What's so surprising? Dont you know whats going on in Ukraine?
This could get interesting.
Russia - or, more properly, Putin - engaging in a westward expansion directly threatens one of my interests. It would be one thing if Russia were simply expanding its influence via market factors - but this is a direct military expansion in support of an increasingly tyrannical Russian administration.
Normally, I'm content to let Putin be Putin and let Russians take care of Russia. But I do have to say that I've enough personal interest at stake should Russia begin expanding westward that I will likely not remain neutral.
Just so happens that I've been working on taking up Serbian. A mercenary career in the Balkans could likely sate the wanderlust I've been feeling of late.
How much do said mercenaries get paid?
And would there possibly be a need for an expert in tactical questioning and psychological operations?
Dont remember who predicted it, but im saying just in case, be prepared for WWIII, its gonna happen in the next 20 or so years.
For what I have at stake? The only price I have is that the Balkans remain free of Russian totalitarianism. Maybe the IRS would consider it charity that I could write off on my W-2 or something.
I figured I could do more consulting on air defense grids and maintenance on tactically acquired Russian airframes. Possibly even try and serve as a liason for any NATO operations in the area - but that would be if I make some kind of name for myself worth paying attention to (arrogance on my part).
Which is probably a bit more dangerous of a game than I'd like to play - my allegiances to a particular individual are stronger than my allegiances to the governing body of this country (which is starting to look eerily close to The Republic under Palpatine). The bigger the name I make - the farther up on the list I move of people to send special forces after.
If the local up and coming warlords don't off me in the first place. Those regions are still somewhat new to the idea of limited governments - so governments tend to be one giant game of duck-duck-goose for who gets to be the totalitarian overlord.
So I'd probably spend most of my time helping to train partisans in what I know of the special operations side of things - small squad tactics and how to be a pain in the ass too small to deal with conventionally but too debilitating to ignore. Also try and pass on what I know of base construction and how to more effectively collect information on military targets - how to spot complacency and overconfidence, how to instill paranoia, how to maximize the demoralizing effect of strikes on garrison forces, etc.
If I go - I fully expect a return to the U.S. would include my detainment at the airport and a military tribunal for a welcoming party. Perhaps none of my actions would catch the ire of our political system - but I'm already a Christian-affiliating, Libertarian-leaning 'white' male... so the odds are not in my favor, there.
As far as tactical questioning and psy-ops - I'm sure there's some interrogation that can be done on captured people.
You wanna know how to kill enemy morale?
Always target the chow hall and always attack at night when the bulk of mother****ers are sleeping...or playing Madden. That shit always pissed me off.
You know seeing as I'm half Asian that might just be enough for them to try to pin me as a spy for NK. **** it. I'll just ride my clearance for six figures when they kick me out. All hail the Emperor.
