etc was handled excellently it just that the writer tried to make the intellectual battles well above his own capability and failed magnificently.
