Puppet Technique Question

Hi all, just a question. I was wondering, when someone uses the puppet technique are the charkra strings actually visible? I would have thought yer because it usually shows them coming from the users finger tips but whenever they show the puppet they aren't visible? Does anyone have any ideas??
